- This is a tutorial for the feature updated accompanying the 1.6 no step back update to the HOI4 mod Millennium Dawn. This tutorial covers the missile system, economic update, and satellite systems. This mod is getting an absolutely fantastic update so make sure to check it out! @@DarkSnake49542 my laptop is a really bad one and it already lags on vanilla hoi4 but if you use debug_smooth and before starting a game in milleniun dawn you go in the game settings(above the difficulty bar) and disable micronations then the mod will run a LOT better.
@@icantmeme4378 OK, I tend to make 1 country annex all South America and 1 all Africa (maybe some focus might not work because of it but less lag and crash on old MD)

Its intersting, but learning to play Millenium Dawn looks so intimidating
-Russia performs exactly like new player unfamiliar both with NSB(logistics) and with new mod features(satellites watching you 24/7).
Hopefully, iron curtain mod will implement the satellites /space war the same way as MD! (since space still got no real use except some bonus, and the race doesn't exist - and would only for multi-player as AI got too many to research to focus on space)
(same as gdp building, AI has a hard time to get ahead (like focus on all 3 cold war infrastructure before mass civilians, energy, develop every tile to modern to have more buildings slots) player is ahead of AI in theory - when you don't pick a small country of course)
Thank you for all your videos theyre always super helpful! One question though on missiles,..how do you launch SLBM's and ALCBM's? I cannot do it from provinces and cant see how to do it from subs and planes. thanks
SLBM’s are launched from subs. You need to have the tech and position subs next to an owned tile. Then there will be an option to launch just like icbms. Same for planes, they need to be able to be within reach

@@diegomoreno4950 For some reason you have to set the salvo to 0, it won't give you a bomb animation and doesn't do any damage to infrastructure but does do radiation damage. Guess sub and plane missile systems don't work. Hope they patch it.

I'm thinking of making one after muddling through it, but you have a community and the game MODs link to you :)
I can appreciate they bent over backwards to squeeze so much out of the engine, without access to change the binary, to get things like the Satellite screen. Very creative usage of the tools they have!
However it is clunky and at times unintuitive, with help dialogues not providing answers.
I know they would have absolutely remedied those things if they had access to program the base game and amend that stuff easily. Also appreciate you've had beta access to test, which makes you used to features (also likely included in design discussions?). Also doing an overview of the whole update, there is a lot to cover so not a negative view to you or the MOD team (good work all btw!).
But I think a dedicated very detailed look into all missile types, scenarios to use, issues, warheads and effectiveness, how to use all missiles types (so air / icbm / ship vehicle / anti satellite etc).
The various nuke doctrines, how they trigger and what the implications of the choices are. What you need to get access to xyz.
What the actual impact of these new shiny toys is in-game!

One of the things I haven't been able to figure out about the new system is what do the ABM and SAM missiles do on fleet defense when set to defend against Balistic and Intermediate missiles. As far as I know there is no way to target ships with Balistic or cruise missiles so is their any point to adding them or is it just a waste of missiles? Also I'm pretty sure the number of SAM missiles your fleet needs is directly related to the number of Air missile launchers you have on your ships, but I'm not as clear on whether they actually use the missiles or just need them for the full bonus and if the other ship missile systems (anti ship and anti land) use them since I don't see how they could use any other type of missile since you can't assign any others to your fleet.
@@patrickhenry1249 did the missiles actually get used in combat? Or did you just need them to complete the ship requirements? Im trying to figure out if you need to keep replenishing the SAM stockpile in order to sustain the top bonus.

Really appreciate the effort that's gone into this. But I still find the whole missile system very confusing as it's not intuitive. Also does the AI even understand and use the new missile system?

Are you able to target ships with missiles or is that not implemented? that's like the most useful missile target in my opinion
Hello, I followed the tutorial exactly and your video as well but I cannot select the two icons under nuclear production, I have the civ factories and the research and the reactor, I have also have the secret nuclear program. They are not highlighted and I am not able to change the ratios. Am I missing something?

the thing with the EU to form the united states off Europe, when the voting starts and its accepted but you didn't accept you still get annexed. could it be cancelled that you leave neater then loosing your progress and start over from 2000 . also like to see more focuses on adding factory's as minor country's. Or a focus that add construction speed +300% for a year or 2.

Left click on territory of the country you want to invest it and it shows you what buildings you can build in the state you have chosen
Click on another countries tile/province and a menu will pop up for investments. You need to have enough in your treasury to do so

Bit off topic, but have you considered a Cold War Iron Curtain tutorial series? I imagine it might fit a similar niche compared to Millennium Dawn? Though I've been unable to invest time into it thus far.

So here's a question. I built SAM sites and SAMs because I lacked the resources to make a big air force for air defence then went to war, none of my SAMs fired despite me having plenty and setting them to auto deploy. Do SAMs actually target aircraft or just missiles?

How useful re rockets? Are they worth using? I'd imagine they are good if you are running low on manpower, or if the frontlines are heavily saturated with troops and close air support just isn't enough.

So can you launch 30.mini satellite per rocket launch for a constellation? (if you play Iran for example and have a clear lack of satellite for intelligence, military, communication and GPS and. Need. To get to speed fast)
Ah okay so for the missle system they will not fire if you are an intervention force? Reason being I was playing as Russia and intervening in some Congo conflict and I wanted to test some ICBMs but the reports were always empty as if they didnt fire. Makes sense. What kind of peacekeeping force Fry's the country with ICBMs lol. So only direct war with another nation allows these to launch yes? And they will always have a filled out report if failed or successful? Just asking cause my reports were always empty lol

Is sea launched cruise missiles any different? I havent been able to figure out how to select a fleet or a sea they are operating in as a launch point.
Position them off the coast of a tile with missile silos to launch them. They arnt better. More versatility will be added in the future

All equipment has a cost, a big navy is especially killer

What about air launched and sea launched missiles? How do you select the starting location if they’re always moving?
You still have to start from a land province, I.e move the sub close to enemy shore launch from their territory to their territory.
So are they going to make the end goal (mars colony/moon colony) and asteroid mining better mechanically!

Could you please tell more about the "Strike Limit" mechanics? It appears to limit one's ability to use nuclear strikes, even as a first strike.

Great stuff! How do you add satellites to military / civilian use? I launched a couple of GNSS Satelleits into orbit but cannot upgrade my GNSS system to a higher level.
You cant make them do one or the other, they are able to do both. You need more sattellites of a higher level to go up levels

How do building slots work now? Do they still increase with gdp/c, or will it always stay the same?

I love the system but I noticed that even big nukes do nearly no damage to enemy divisions. And buildings and infrastructure just repairs for free anyway quite fast. Do you have any idea on how to use the nukes to destroy enemy forces?
It does a ton of damage to them, but wont ever completely destroy them. Pushing nuked divisions right after will break them
@@Hammurabae Thanks for your answer, but I dropped like 10 plus 100kt nukes on the frontline with south korea and it did basically nothing. Even the direct hits were like 5 percent org/strength damage. I even have an Video of that preserved. Are you sure about the damage?

Sadly not, you will need to pause and redo orders
Do i rly need to be at war with a country to fire ballistic missiles? Or lets say i send an interventionforce to support one side of a civil war, can i use ballistic missiles against targets even tho im not officially at war with them?
Nope, being at war is a precondition needed currently, it may change in the future.
Sorry if I missed it but how do you use actual attack submarines launching nukes?
Got it already. If someone else wonders you just need to park your slbm-cabable submarines next to a coastal area as a launch point.
Could someone help me with how many satellites I need? Try as I might I can't figure this out. For Comsats I have 16 in orbit for example but when the US revokes my acces (which they do every 5 minutes) the buff I get from it goes to zero which I assume means my satellites aren't doing anything or I don't have enough of them. I have to say I don't mind games overloading with information but the Space UI in general is extremely cryptic to me.
Ok so even when I only have the doctrine "First strike" Which from the name allows for first strike and has a strike limit of "None" = 0, I still can't fire a nuke, it says that the strike limit for the country I want to strike is "0" (I try to nuke small countries in the example) how am I supposed to get around that?

You have to research the tech, and produce them in the missile production tab before being able to launch

Could anyone explain me how to fire Air launched missiles and ship launched missiles? I only figured how to combine missiles for ground and submarine launched missiles
Similar problem, any time I select a sub or ship launches missile it makes me use say Murmansk as the launch point and doesn't then have the range to reach any US cities. That's even though I put subs camping off both coasts

I don't get any feedback on missiles hitting targets, i sent a few to forces of a country that doesn't have SAM and i didn't see any damage done to units really.

For some reason the nav satellites network can't be upgraded for me, even though I got more higher-level satellites in orbit than needed. Any idea why?
They might not be advanced enough. Lots of lower tech ones wont allow for upgrades, they need to be the more advanced ones as well

Are you able to do nuclear tests on your own territory? I had all the needed doctrines and stuff but when i go to launch the nuke it tells me that I have to be at war with myself and that my strike limit needs to be higher than 0, it works fine when shooting at countries I'm at war with but tests aren't working.
Have you found out how to fix it yet? im having the same problem. really annoying

If you are wanting to test nukes and whatnot... Not one for Ironman, but there is an option in the game rules before you start to have "cheat decisions".
...Once the game has started, you can scroll down after clicking the decisions tab and there should be a cheat section to add missiles and what not. This not only has options for all satellites, nuke warheads, missiles etc but also to complete max missile etc related tech.
Click tild key and type research_on_icon_click then enter And tild key again.
If you go into research now you can click on any research option to auto complete it (Strat Bombers, all new missile options, the ship tab for testing!).
Open the cheat window tild or w.e the key is below your ESC key is.
To get army / navy / air experience at the top of the screen (not for individual units). Type: xp 1000 with 1000 being the max, this should ensure you put whatever missile mods on your various ships to test.
Next cheat command: Instantconstruction
All one word, this allows you to build w.e building (although railways seem exempt). So you can plop down your SAM sites to test, anti missile, ICBM silos etc.
Also, if you wait until 24:00 ticks over to 01:00 ingame, the instantconstruction command makes any ships that are set to be built under production (just one, if you have 10 destroyers in one slot for example), so you can build ships fast to test.
Cheat / test window again: allowdiplo
This means you can send w.e diplomatic request such as a declaration of war.
Cheat / test window again: pp 2000
This adds 2000 political points, or w.e number you add. Again for declarations of war.
Cheat window: fow
Removes fog of war, so you can see the carnage.
Ah, also for strategic bombers (obviously unlock them via research. Choosing 100 quantity for all examples, which will go to your stockpile. Remember codes are caps sensitive when it comes to naming specific equipment).
Open the cheat / test window and for the various strat bomber options x100:

ae 100 STR Bomber 1985
ae 100 STR Bomber 2015
ae 100 STR Bomber 2025

does someone know hoe the: ban party, declare one party state stuff works in your parties view? i have an absolute majority of 60+%, am sole ruling party but cant declare one party state
I dont think that is a mechanic currently. You can ban a lot which lets you hold power but theyre still technically in exile
How effective is the AI against the player? Is his presence and opposition to the player felt? Especially AI USA and other majors?
It's not fantastic, I recommend Multiplayer for MD

Amazing tutorial. But I still don't understand how I am supposed to build satellites. The menu that shows warhead production does not give the option to build satellites, only nuclear and conventional warheads.
Its the far left tab, separate from warheads. You will need to build the sattelite and a launch vehicle as well. Just a heads up I will be making a new guide for this in 1.9 that is hopefully more clear/better.
How can i use submarine launched ballistic missiles
I seem to be unable to launch any GLCM,s and IRBMs. I have the necessary buildings but my "launchers" is 0???

Do you know why for my game everything below LEU isn't there? I can only see a + sign, the top 50% and no missile icon on the nuclear warhead production although it says there's one there when I hover over it with my mouse?
You may have a potato computer like me. Unfortunately the aspect ratio you have at the moment is needed so you can see the little red X in the top right of building slots, when you click on a state and hover over a building to delete it. However if you go to options and change the "UI scaling" from 1.0 to 0.8 or something it will zoom out (you'll need to save and restart the game). This will then allow you to see more of the menus you click on in game, so you'll see the whole window that pop up! This will allow you to see everything on the missile window as it does not have a scroll bar, so what you're seeing currently is half the window with the rest outside your view.
Unless you're able to just have a higher resolution set in the graphics, you'll have to use this zoomed out "UI scaling" thing. But again if you ever want to delete building slots during peace time (not just converting CIV factories to MIL factories, but actually fully deleting a building). You'll need to save your game, change the UI scaling in graphics setting back to 1.0 reload... delete whatever buildings. Save... Change the UI scaling to 0.8 or whatever one works for you. Reload the game.. Yeah.

Correct, no nukes would be launched in that case

Try the Ai division limiter, turn off the full resolution graphics, remove micro states, disable in game models.

Try changing to directx 9 in launcher settings, or changing the ui settings to be smaller. If those dont work download the ui overhaul mod and use that

No step back changed the whole system, so the MD devs are adding them back. Some nations havent had unique ones put in yet. You can always do officer corp promotions though.

I launched 52 of them in orbit (2035 model) and nothing......no boosts of any kind and I still cant use cruise missles.

Missile menu, go to the far left tab and scroll all the way down. There you can build OLV's for launch and the different types of satellites

You probably have more than one doctrine that does not allow it. Make sure you only have first strike. After that its simply setting up a launch

There is a two week delay, keep an eye on the province.
What is a disadvantage of having very high population tax rate? Corporate tax means less factories, right?
Every pop tax you increase by 1% decreases stability by 1%. And yeah corporate tax functions like consumer goods in vanilla
how do i use defense missile? my ships have 100% but it dosent seems to use missiles

Having good missile defense in the missile menu gives you a flat aa bonus to ships. You will notice they shoot down way more aircraft in combat/ For shooting down missiles themselves being launched at you having SAM sites in range will automatically do it assuming you have the anti missile equipment in stock
