patreon.com/thegunpenguin www.thegunpenguin.com for the worst t-shirt on the internet! Let's take a look at my favorite Smith and Wesson auto! #smithandwesson #smith1006 #10mm
A few years back my boss told me his friend wanted to sell a pistol for cheap and knew I was interested in guns. Imagine my disbelief when this man pulled out a S&W 1006… What a great shooter! I don’t think I could ever let it go.
Yes, we can ALWAYS take a moment to appreciate Michael Mann's love of guns and his cinematic genius. Fuuuuuck I'm gonna go fall asleep watching Heat again...
I knew that Michael Mann did Collateral and of course Heat, but turns out he also directed Public Enemies which also had some excellent gunfights. Mad respect for that guy
I never realized he directed Public Enemies till I watched it for the second time a few months ago. During the shootout in the woods I had it cranked up loud on my sound bar and sub an thought “Holy shit this loud as fuck… Kinda like Heat….” Immediately looked it up and was surprised, never noticed his name in the credits.
My first pistol was a 6906 that belonged to a sheriff from the county I grew up in on the Oregon coast . I want to collect one of each caliber in the o6" s the 4006 was kept by the CHP 10 yrs or longer than any other police force .
always loved the aesthetics of the 59 series S&W pistols. timeless classic and simple . wish i bought a 5906 a few years back when they were around $400
The Forgotten Weapons take on the Delta Elite was that people handloading extremely hot 10mm loads (as some 10mm fans are wont to do) or people installing lighter hammer springs would often experience cracked frames. The gun by itself was fine, it just didn't have much margin of error. Looks like Colt did reintroduce it though.
The world is not ready yet for the 3rd gen S&W. It will take another 30-40 years until they realize what they are missing out on. BTW, back when this was new, by a simple swap to a lighter recoil spring, shooting 40S&W was commonly done for cheaper shooting. On another note, its 45 counter part, the 4506, was switched to 45 super simply be changing the recoil and firing pin springs to heavier. No barrel swap, no nothing. This proves the overbuilt factor in them by a lot. Not many 45s could do that, if any ever. Great video friend
I bought mine new back in 98 and came with the same Hogue grips and immediately bought 2 more clips. worst thing that's happened is plastic baseplates finally started cracking in the clips that were almost always loade for 24 years. A small online ivestment in clip repair parts and I'll die before they fail agin. This gun is The Party Favor everytime we go out, this is a Bad Ass gun with probably 20,000 rounds through it and not one failure except a miscrimp issue on my reloads. I am so Glad I own this beautiful Beast! Thanks for the video!!!
Those FBI agents should have had a speedloader. They certainly existed yet didn't have them I don't think. Though a rifle vs pistol is quite the disadvantage. See Paul Harrell about this . The 1006 definitely needs a shoulder holster.
I own the 4506-1. I have carried mine now for several years. I had a custom holster made for it by Andrew's custom leather. To carry this gun you have to love this gun.
The ONLY FTF I ever had on my 1945 clunker 1911 when a club member reloaded my brass with solid lead bullets with crimping that dug straight into the lead, leaving NO ridge for the round to seat against. He blamed my old piece of course but we all knew that his casual attitude was the cause. That same attitude killed him when he went down to an old wreck with half full oxygen tanks, got himself tangled up and died when his O2 ran out.
There was a time... when I legitimately lived in a condo in Boca. Right on Mizner Blvd. Now I live in Kentucky. And own a bunch of dope guns. Including a 4506-1--the lazier, slower, shadier, slightly pimp-ier twin of the 1006. The thing is a fantastic shooter. Makes .45 a cream puff. I need to get a 1006, one of these days. Or maybe a 1026. Love your reviews. Love your delivery. Love your synthy music. You inspire me to make better content. Keep up the good work, mah man.
Enjoyed your video. I have never owned a 10mm, but I want one. And I'm a bit leary of a polimer 10mm, will they hold up over time? Or crack like a egg.
These are still available on gun auction sites like gunbroker, but these are in the 4 figures now. The closest newer equivalent would be the imported Italian Tanfoglio Witness, also similarly priced. The Tanfoglio has 15 round capacity. I have the S&W 39-2 and 4506-1. Both excellent classic pistols. I also have a Glock 20 Gen 3.
An absolute gem of a video as usual. You've gotta be one of the easiest guntubers to watch/listen to on the platform. Bravo my best mm bro, Bravo. 👏👏👏👏👏
This review was informative while also making me laugh lol looking at picking up a 1006 and stumbled upon your video, you sir have gained a subscriber, now wheres my Hawaiian button down shirt and aviators, I have a coke king to bust with my 1006 🤣
Kinda a random question, but have you ever shot a Walther P88? I have a fascination with them that I think stems from loving the P99, PPQ, and PDP F (Settled on a VP9 litterally a week before the PDP F came out as my self-defense sidearm, but now my manlet hands yearn for the PDP F after holding one. Being a student just can't afford another 650 dollar gun tho.) but never having even seen a P88 in the wild. There's not much out there for reviews and videos about them either. Must not have sold really well in the US.
I love the P88. It was always one of my grail guns. I lucked into finding a P88C at my local gun shop, brand new in box. I've got a review on it, if you're interested: czcams.com/video/-5X9dIpmylA/video.html It's unbelievably well made and incredibly accurate. Mine has been 100% reliable.
+1 for the 1006: the chamber is supported on factory barrels And you can deactivate your mag safety. The spring is under the rear sight. You find some reviews on CZcams
It was to big and to much recoil for people with smaller hands. The FBI asked S&W if they could lighten the load/recoil. S&W did then realized that the cartridge didn't need to be so long either. Thus .40 S&W was born.
I like 10mm, own both a G20 and G29, and handload my own as I feel most commercial 10mm is too weaksauce for my taste. However, I don't know why there are so many guys out there who treat the 10mm as if it's some howitzer capable of vaporizing bears... like, real 10mm is on par with a good .357 Magnum. Other revolver magnum cartridges only go /up/ from there; rifles and shotguns are way more powerful still. 10mm is powerful, but let's keep it in perspective... it's still just a pistol cartridge.
Fast forward to the 2010s, and FBI now is recruiting a larger percentage of women who were having difficulty qualifying with the .40 S&W. As a result, FBI commissioned a 'study' to justify re-adopting the 9mm because, "It's almost as good as the .40 S&W, right?" 🙄
You are a great storyteller and a wealth of information. I agree with a lot of what you are saying. You are a little hard on police in my opinion, however I will concede that the problems you highlight with police ie their attitude, lack of sufficient training and poor leadership in the upper echelon have some merit. Although I vehemently disagree at all cops want to go out and shoot people or even most cops. There are millions and millions of police interactions with the public each year yet there are very few police shootings in relation to all those interactions. Therefore I submit that most police do not want to shoot people.
Just watched your video about being a liberal gun owner. Very well said. Thanks. Me too. I commented to it, not realizing at the time that it was 4 years old. Anyhow, thanks. I won't comment more on it here and ruin this one. Best to you... thanks.
@@thegunpenguin grew up on my dads python.. well that sounded awful. Eventually i got a rhino 5” in 357. Love the caliber. Sold the rhino tho, heard they have crazy timing issues.

Whoa! What a great find! Very nice!

He has such a specific style. It's really cool. And I like that he makes relatively few movies, of a higher quality.
It’s not the length, it’s the girth that’s so impressive
I agree.
Just bought my first pistol. I picked up an early model S&W 4506. It's so fucking beautiful.
Great find!

That makes sense. It's not crazy overbuilt like the 1006 is.

Love the controls, just like the 92a1. Wouldn't want that slide release any other way. Great vid as always, and the intro/outro music was top-shelf.
First handgun was a police trade in 4006, felt like I was holding a 2x4. But was built like a tank, if I didn't get stolen I would of kept it forever.
What iwb holsters do you recommend for the Smith and Wesson 1006?
I love this gun, Been looking for one awhile. Any suggestions?
Every vid ive watched on these call them "so 80s" but Wikipedia has these listed as being produced 1990-95.

The S&W "Silver Boi" series of guns from the 80's are such sexy guns. Like beautiful, buff, horses.

Love my 1006, had it since the early 90's
I have a S&W 39-2. Still a fantastic shooting gun
Great job - good review, thanks
Another season or two of Miami Vice, and Crockett would have been back to the 10mm. These are the thoughts of a kid gun nerd from the 80s.

I'd say the most handsome 10mm built and most reliable at the time to date. Only exception in terms of handsome, the Bren 10. True collectors piece.
Would love to see a review on IWI's Masada. Those suckers have been going for $450, curious to see how they compare with a Glock at that price point.
