Back in Dye Time #22 ( • Dye Time #22: Frozen Y... ) I frozen some yarn in a block of ice to dye it. It's been while but I've finally done this method again. This time, with socks. I frozen the socks in the ice, then sprinkled dye (mom jeans and lavender fibre reactive dyes from Dharma) and soda ash on top and let the ice melt. In hindsight I probably should have done this in the summer months, not January as it took a long time for the ice block to melt, then it froze up again!
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.

I have a monthly yarn subscription that can be purchased through my Patreon: / fromthecauldron Each month you'll receive 100g of yarn in your chosen weight dyed in a mystery colourway and some goodies made by other small businesses. Another perk for Patreons is they get early access to the video where I dye that month's yarn and they get to vote for next month's theme.

Next time you dot his, you may get darker colors, that don't wash out as much, if you soak them in the soda ash first. You'll have to try that and then see if there is much of a difference. Loved these though.

I’m hoping to do that method soon. As it’s warming up, my project is less likely to refreeze!
