This is a superb and very helpful video. As a retired Chartered Engineer, I know good advice when I see it! Well shot, edited and a clear commentary. What's not to like? Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for the comments Phil. :-)

Thank you SO much for this video. I can't believe my local vacuum repair shop was going to charge me $230 to replace this and the HEPA filter. Thanks to your videos I was able to do it myself in 20 minutes AND at a cost of less than $50 total.
Glad to hear you managed to sort your problem. Hope we can help again with other repairs in the future. :-)
Followed step by step. Changed clutch. Vacuumed the living room carpet and had half a bucket of dog hair. Thought the DC07 was like new again after 10 years! Thank you would of ditched it if not for the video!
This is a great Video. I was having problems with my DC14 and looked at this and decided to have a go myself. I ordered a clutch, filters and set to. The most difficult part was getting the beater bar underneath the new belt. It is a case of perseverance and mind over matter. Ear plugs for the wife mat have helped! Bottom line is the cleaner is working as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a new model. Well done eSpares👍
Hi Derek, we are glad the video helped and we like that you have saved some money, nice job.
Thank you for such a clear video! I ended up purchasing a newer vacuum because I thought mine was just done for. I really dislike the newer Dyson's; they feel quite flimsy during use so I wanted my DC14 back!! I was able to problem solve, order the parts I needed and fix it myself....with the help of your video! Thanks a bunch!
Hi Caryn, thank you for your post and well done for fixing it and glad our video helped.
Bought the clutch on eBay, with this video took about 45 minutes to change out the clutch. The local vac shop wanted $150 to replace the clutch or trade in on a new.
Thanks for the instruction.
Thanks so much! You made it so easy. I bought the clutch change tool on Amazon for $11 - the hook and the belt holder made this job a lot easier, but it was your video that made it all happen! And, I changed the brush's roller bearings at the same time - also easy and inexpensive ($9, 625-2 bearings). Thanks to you, our vacuum is up and running again!
Hi Rob, glad we could help.
AWESOME! Thank you! I just changed the clutch in my DC14 Animal thanks to this video.
Brilliantly done - this video cost me 7 minutes of time and saved me $50 (or more) to have it professionally serviced. During disassembly, I found the issue causing weak suction, too - Mom somehow managed to vacuum up a full-sized Sharpie.. Very surprised by how over 100 people could have marked this as a thumbs down.
Hi Michael, thank you for your post and glad the video helped you save money, well done ☺
Followed the video and bought espares parts to save myself an expensive repair bill. The hidden screw was the trickiest part, but was able to find from reading the text on the video. Great work espares.
Thanks Joe for the comments, remember to 'like’ the video if you enjoyed it or it helped.👍
Coliholic. Watched it half a dozen time before starting and it worked perfectly. It was almost as if I knew what I was doing. SWMBO was most impressed and keeps bigging me up to her mates. Brilliant. Thanks
+Colin Maslen Thanks for the comments Colin, remember us next time you want to impress the little lady. :-)

What a great video...Gonna replace the clutch, belts, and agitator on my own DC-14 and this video was a tremendous help.Thank You!
+Nicole S Thanks Nicole hope all goes well. Note: new belts are often very tight so if this is the case do not worry you are unlikely to have the wrong belt.
Thank you for an excellent run through with great warnings of awkward steps. Clutch installed on my DC07 successfully!
Some of the best videos I have seen on the web; short, concise and well done. Thanks
Seen several of these Clutch replacement videos for this units. This is by far the best. Professional, to the point, and well photographed. Subscribed. Keep up the good work !
Thank you so much for your video! I just replaced the clutch on our dc14 animal and I couldn't have done it without your help!
Hi Jo-Ann Freeley, well done for fixing it and glad our video helped.
I also was having trouble getting the actuator off and went CZcams searching to find the answer. Thanks for the great info.
Our DC14 requires removing 3 screws to remove the clutch cover. Actually the video shows removing the third screw but audio only mentions 2. As shown in the video, the third screw is at the motor end of the cover and is accessed through a hole in the casing.
Thanks very much for this excellent video - exactly the right pace to walk through the task in hand. Nearly took a finger off putting the brush bar back on!
Thank you so much! Getting the knob off was just as hard as getting the beater bar back in the belt for me. Also that third screw in the clutch cover was a beast--I didn't have the screw driver aligned with the screw head properly at first and bored I a hole through the plastic cover!! But all is good now and what a difference! I really appreciate your taking the time to make the video. (DC14)
Thanks for the comments and glad to hear you sorted the problem.
Thanks so much! I don't think I would off figured this one out without this video saved me from buying a new Dyson
Wow. Getting that roller belt back on was tough. Thanks so much for the video!
+Michael Clendening Glad you made it Michael. :-)
Cheers Matt, saved me 60 quid ! Easy job to do. Just changed the motor to clutch belt only ( £2.59 genuine part ! ) and it now works like a new one
Well done sproutyDP. :-)
Thank you for this video. Ordered the clutch for my 15 year old dc14 and had it switched out in less than 20 minutes. Easy peasy!
Hi Erin, thanks for your post. We're glad this video helped you fix your vacuum. Have a great day.
THANK YOU. I just replaced my DC14 clutch (which is quite an accomplishment for me) and I couldn't have done it without your guidance. Cheers.
vicdmise Never underestimate your abilities, you can do most things with patients and the right information.:-)
this video helped me change the clutch on my dyson dc04 absolute, changed 4 clutches now, helped my machine a lot, my old one didn't activate right if I ran over something instead the machine would start bouncing sbout
Some Dyson machines are 'auto height adjusting' so on deep carpets the brushes are pushed into the carpet from the weight of the motor assembly.
Hi,
Well done! We believe you may be our youngest ever Fix-it specialist!
Thanks for the video.. received my new clutch 8n the mail today and was very simple to disassemble and reassemble due to your video
Hi James, thank you for your post and glad the video helped.
You were right on .. i could not the plastic canister off also. This has never happened before. I bravely unscrewed the top to find the which look like a little thin long black piece of plastic moving in the inside. i said that it. i finally got it back in the release part, i dont know the part name. I am glad you told me what to look for. Dyson said i need to replace entire canister. Again, Thank you for helping me with my Dyson
Matt!!! Thank you so much for posting this!! You saved us hundreds of dollars! I just replaced our busted clutch within minutes... And your video was the key!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Thank you worked out great for our 12 old dc07. We bought the clutch for about the price of the two belts. Took a while to get through all of the steps, but soooo worth it.God bless.
Hi Brad, thank you for the comment and glad our video helped you to fix it yourself.
Excellent video! Ordered the OEM part on eBay. Watched this video and installed the assembly on my DC33 in 15 minutes. Thank you!!!
+Pistol Crockett Fantastic, we're glad our videos helped you!
Thanks for this video. Saved me $110:parts/labor. Total damages:$30!
You're the best! Took me awhile, and I was most surprised when I turned it on, and it actually WORKED.
THANK YOU!
Hi Silvia, glad we could help but you did it so well done and have a lovely day.
Nice video with clear instructions. Thanks for sharing. Wish it took me as less time than you did. :-) The third screw wasn't obvious to find, but I found it. DC14. Gotta think I saved some money doing it myself. Many thanks!
Thanks for the comments, remember to 'like’ the video if you enjoyed it or it helped.👍
Thanks! With the help of this video, I was able to change the clutch on my 5 yr. old Animal! Works great again! Putting that roller brush back on was REALLY difficult though!
Thanks very much for another easy-to-follow video.
Hi, thank you for your comment here, hope our video helps you fix your Dyson soon!
@@eSpares It did! Thanks again.
Great video, very well shot with excellent commentary.
Hi Stephen, thank you for your post and glad you enjoyed the video remember to keep watching.
Just like to say if you look at this video and think its going to be a challenge then think again because i'm 13 and after finding this excellent video from e spares i managed to do this myself after ordering a part from them :)
Thanks for this video, I had to change the clutch on my DC14
Great help! Ordered the parts from you thanks to your videos.
Thanks very much. Important to be thorough we think.
Thank you so much! Your video was extremely helpful and now my Dyson works like new!
Brilliant and accurate video. It really helped me, especially when I seemed to struggle and wondered if I was doing it correctly. Then I see in your video that it was indeed a tough thing and Whammo it worked. Thanks for the excellent help.
Thanks for the comments Robert, glad you sorted it in the end.
I really like your clear, confident style. Mine went just like yours, thanks to a great teacher. ;)
Hi School for Hackers , glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for all your videos. This one was particularly useful. I have, however, successfully changed both belts on the clutch. It’s very tricky but possible.
Thanks for the comments Mathew.
Totally awesome video! Very easy to follow. With videos this good, you will put Dyson out of business. Well done !
Don't take life so seriously, was joking !
Extremely clear and easy to follow. Thank you for this video.
You are welcome Zhara. 😊
Many thanks Matt. Dyson lives to fight another day.
Well done and Thanks!
Just did a clutch change on a DC 14. The beater bar would stall at the slightest pressure. Turns out there was nice slick cat hair bound up between the belt and the clutch output shaft causing all the slip. No new clutch needed.
Hi Admiral Bob, well done for sorting it out.
Excellent, knowing what snaps into place and not snapping them, thats the ticket. Rear 3rd screw I had to tack in with tape, little buggar kept popping out.
Hi Jim, thanks for the comments and well done fixing it yourself.
Jim Washington yeah me too scotch tape for the win.
Really clear precise video, easy to follow step by step process of the clutch replacement on a Dyson DC07 Vacuum Cleaner!..Easy,,
Thank you for your kind comments!
just away to replace the clutch in my DC07 today, cheers
Good luck Alan.
Thank you for this video! I was going to take my DC07 Animal to a service center but the "man" on the phone was a total disrespectful tool! This video makes me confident that I can handle the replacement myself!
Update: I received the parts this past week and replaced the clutch and brush roller all by myself! It's working perfectly!! Thank you!!!!
Thanks, Matt! Saved me 60 quid too!
Best,
Clutch
Glad you sorted your problem 'Clutch'. :-)
@FeeLtheHertZ Feeling the love FeeLtheHertZ. Thank you!
great video would've been lost without it - many thanks
Hi Michael, thank you for the comment and glad the video helped.
Awesome, awesome presentation...Thank you very, very much
Thank you so much .... I used your help as well as another and I got it done myself!!!! ;)
Marlene Stone Well done Marlene. :-)
Hi,
The DC03 clutch is very similar. We have diagrams on our website of all Dyson models. You can then see where and how exactly it fits in but the process should be almost identical to this video.
Thanks.
Swapped clutches like I'd done it before and the vacuum works like new again.
Thanks so much!
My symptoms were the vacuum wasn't picking stuff up well of course, and we notice a rough pattern left behind if we pushed the vacuum quickly. When I flipped it upside down and with the brush running, applied a little pressure with a shoe, it stopped the brush easily. Don't try this if you're not competent.
Glad you've solved your problem :)
thank you very much for this video really helped me...with simple instructions...
+JERINE KUNJACHAN Thanks for the comments, hope all went well.
Great vid, gets rite to the point,I did it very easy while watching, best how to
Hi Michael, thank you for your post and glad you enjoyed the video remember to keep watching.
Thanks! Great video. I was able to fix our DC14 for six dollars.
Thanks heaps mate - you have saved the life of my vacuum cleaner and saved me some cash :-)
Platinum Gordon Thanks for your comments. :-)
thanks for the video very good information
+Tony Beer Thanks Tony. :-)
@Activsoul Hello. According to Wikipedia, the DC17 is a modified version of the DC14, designed for US markets. Apparently its doesn't have a clutch - but instead has a separate motor driving the brush-roll. Hope that helps.
Very good video, it helped a lot
+Howard hollis :-)
No problem - thank you!
Brilliant ! Thank you very much.
Hi Anderzander, thanks for your post and tuning in :)
Hi,
There are two types of DC-14's, Clutch-less and with Clutch. For Clutch-less models the Drive Belt is available but with Clutch models the drive belt is only available by purchasing the Clutch itself. Take a look at our website for further details.
Thanks
I'm working on a DC14 Animal here at AmeriVac Vacuum Center in Pennsylvania. Damn you make it look easy. I had to fight with the actuator knob to get it off.
Great video also works on a DC33 model. One thing I noticed was that if the brush roll is stuck or does not turn freely you can get a similar noise to the broken clutch --- in my case --- I replaced the clutch and the loud grinding noise still existed, I took the brush roll out again and noticed it did not spin easily. I pried off the end caps with a flat head screwdriver and removed a small handful of debris that had somehow gotten wound up around the spindle inside the end caps on both ends, after that it spun freely. I re-installed it and it worked fine.
Hi Neil, thanks for that as it is good information for eveybody. We have other videos available that show that the brush bar does get clogged up and needs to be checked regularly.
Excellent! Thanks job well done
+Jc Vitte :-)
this video helped me on my dyson dc 07
Your welcome Dylan Glester.
@FeeLtheHertZ Heya FeeLtheHertZ. Although it may be technically doable, the large belt isn't available from Dyson as a spare. They only provide that belt as part of a replacement clutch. Not sure we were clear about that in the video.
eSpares
I have a Dyson DC 14 with a broken large belt, number 05361-01-03, just like the one shown in your video. It’s a shame they cannot be replaced without spending $30 for clutch. Furthermore, why is it not direct drive from the motor pulley to the brush like on my Bissell PowerForce Helix? Because of this, it is also much easier and cheaper to replace a broken belt on my Bissell(which has only one). Nevertheless, does the Dyson DC 14 clean much better than my Bissell PowerForce Helix? If so, I might put the money into buying a whole new clutch assembly, and then replacing it myself, rather than spending $80 at my local vacuum repair shop to have them fix it.
bloody good mate! Right to the point of it.
Hi Nick, thank you for your comment and glad the video helped.
perfect Matt thanks. Small belt broke.
Hi Stew Muskie, glad you have sorted it well done.
@spapay Very welcome!
The belt for the brush can be replaced. tricky to get the circlip off without a fine ended circlip remover..I used two small screwdrivers
Thank you Matt. One more job I can cross off the list and save myself some money at the same time! Just a thought - instead of the word 'tricky' maybe you could substitute 'bloody hard'! : )
lol. 😊
Matt - great video and tutorial but I think you miss a key step at 2:40. To access the hidden third screw to remove the clutch cover you need to unclip the plastic U Bend pipe to reveal the access hole. This is on a DC14. Once I had worked that out the rest went smoothly!
Thanks Stephen, very occasionally we can miss little details like this possibly due to editing and this may not be picked up when we check the video before publishing. We have now added your input as an annotation to help others. Hope you approve and thanks again for your input. :-}
Replaced the clutch on a DC14. had to order the torch tools to get into the belt cover. As mentioned getting the belt on to the roller is a bit of a challenge. Had the machine of to a friend who has some sad excuses for vacuum cleaners.
Thanks for the comments. 😊
Awesome work Matt. I have purchased a DC14 a while ago at a garage sale for $10 woo hoo. I've replaced the clutch (with hubbys help), the little wheels on the bottom (all by myself LOL), and given it a good clean (all when bought it). Just noticing that the wand seems to be getting increasingly harder to pull out and put back in. Could this be because the inside of the hose is dirty? Or perhaps because it gets twisted. I try to untwist it one way but it seems to twirl the wrong way when I put it back in. Any advice.
Hi Ann, nice buy. The plastic around sliding parts can roughen up from friction and dust and get progressively stiff.
A little car polish on the metal tube will help it slide and extend its life.
@stanglver151 We sure do. Visit our site for more information. CZcams doesn't allow links in comments, but the site is listed in our descriptions and CZcams channel information.
Brilliant!
Hi Peter, thanks for your comment, glad you appreciate the video and hope it helps you fix your vacuum!
Is the brush roller supposed to move on it's own whether the clutch is engaged or not? I don't want to take it completely apart for no reason while doing my spring cleaning. Many thanks in advance and for the video! Definitely got my thumbs up and subscribe. :)
Very informative video. One thing though, both belts in the clutch are replaceable. A bit tricky to do, but very possible. Thanks!
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
One removed, check if your brush assembly is spinning freely on its own axis too (just stand it up, one hand on top other on a flat surface and spin the middle brushes), nothing worse than replacing the clutch to find it burnt out due to the cleaning brushes overloading it. If it doesn’t spin freely then you’ll need to replace it, the clutch (complete with the two belts) as shown above.
Hi Mudge07, thanks for your post. These checks would certainly help to save time and pinpoint the fault. Thanks for tuning in.
OMG! Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much :)
+cecaca :-)
Thank you so much and well done!
What a pain in the a$$ to get that brush back on there with the new belt, but I finally got it done. The bristles being so firm didn't help, but only a small amount of blood was spilled.
Hi Albert, well done on finishing the job.
@jjava83 Hmm difficult to say. It's all very easily opened up though. Have a look.
your all videos are very informative. we can save lot for money . Can you please upload the video how to change the power cord and motor in dyson dc26 city and dyson dc25. Thanks
+Hassan Ch Thanks for the comments Hassan, the closest video we have is: czcams.com/video/QZq1tXUkVK8/video.html
We hope to do a DC25 cable change in the future.
great video, just about to change my clutch this week. i also have issue with loss of suction when hoovering but not when using tools etc? any ideas?
Most likely cause will be the filters but watch another of our videos:
czcams.com/video/HxegLMZ1ADI/video.html
my actuator is clear, does that make a big difference? im have problems getting it off. i do admit im bad when it comes to strength, im always affraid i will break it before it comes off whenever im working with plastic.
i took my dyson dc 14 to be fixed. the diagnosis was bad clutch and going to cost $178. i watch this video 3 times and thought i could do it myself. clutch cost= $38. i took out the clutch and only the belt was broken. i put the new clutch assembly in by following his directions. first rate presentation and directions.
