I have a bag of scoured fleece, ready to be spun into yarn. Last time, I kettle dyed this (Dye Time #170 • Dye Time #170: Kettle ... ). This time I decided to solar dye it with some dye powders. I used frozen, silver grey and sour apple acid dyes from Dharma and violet acid dye from DT Craft and Design.
I left this fibre in the sun for a few days, then heat set it on the stove in a low/full immersion set up. Then I carefully washed, carded and spun the fibre into yarn.
And I have plans to dye more scoured fleece.
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
