Lots of mistakes, makes me think you aren't even checking your sources. But pretending it's not BS, the limiting factor in the Plaid is not the motors. The motors are limited by the battery packs peak output. According to Engineering explained, TMC tear downs both came to the conclusion that the peak output is nearly 1000BHP for just the rear drive unit. Also confirmed by this being the main drive unit in the Semi.
The Plaid has 3 motors and the front is not the same as the rear. The power density of the rear is about 70% higher than the front.

EV’s weigh substantially more than a comparative ICE vehicle. It’s the battery packs that are the issue. EV’s require special tires because of that fact. But I tend to agree with you about the power output that a lot of EV’s have. The problem is that the vast majority of EV buyers, lack the skill required to safely operate them. So you have some average Joe behind the wheel of an insanely powerful and HEAVY vehicle, and that is a recipe for disaster.

Today, there's at least 4 companies producing electric motors in the 10 hp/kg range. What there's only ONE of, so far, is the lightweight turbogenerators series being developed by Rolls Royce for the small aircraft market. Including a 300 lb version that generates legit continuous 500 KILOWATTS output power. Pair that w/ a 10 hp/kg motor weighing 180 lb (80 kg). You got yourself a continuously powered 670 hp motor, w/ ability to hit 800 hp. Weighing in collectively at 500 lb. And using 27 gallons of gasoline per hour to do it, at a turbogenerator efficiency of...
50%. 500 KWh = 1,706,071 btu/hr. Gasoline = 125,000 btu/gallon. Do the Math. That's ~170 lb of fuel/hr. And that's only when you actually need 670 hp. Under most conditions, drivers don't NEED 2/3 of that. 223 hp gets you round & about just fine, while using only 9 gallons/hr. By comparison, common 30 mpg vehicles use 3 gallons/hr.
    A 60 miles/day routine involving city traffic conditions takes 3 hrs. A 1994 Ford F-250 XLT w/ 460 cu.in. V8 + Holly 4-barrel carb, getting 10 mpg in city, is using 3x as much fuel as the 30 mpg cars. About 9 gallons/hr. W/ max hp = 450 hp (OEM factory config).
As you can see, electric vehicles aren't that great for primarily stop-n-go driving. OTOH, for heavy lifting/long distance driving to places where regular large diesel shipping trucks in traffic gets complicated... these e-vehicles have the same power in a smaller lighter more maneuverable transport. And w/out burning diesel fuel to do it.

go check out "jacobs law" and then revise those figures to be more realistic of real world conditions ;) just because its 500KW into a resistor doesnt mean a motor can dissipate it. and generators are measured in kva due to reactive loads... show me a 500kw generator driving a 500kw motor delivering a genuine 500kw shaft power minus losses.
it doesnt work like that ;) advertising brochures like this rely on the fact that you arent aware of that minor detail.
turbines are terribly inefficient when not loaded.

But how much does this motor weigh including the massive battery? The motor is useless without a battery. And as the battery discharges, the power goes down, but the weight remains the same. So the power to weight ratio is constantly decreasing during operation. Just the opposite is true for the IC engine. As the fuel burns off, the power to weight ratio increases.

my research and study of graphene batteries over the past 15+ years indicates graphene would be a great match to this electric motor for every reason that matters most.
graphene has a greater energy density than lithium, safer (less fire hazard), abundantly available materials, recycleable, faster charging capabilities, longer cycle life and maintains capacity over a longer time period (longer lifespan). also, graphene batteries permit greater power output throughout a greater portion of the batteries capacity, compared to lithium. lithium loses power when the battery is near the end of its charge. graphene keeps going strong until the battery is near depleted.
couple this electric motor to graphene batteries, and you have a masterpiece.

The usage of rare earth materials will keep this design out of mass production for automotive use. As well, this video's use of unrelated graphics (pistons? wtf) and mistakes re axial vs radial flux make this video worthly of a downvote.

What makes me laugh is how Evs, ALL EVs, can out run any petro supercar.
Even the most modest family sedan can do it. Hey, there $$ to be made here.
Find a muscle car/supercar & challenge the owner to a drag race for CA$H.
THEN, educate him on how blindingly fast electrics are.
    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !!!!!!!!!!
Maybe he will be at the dealership tomorrow & trade.

This video is irredeemably flawed with gross conceptual error. Don’t watch it because you’ll come away knowing less than the zero knowledge you had before watching it, i.e. knowing WRONG things. 😳🙄
Worse than using showing IC engines when describing electric motors, this video states (and shows in the video) a fundamental conceptual error about axial vs radial flux.
Old motors use radial *magnetic* flux and the new “pancake” motors use axial magnetic flux. The video narration and animation have it absolutely backward, showing the electric current in the conventional motor.

Pretty dorky to have images of ICE's in a video of electrics.
Are you really that desperate for footage?

Yes the EV industry certainly is BOOMING with batteries exploding so badly car makers have stopped making them because they are too dangerous and insurance companies won't insure them and shipping owners won't ship them

What are you talking about, the model Y became the top selling vehicle. It’s still hilarious when people think that batteries are more flammable than gas tanks or that EV fires are anywhere near the level of gas vehicles fire statistics

    • @parttimetourist

@@xpeterson I don't know which planet you are living on but on Earth where I reside EVs are going on fire in abundance. Two days ago in my city, we had bus fires and a converted Cement Truck exploded causing severe damage to buildings and traffic

      @xpeterson Před 6 měsíci

@@parttimetourist no way, an EV caught fire? It’s a good thing we rely on that anecdotal evidence rather than large scale studies by the National Transportation Safety Board or the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Here on planet earth, uncle Bob and his CZcams channel is the most reliable source of facts…
