    This video saved my life but before ordering a new brush, try to fully clean and fix your current “bad” brush.” We got the brush out as the video shows. My boyfriend easily pulled off the brush right endplate (side next to the clutch). We found a nasty thick 3/4” wide and 1/4”thick compacted roll of hair that was so thick it was preventing the brush from spinning freely. There was also a smaller compacted hair roll on the left endplate side. Once removed I washed everything with warm soapy water. We put it together as per the video and it’s like we have a brand new brush. The noise is gone and the vacuum works properly. Saved us the cost of a new brush and clutch tool. We did it all by hand. Hope that helps someone! ✌🏼

    Great video Thanks.
    For those who don't want to buy the tool you can still do it pretty easily. Just take 2 screwdrivers, slip them under the belt, pry against the side plastic, lift up the belt, and spread the belt apart slightly. Have someone else pass the roller through. It wasn't too much of a hassle.

    • @DillonCleans
      @DillonCleans  Před 2 lety

      So this is somewhat true. But if you can use the screwdrivers that means you most likely have to replace the clutch because the belts are worn out. But in some situations, you can do that. But most of the time, the belt lifter tool is required.

      One of the screws at the top may have halfway turned. Make sure all the half then screws are vertical. not horizontal. And make sure the brushroll itself is seated properly into place. And make sure you align the baseplate on the machine correctly. It can be tricky. I hope this helps. If this doesn’t. Please let me know. I can assist further

    Thank you. Being Eastern European and using tools only when they are mandatory, I suggest though that a screwdriver or something long can be used to keep the belt out, and then used for leverage when inserting it in.

    • @DillonCleans
      @DillonCleans  Před 2 lety

      Screwdriver can work if the belt is old and loose. Typically you can’t do that. But if you’re super strong, I suppose you could

    • @dubmob151
      @dubmob151 Před 2 lety

      Picked up that tool, it seemed that the belt was intended to be hooked on both of the pegs so the roller can be passed through, but the pegs are too far up for the amount that the belt is able to stretch.
      It was only possible to hook it on one peg as shown in the video and then using the hook to get clearance for the roller, which was easy enough that way. 👍

    Hi Dillon, I have the DC 14 and watched this video and also your video on changing the clutch. I just did what you showed in the very first part on checking to see if it is the clutch or brush roll and my brush roll doesn't spin at all when I have it in the carpet setting. It does however make that horrible ratcheting sound when I vacuum. Would you know why my roller doesn't spin? Maybe I just thinking about it wrong, but your thought on this would be appreciated. I did order a new clutch but having difficulty finding a decent brush roll on eBay. Thanks!

    • @DillonCleans
      @DillonCleans  Před rokem +1

      If your clutch is making that loud noise then your clutch is actually in good condition. You shouldn’t have to replace the clutch. If you brushroll doesn’t spin when the vacuum is reclined and you hear that sound, that means something is stopping the roller from turning. It could be something jammed in the housing. Hair around the brushroll bearings. Or something caught in the clutch. Take the brushroll apart and the housing apart and see what you find. It’s a good idea to replace the roller anyway since it’s probably old, but if you can’t find one you may not need to replace it. Hope this helps.

    you could just replace the bearings in the brush roller for 5.99 amazon. taking the end cap off of the roller makes it easier to get under the belt just put it back before seating the belt.

    • @DillonCleans
      @DillonCleans  Před 2 lety

      Great tip. And I do recommend replacing the bearings if that’s all it needs. However my brushroll and many brushrolls will need to be replaced due to the bristles breaking or because they have worn short. Like mine have. But you are correct and replacing the bearings alone can save you a lot of money

  • @juliecaudill2845
    @juliecaudill2845 Před rokem

    Dillon- Can I ask you a question? My roller is not turning fast so is that the belt or the clutch or the motor?

    • @DillonCleans
      @DillonCleans  Před rokem +2

      Hi Julie! If the vacuum seems to run just like normal it most likely isn’t the motor. If the roller is turning just not very quickly, it could be one of two things. Or both. The belts in the clutch have likely gone bad and stretched out. I would advise replacing the whole clutch since replacing the individual is not an easy task. The next thing is the bearings in the brushroll. If you take out the roller, there will be 2 end caps. One on either side. If you remove those (it may take a little twisting) you may find a building of dust and hair. Clean it out and put it back together. If it doesn’t spin freely you may have bad bearings and you should replace the bearings as well. Or you could just replace the whole roller and have a brand new one in there. So the first thing I’d do is clean out the brushroll bearings and endcaps as well as replace the clutch. If this didn’t solve your issue please let me know. And if you have any problems or any further questions, please let me know!

      If you hear that sound, that means the clutch mechanism is working. However, some thing is blocking it from turning. Inspect the brush roll and takeoff the end caps to remove any hair that might’ve been caught in there. Inspects both belts and make sure the belts inside the clutch are turning freely.
