- This is the very rare "Couple six packs of STROH's!" recording. I'm not sure where in Michigan this is recorded... if you know, please give a shout out. This was released on a limited compilation record with other bands of the day in a K-tel like format. I'm not sure if it was only offered for radio programming but it did have moderate regional airwave play. This particular version is special because Bob mentions Stroh's beer and the "southern Michigan moon." In that light, I decided to make this video a tribute to Detroit and Detroit Rock n Roll... as Bob was so proud to call home and be a part of. I can only hope it brings back many memories. A special thanks to WRIF, Detroit Rockers and especially to Bob Seger! Thank you, Bob! I couldn't bare to imagine life growing up without you!
Audio quality is sub-par as it was recorded from a record that was obviously often played. I tried to clean up the clicks and pops from the scratches as much as possible.

I've said before...Seger is the greatest American songwriter ever. Not to mention he always has the best live shows. A true American ICON!
Brought a tear to my eye. Love Bob and my Michigan!
Absolutely his most underrated song!! Thanks for this!
This has always been one of my favorite Seger songs... He played it at the two shows I saw in 1978.
I really appreciate your love and support towards my aspirations, how long have you been my fan?
Fucking MAD PROPS to whomever put this together. Being from Toledo, we heard this many a times on WIOT, WRIF, WEELZ, WABX, W4 or some jukebox in a dive bar while drinking a Stroh's. PLUS the video showed all the places I use to frequent, sometimes 3 nights a week. Living 50 miles South of Detroit had it's percs. Thanks
And the best part of this is that I get to live here in Michigan!!!!!!!
I was there when it was recorded!!! It was at Cobo!!! He is THE BEST live act ever!
I saw Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band in Milwaukee, WI. They were great. Bob Seger is a great performer, and musical artist.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit you have to love this version of the song!!
Thank You Detroit for having our boy's back while the rest of the world was catching up to how incredible he is and always has been. Been a fan since 75...
Roseville Eastside Gratiot Ave. Best side. Back in the day.
Man, this one reminds me of my first date in 1981, 17 years old. Had 2 quarts of 32 oz Stroh's (75 cents a bottle) on that early summer night, she drove us to a spot in the woods off the road that I am sure she had been to many times before and I had my first kiss, etc. The moon was bright that night and this precious memory is captured in this song. That photo of Harpos really hits home as well. Saw many great concerts there in the early to mid 80s, such good times, great memories.
Oh I definitely love this version!!!!!!! I'm also from Detroit ( around Evergreen Rd), I always
Say a couple of 6 packs of Stroh's and a lot of pot!!!!!!! Lol!!!!!!
@@paulinerothstein8982 Actually from Westland/Garden City area but loved hangin out with my boys downtown. Detroit was so awesome back in the day.
Bob Seger. The best rock and roller EVER!!!!
OMG........Never delete this one. So close to my heart ..summer of 1981
The best version of this song.
This one hits so close to home. Was no longer a virgin after that warm summer night in May 1981`. She drove my car deep into these woods and I had a few 32 oz bottles of Strohs. What a memory, and Bob Seeger captures it almost to a tee. Would love to see this released on a CD along with 'closing of the train stations', another song from what I remember reminds me of when a large local steel plant closed.
It's on the re- released Nine Tonight from about 5 years ago.
Love the crackling from the stylus. Vinyl rules!!
This was recorded at the Cobo Hall, released on the B side of the single Trying To Live My Life Without You. I did have the single and it was the best 99 cents I have ever spent. Thank You for posting this and for the question, more than happy to answer this one........
I really appreciate your love and support towards my aspirations, how long have you been my fan?
That was the first record I ever got. Santa Claus brought it to me with a Fisher Price record player. One of the best memories ever.
Great video to match my favorite song of Bob’s. Great city, great people, great memories. Don’t ever talk shit about Detroit, Bob Seger, Michigan, or anything related to greatest state in the union, or you’ll find out about Detroit, Michigan soul. On the other hand, if you need help, were the kind of people that’ll give you the shirts off our backs. That’s it....nothing more, nothing less!
Thank you Bob for singing my life! We love ya!
.......Fuckin sing it Bob
the best song of so many great songs by the LEGEND bob seger ~~
Amazing, audio, best I heard in years. Bob Seger needs to release a live album with songs as these!!
Cheers! Canada rocks with Bob
I'd forgotten about DREAD cards...I carried one for years, even after I moved away. The WRIF and Art...WLLZ...good times!
thank you Bob
Bob Seger is a staple for Michigan -- what a great version with the "Stroh's" reference -- thank you for posting this ...
Cobo Hall now called Joe Lewis Arena in downtown Detroit. You should have seen him when he played clubs and smaller halls. You could only buy Strohs east of the rockies and Coors west of the rockies at that time. That's when we could take our coolers to concerts and actually enjoy a "lawn" seat. Between him and Ted Nugent, it was like living in the center of the rock and roll universe. His songs do revolve around Detroit life and her streets. They are actual places & the songs are real.
This video makes me Michigan in the summer more than anything. Well done!
Wow, talk about memory lane. Makes me think about tons of concerts in the 70-80s at Pine Knob, Cobo ,Royal Oak Music Theatre, etc. We truly didn’t know what we had then. You could bring your own cooler in to Pine Knob (no glass). Great times in a more compassionate world. Sorry for the melancholy reflection.
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I'll take every Bob Seger I can find!!!!
Thanks so much for posting this. I still have the 45 of this kicking around in my
collection somewhere. Always my favorite version.
Bob Seger sold out six shows in a row in June 1981 before selling out three more in July at Pine Knob. I was at this concert when it was recorded at Cobo Hall. The song Fire Down Below from Nine Tonight was recorded at the same concert as this one. My favourite Seger live song behind Let it Rock.
Gotta LOVE ❤️ IT .
Seger at his best, best live song ever
Thanks for the info, mab5805! Judging by all the clicks and pops from the scratches on this particular recording, stands to reason that it was indeed recorded from a worn old 45.
Awesome I'd forgotten about this song....I used to cruise around to this!
Recently went to Detriot (for the first)for a trip from Kitchener. Been a Seger Fan since the Live Bullet years. Really appreciate the history of area.Primarily Woodward Avenue and the Detriot Zoo, Thanks for the Post .Robert
Great vid and awesome song. Born and raised in the D and Bob has always been a favorite. Love the pic of the old Harpos sign, dam those were good times....
❤ the man call original❤
Stranger in Town album opened my eyes to Bob Seger. Saw him at Boston Garden in 1980 and then later at Worcester Centrum. Always put on an amazing show. Brave Strangers never got the air play it deserved…a great follow up to Night Moves!
Tiger Stadium with the lights on, as Ernie Harwell said " that's baseball"
Fuck Yeah...Bob Seger rules!!! I'm originally from Detroit and now livin in Phoenix this brings back soooo many memeories...thanks for putting this up bro

This is sooooo good. One of my favorite Seger songs anyway, but I love this version better. Bob sounds so sexy when he says "Darlin my hand was a shakin" This is awesome. Thank you so much :)

Lived in Detroit in 90 and 91 !! Good times💝💝😁😁
I really appreciate your love and support towards my aspirations, how long have you been my fan?
It's so interesting how the folks behind the Eminem "Imported from Detroit" ad actually used so much of the same Detroit imagery you did on this video. GREAT work.
This was released as the B-side on the 45 rpm of Tryin' to Live my Life Without You. I was at the concert where and when this was recorded. Truly a memorable night. I am a Bob Seger fan for life. Baby for Arthur P of WRIF.
Scott Durward
Was this recorded at Cobo? What year? WRIF used to play this version all the time and now you never hear it. He puts on a great live show!

To the CLUELESS PEOPLE HERE. This was Recorded In Detroit, Why do you think that everything was Michigan related. WAKE UP PEOPLE.
@LakesideRocker66 Well done Lakeside. I live in Texas now, and this makes me miss Michigan (only in the summer) more than anything but my family. You captured the flavor and history of Detroit life and rock and roll very well. Did you ever see him at the IMA Auditorium in Flint? A great old venue that is no longer with us.
Really nice slide show!!!!
Thanks you for your kind words and thank you for choosing my music how long have you been listening to my music

Thanks for your comments and love towards me, hope you won’t stop someday?
Start with We've Got Tonight and follow with this....
OK... looks like I need to go buy my first CD in years! Love this version. I've heard it before years and years ago. I want to think it was on a bar jukebox. If it was a B side that would make sense. Thanks for the heads up! :-)
Side B of Trying to Live My Life Without You...sorry you are getting the answer five years later lol...
Well... thanks! JMO but this is the better song. I know it got played a lot more...
It was on the original vinyl Double Live Album...Nine Tonight...DREAD CARDS!!
@22Vicci
Cobo Hall is not called Joe Louis Arena. they are different buildings. They're both there.
It was Pine Knob now known as DTE
This on the reissue of the NINE TONIGHT album.
@22Vicci You must be from the 'burbs.. Cobo Hall and Joe Louis are two different buildings...actual places !
Being from detroit myself, born in 98 but thanks to my dad (born in 57 in michigan himself and saw seger MANY times) im proud to say because of him, i grew up listening to bob seger
Ha! I still have my DREAD card after all these years :)
Thanks you for your kind words and thank you for choosing my music how long have you been listening to my music
Hahahaha Yes... The ol' DREAD Cards. I kinda feel bad about the DREAD cards because all these years later, I kinda dig on certain disco and Motown. Detroit Rockers... we really started the anti-disco movement that killed it. Oh well... it was gettin' outta HAND MAN! LOL
Looking back. some of it was OK. All I thought was how the media is hyping this 'pussy' music, no guitars, no kicking drums. I was enraged that classic rock was being replaced by this. Give me Zep, Aerosmith, the WHO, etc but not disco. It was like warfare to me, we got stoned in the late 70s and raided the local disco club and beat the shit out of a few disco boys in the downriver area. To be young again....
WE'VE GOT TONIGHT on the NINE TONIGHT album was recorded that same night.
seems to me they're playing this faster than the original recording
July, 1967 Driving home after, 4 years in The Coast Guard, across Ambassador bridge,
right down West Jefferson Ave, through the Riots. God helped us all.
Great pictures:
Al Kaline, Alex Karras, Gordie Howe, GM, Woodward Ave, Tiger Stadium.
Great memories, Great Video!
you can get this on bobs transmission 3cd
Probably recorded at the former Pine Knob Amphitheater , which has been renamed DTE Energy Amphitheater....
tim sears Will always be PINE KNOB!!!!!
Could NOT agree more Sheri Peters....
How can I get this song on my iPod??
Thanks for your comments and love towards me, hope you won’t stop someday?
Why is this not allowed in the USA?
For some reason I want to think I heard this on juke boxes back in the '80s?
It was the b side of the single Trying to Live My Life Without You, released before it went on the Album. Likely why you heard it as the latter was played all of the time.
thanks. if i wasnt in LA i might be homesick.
still, great to hear this and see the shots of detoilet er, detroit
Thanks you for your kind words and thank you for choosing my music how long have you been listening to my music
