    Thanks! I'm blown away by the LiquidPiston engine. It's a shame it's taken them 20 years to get this far, but it looks extremely promising for power to weight and simplicity.

      I like it too, the surface area would work better for more complete combustion. I think the Omega 1 would be an ideal rotary but it might take them 20 years heh

    They use APU's on planes and Space Shuttle, would make sense to use them on hybrid EV's.

    great to see all these enginge types in the one update. also good that you include thermal efficiency data when it's known.

    That jet turbine one sounds like the future driving by!

      Nope. All kinds of problems, some not at all easily solvable, like what do you do with that massive amount of VERY hot exhaust, and the fact that specific fuel consumption BEYOND sucks. The real upsides a are power/weight, longevity, smoothness, and some others I'm probably missing. Another negative is cost, and the difference is MASSIVE. I doubt they are going to be printing blades, especially hot section, any time in the near future, either. I'm not even sure how you WOULD print a single crystal structure, unless you were printing down at molecular levels. I can guarantee you that most of this will never come to fruition, not in the foreseeable future, most of it probably never. Some of the ideas are just totally impractical, really.

      @@MrJdsenior glad you spent all that time writing this up… I said sounds like the future not is the future 😑

    I like that Avadi Engine, but I'm a little biased.

    One more turbine generator that I believe could successfully work today as a range extender is Cosworths CatGen Turbine engine.

    This is the lvl of engineering that needs to be brought in ic engines. Not only as range extenders but also with variable load aspeed and torque handling
    I would like to see the FMEA of all these engines.

    @MrJdsenior Před 6 měsíci +3

    A few of these are not even working engines. Some were running on air pressure, which is very different from IC. I can think of an easy way to balance the double acting single piston, btw, either passively dynamical or actively. And it you did what I'm thinking you could balance it very well.

      Great point! Toyota got involved with single free piston single rebound quite awhile ago but the o.p. is great for direct conversion, maybe better than the other engine designs just due to its simplicity.

      Achetes is being tested by Walmart. They have a huge incentive as investors, that is using it’s trucking as testing ground. Probably save a ton of fuel for each vehicle

    Is any further development interest happening on centrifugal compression disk engines?

      I have heard nothing so far on the wave disc, I think it was tested as a compressor.

    A small turbine used at a constant speed running a generator would be a hreat range extender.

    SFC (specific fuel consumption) in pounds per horsepower-hour (or g/kWh) is at least as important as specific mass. 10 kW is plenty of power for an EV range extender.

    Just because a complex engine can be made it does not follow that it should be.

  • @stevenbliss989

    SMALL range extender engine makes some sense IF used as a recharger. Start "charging" the battery from the start, even though the drain is higher than the charging rate. So if 50% power, then doubles range. So at 10-20kw engine would do the trick. Also the engines do NOT have to be all that durable as they would be use INFREQUENTLY by any sensible driver.

    • @stevenbliss989
      @stevenbliss989 Před 6 měsíci

      Being less DURABLE makes them cheaper and SMALLER!
