New Technologies 2024: 10KG 40HP 100$! HOW WORK NEW ENGINE? Aquarius - 1 piston!

  • The Aquarius free-piston engine represents a paradigm shift in automotive engineering. Through the innovative integration of cutting-edge technologies, this engine has been designed to use just one piston but can effectively harness the power of two combustion chambers. Its lightweight construction is noteworthy, tipping the scales at a mere 10kg. Yet, despite its compact size, it doesn't compromise on performance, boasting a formidable output of over 40 horsepower. While these features are remarkable on their own, what truly sets this engine apart from its contemporaries is its affordability. It's almost unbelievable that such a state-of-the-art piece of machinery is priced at an incredibly modest 100 dollars, making it a potential game-changer in the automotive world.

A range extending engine for a EV sounds so sensible for many vehicles. It should be implemented.

For climates that get cold enough for heat pumps to be ineffective, cause EV batteries to be unable to take a charge and operate at reduced performance until the battery pack warms up, having a gasoline generator power and heat the vehicle at least until batteries are up to temperature could help quite a bit too. When you need both the power and all of the heat you can get, gasoline (with exhaust heat recuperation) becomes 90+% efficient. 30kW is a bit excessive for a normal EV though as most cars only need 16-20kW to sustain highway speeds.

@@teardowndan5364 If 30kW > power to sustain highway speed then just remove the batteries and replace them with smaller and cheaper module of supercapacitors. The whole thing can be cheaper than an ICE, fully electric, or hybrid car. Right?

@@royroye1643 Like LiC? I did the math a while ago and if you want the system voltage to stick around 400V, you will need about 125 cells in series and each of those would need to be about 7500F in size just to handle regen braking and acceleration loads. If you want enough storage to run the car long enough to survive a red light cycle before the generator needs to kick in again and run long enough to be worth starting, you'll need at least 50X more space.

In a standard engine the piston changes travel direction by riding the crankshaft via the connecting rod so its motion is secured without banging into anything. Bravo for your invention Aquarius, idea with this weight and the amount of energy produced, question: if this invention would be introduced in an electric vehicle, if I understand correctly, could generate enough electricity to power the vehicle's batteries, therefore the only energy input would be the fuel to power your Aquarius invention.
I don't know the amount of consumption of the Aquarius, but it would perhaps be a significant reduction in greenhouse gases.

The problem is vibration. The connection between the drive shaft MUST have a teeter-totter arm linking to a linear actuator of about the same mass so while the piston shifts to one side the piston in the generator is shifting in the other direction. It will still likely vibrate a lot, but this will help. Those pivot points though will take a beating.

Basically, the design is an opposed two-stroke. There is no indication of a compression seal on the shaft. Without a seal, compression will be forced through the bearing leaving the combustion chamber void of any fuel-air mixture. Lubrication and heat distribution is also not shown. If this was to run on a fuel oil mixture it would not comply with emissions standards. Unless these design shortfalls can be addressed is engine is as they say "it's dead in the water."

A generator doesn't need rotary motion to induce a current by electro magnetism. You could actually draw power off each end of the push rod, on each throw of the piston, it may actually provide a useable sign wave if you can control the engine speed and decelerate the piston instead of a deadend stop. I wonder if they've tried?

the electric car has now transformed from eating coal power, to becoming a petrol car. its like we stopped using coal trains and resorted to petrol cars. The historical cycle of reinventing the wheel continues!

now we make electric cars powered on petrol, the new petrol ca r. except more exploitation of lithium mines. and unneccesary vibrations that cause for more maintenace. I dont buy it.

Sketchy at best Despite Brochure babbles. This is basically a doubled up 2 stroke Two bores sharing a piston.
With All the downsides of a 2 stroke: poor exhaust with short circuited intake charges.
Not Fully understanding the power delivery beyond the to and fro motion that 'could' generate Electricity.

Range extender with fossil fuels WOW, sounds like a fossil fuel car! Lets' just admit it - EVs are a disastrous failure if you have to add an internal combustion engine to replace internal combustion engines.

This is not a terrible idea but it has very limited applications and will not be any good for transportation without redundancy and stupid conversions. It's only applicable for generators. Using generators to drive electric motors is also retarded, regressive and redundant.

100$? I'd pick up one right now, if that were the case.
a 40hp generator engine, for 100$, yea, couldn't pass that up.
