I picked one up at a gunshow for about $500 if I recall in 2007. It was a cool gun, but since 10mm was hard to find and since DA/SA wasn't "cool" back then, I wound up trading it in on something else. I kinda wish I still had it.
those 3rd gen Smiths were big chunks of metal, compared to todays guns. But they are well made guns. I saw many 4506, 5906 & 1006 riding in police holsters in the 1990's. Nice gun!
Very nice! Always wanted a 1066, the "commander" version of the 1006. But these 10mm 3rd gens command a high value in any model. I enjoy my 45 acp versions which are same size pistols as the 10mm, 4566 Tactical and a 4516. The most being my 4516, which I'm not sure if S&W made an "officer" sized version in 10mm.
When I lived in Alaska, there were lots of folks buying these for bear defense. They'd load them up with 180gr flat nosed bullets. I had the Delta Elite at the time and maybe a Glock 20 for a little while. Didn't like either of them. Ended up using my Super Blackhawk while fishing in a vertical shoulder holster. 300gr hardcast bullets were going about 1100 fps. I never felt like I needed more capacity or a bigger gun.
Just by the nature of the design, revolvers are lot better suited to high power cartridges than automatics. 10mm or 45 Super are just about the top end that you can put in an auto pistol before you end up with something so big and clunky that it`s difficult to use like a Desert Eagle. But revolvers handle big rounds just fine.
Hey Shep! In your opinion what are some of the more reliable 10mm pistols out there? I considered getting a S&W M&P 2.0 4” barrel but have heard that a lot of 10mm polymer pistols are known to have more issues and not be as reliable. Maybe I need to get a steel frame Delta Elite or the 1006 to have a reliable 10mm.. just wanted to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
With a few exceptions, it`s more about the ammo than anything else as far as being reliable. Factory 10mm ammo might be anywhere from 450 foot pounds of muzzle energy on up 750 foot pounds. Most are around 550-600. If you don`t use the same ammo all the time, you might need more than one recoil spring so you can change them out, which can be a pain. Too heavy of a spring and lighter loads won`t always cycle. Too light and the gun will beat itself to death. Also keep in mind that if you go with one of the Glock pistols in 10mm, they don`t like lead bullets.
@@AMF96 I mostly use my own reloads. Much cheaper. Which is one of the reasons I`m not a big fan of Glock pistols. I like to load with hard cast lead bullets in 10mm because they are cheaper than jacketed. But the rifling they use in Glock barrels is not lead friendly. It works great for jacketed bullets, but it can foul really badly with lead bullets, even hard cast ones. And once you get lead fouling down in the rifling it takes a lot of work to clean it out.

I never sell or trade anymore. Always end up regretting it.
That's why i kept mine got it 3years ago

That is very awesome, sleek looking gun.
Thanks
i love my 1006 smith and Wesson 10mm had it for 3years now got to clean it again its in the safe
You should do a video with it sometime.
@1957Shep I don't have time I'm always working don't got time to go to the firing range 😤 😒
I used to own one of those but with a Barstow barrel. Loved it!
They are good pistols.
If I’m not mistaken, that rear sight is made by Millett. I love 3rd Gen S&W pistols.
Yes. It was a fixed sight model new. But it shot kind of low, so I had an adjustable sight put on it.

They were only made a few years. And most of them are kind of rare. Not many made. The only ones made in fairly large numbers were the 1006 and 1076.
Beautiful gun.
Thanks

Those third generation smiths are nice , and that one looks great . The rear sight looks different from some others ive seen
It was a fixed sight model when I bought it new, but it shot low to point of aim. So I had an adjustable sight installed on it.
Magazine's are 250.00 a piece. Awesome 10mm.
Prices for magazines always go up after a gun is discontinued.
😁☕👍 Nice round and gun
Thanks
Just picked up one a week ago !!!!😊
Hope you enjoy it!
what a hunk
It`s a little heavier than a 1911 pistol, but not much.
When both are loaded to maximum pressure, what’s more powerful. 357 Magnum or 10MM?
With max loads, they are probably about the same. But most ammo, in either caliber, is not loaded nearly that hot.
10mm & S&W what's not to like ...
Thanks

@@1957Shep Good to know. Thanks!
@@1957Shep Also what factory 10mm loads would you recommend running? Or do you use mostly reloads?

@@1957Shep Good to know. What bullets do you like to reload with? And what power level do you like to load them to?
Shep what’s your favorite 10mm auto pistol?
Probably the Colt Delta Elite.
What sights do you have on yours?
Originally had fixed sights, but it didn`t shoot to point of aim. So i had the slide milled for a Bo-Mar adjustable rear sight.
@@1957Shep ok Thanks
The 1006 is a Tank, over built to Russian Specks!
They are good pistols.
