    You are the man! This helped me replace the clutch on my DC07 with ease and it now works perfectly. I particularly liked the part to confirm if the clutch was indeed broken or in working condition. My was definitely broken. You saved me $500 from buying a new machine. Thank you kind sir!

    Fantastic video. Helped me fix my Dyson DC33 Animal. Process took 10 minutes. Hardest part was getting the belt over the brush but the belt tool made it possible.

    Thanks for the fantastic video. My beater bar would stop rotating under load (or rotated very slowly) and stopped picking up the dirt and pet hair, so I thought it was the clutch. But when you said if the clutch rotated, it was OK...so I looked elsewhere for the problem. Both belts seemed fine. I had the beater bar out and took that apart (twisted the ends off) to find lots of dog & cat hair in there....I cleaned and re-greased it...reassembled the whole unit and still it ran slowly. I took the clutch back out and found the thinner belt coming off the motor had glazed over (maybe from all the hair collected in the beater bar put resistance on it and made it slip) and I decided to dissemble that side of the clutch and flip the belt over to the opposite side. I reassembled the entire thing and it now works better than ever! I'm going to order two new belts and replace them in the clutch assembly down the line...but I now have my 10yo vacuum back as good as new!! Can't thank you enough Alec!!

    Hi Alec, As so many others have commented, you really saved the day! I was inches away from ditching my 10-yr old Dyson D14 Animal but something told me to do some online research before giving up. And Voila! There you were with your informative and easy to understand instructions! I have never taken on a self-repair like this before, but your videos gave me the confidence to try. And bada bing, a new roller and clutch (and just a couple of banged up knuckles) and I'm back in business - the old gal is running like brand new!! Not sure if you're aware, but you're definitely famous on lots of help sites where posters specifically refer people to your CZcams vid's for help. So thanks a million for sharing your expertise!! Be well. Jayne from CT

    Great video on DC 07 clutch replacement. Authorized Dyson repair shop was unable to get parts and returned broken unit to me. I purchased transmission assembly plus belt replacement tool and long shaft magnetized Torx drivers for a total of 73.58. I recommend purchasing the long magnetized drivers and the belt replacement tool otherwise you will be frustrated and might even hurt yourself using excessive force and having a screwdriver slip.

    I did it! Never could have done it without you. Man, it was a beast getting the main belt back on the roller. Best method seems to be sitting on the ground with the head in your lap so you can pull with a screwdriver with great force. I did indeed skin my knuckles. Probably should be a two person job...

  • @xex2kok
    @xex2kok Před 4 lety +1

    That first screw for the clutch that you need a long screwdriver for is a nightmare. I can see it in the hole but actually getting it to connect is seemingly impossible. Thank you for the video though, it is much appreciated. I am combining this video with another one that shows how to disassemble the clutch and replace both bands. :)
    Edit: I was successful! Replaced both belts in the clutch and assembled it back together and the vacuum works like new now. The belts only cost $5 while the clutch is a lot more. It was not that difficult but not a job for everyone.

    Great video! I do have a question though. After checking the clutch and reassembly, the brush still does not turn when engaged. There is good suction in the hose, but nothing where the brush is. Also checked for blockage everywhere else and cleaned the unit. My assumption is the clutch may be bad even though it was turning as you indicated in the video. There may be a chance the belt is slipping on the white cylinder you pointed out in the video. I'm also thinking that if the motor was bad there would be no suction at all.

    Great video, took me a lot longer though - even managed to punch myself on the mouth when the belt lifter tool twanged off the belt!. I removed the first screw using a long small bladed flat screwdriver, as I don't have a No 15 torx screwdriver that will fit down the hole. Also lost the screw within the vac for about 15 mins when I tilted it! Best to remove it with a bit of blue tac on a screwdriver - also a good way of replacing the screw. Also agree with others that the control knob is really difficult to remove. Anyway all in all a successful repair. Cheers.

    Mine does not have a clutch! so when it often catches lose strands from edges of carpets, the strands wrap themselves up on the roller brush and jam the belt which then overheats and melts and cost a fortune to replace! hence why Dyson introduced this clutch, as an after thought.

      Alec did say they were #15 Torx. I had a fatter shafted Torx driver (one with interchangeable tips stored in the top used for electronic applications) that didn't make it all the way down into the screw area through the access hole. What I did was I drilled out the access hole to a larger diameter (5/8") so my Torx driver made it all the way down to the screw. Once I did that they unscrewed very easily.

  • @kewrock

    For the amount of money they get for the Dyson and Miele vacs, there should be a resettable circuit breaker. My personal machine is a 25 year old Electrolux Epic upright. If I had to replace a belt or clutch on it every time I had to press the circuit breaker button, it would be a couple times a year. My machine still has the original belt.
    This month I replaced the second clutch in a ten year old Dyson, and a belt in a brand new Miele with a piece of yarn caught around the brush. I fixed these machines as favors for family, but a shop would have gotten at least $150.
    If you're considering one of these overpriced machines. Do your self a favor. Go on Ebay and get yourself a used Electrolux upright or canister. $100. it will last forever. AND simple simple simple to do disassemble and fix.
