This isn't Judy it's Doug and i have to say I'm 65yrs old and Bob has been my idle i love his music. It touches your soul. Thanks Bob for all awesome tunes. You could always put me in a good place.

I just listened to this song for the first time tonight like 6times,i just turned 58 my heart breaks for what i never found, not for lack of opportunity just never happened. But i love thinking it can happen to you
Story of my life. When I first heard this song well over 25 years ago now, I knew this song was written about someone like me =) I used to cry and cry when I heard it but not anymore. It's a good thing to gather courage enough to fly away.
This is the first time that I have heard this version. It’s good too. I’ve been a fan of the other one for quite a while and a fan of his for almost my whole life. He’s the best !
The added lines about what attracted her to him in the first place, really help paint the whole picture . Fantastic song and what a treasure finding this version.
I have always loved this song... Since it first came out... Captures what so many have felt at one time or other. Should have been a super mega hit with awards galore... It's that good! I love this version even more. Love it!
@@mary.gcarpenter1490 my dear miss Carpenter if you only ask for these lyrics I'm sure you would have a very pleasant and rewarding read ! Bob Seger will get all the accolades and grammys and may even make the rock n roll hall of shame after his time with us is over . I kindly only used caps as they where deserved and the word shame instead of fame out of respect for all who have been snubbed , looked over or just plain ignorance . BOB SEGER is an institution within itself and he has a catalog of music , poetry , and even a few short stories that should be required reading in our schools if they are even called that anymore . With a simple request on BOB SEGER'S page you would get a print out of lyrics if not a hand written letter and if that is not available please simply request them I will see you get them , now thank you kind ladies and ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY !!!
LIKE ALL HIS OTHER SONGS, JUST GREAT. HE IS TELLING A STORY WITH THIS ONE. YOU REALLY HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE WORDS. THE DRUMS AND BACK GROUND MUSIC IS DROWNING OUT HIS VOICE THOUGH. STILL I LOVE IT.
That hammond is going to town !!! I glad Bob went with Craig's piano instead. I don't understand why this wasn't a hit other than it's not radio friendly. What a beautiful heart felt song.
I also have always thought that this would have been a big hit, but I think the length of it kept it from getting airplay. As you said, not radio friendly. Unfortunately.
I can hear the difference with the LP version and this one. This song is wonderful. The story is sad and real. You can just picture it. I love this. But yeah, it was never a hit. Another NON HIt that I loved is Ship of Fools. I found that several years ago on CZcams and it has become a favorite also.
What a neat find! I was searching for a version of this to listen to while I worked on a short story. I'd never heard the original lyrics, and they add a great depth to the song.
I have heard there is actually a true 20 minute version of this song... now if I could have 20 minutes with one of the top three writers ever in music ,...I’d want Bob to play that version !!!
Agree! And just out of curiosity, who are your other two?? Dylan and the boss? I know often those names are put in experts categories when talking great songwriters... I love Springsteen and Seegs, those are my two faves, along with Elton. But obviously Elton doesn’t write his stuff.
@@doreno189 Actually I gravitate to Bruce and Bob as 1 and 2 ...though it tends to fluctuate as who is number 1 ... Bob never backs down and is always evolving , and has a most endearing record s of songs ... Bruce too ... but there’s so much to say for both . Bob , because I am Detroit born and was home for most of my life . He has it made as always number three ..but there’s times only His song will work for me ! I guess they all can share number 1 at any given time .
It's quite interesting to listen to this. My friend Gary Mallaber played drums on this song. The programmed drum sound would lead me to believe this is the demo Gary was given to learn before recording his drum part. This is very cool.
Only just found this song last night. Listened a few times, a lot of it I can't make out because the organ overtakes the words. Sounds like it woulda been a great song though !

They were really young when they got married so she still had plenty of time after the kids left home to do something for herself. Just 20 yrs had gone by. That would make her only about 35???? Right!
❤Don't get the ending? " She stares out the window and she'll look at his picture but not at the ring, she never looks at the ring".??????not at the ring.
Mary, the ring is what keeps her tied to her regret. Without the ring, she likely would have fulfilled her own dreams and not those of her husband. She simply can't look at it. Great song, so sad
@@garykomusi8788 Thanks Gary. I'm just now reading your comment you made eight months ago. Really sorry . Ridiculous right. Never noticed it before. Love the song.As much as they loved each other it's sad she had regrets in the end. And thanks for the explanation, it helped. I Liked the verse that wasn't in the song on the album, but the music was a little loud it was hard to hear the words. Thanks again. Sorry it took eight months to acknowledge your comment.

There are a lot of us that found the courage enough to fly away ! I felt he was singing to me and I gave the ring away!
I’m slow- so here’s my question- does she actually ever leave? In the current version she never does. Love this song
Yes. I flew away decades ago.
Married at 17, left 22 years later..never looked at the ring.

Melody Fisher! I couldn't understand all the words of the original verse, the music was too loud. Did you????
Yes...I always turn it up because I love this song so much...just hits me in the heart. Bittersweet story...

Bob is one of the greats but does not receive the recognition.
The best music or all times Bob The ring Thank you Bob For that great song..
Classic song from one of the best teller's of how life is with his songs
The whole combo of lyrics, passionate vocals and amazing players make this so amazing.
I have every song Bob ever recorded and this is one of my top 5.

Lovely song that my Mom and Dad would love to hear if they were alive on this earth together

I like this but the music is so loud I can barely hear the lyrics!
Debbie Owens - sounds great on headphones. I hear both music and vocals very clearly with just my ear buds.
