$1 per bullet is getting closer than we thought….
Knowing Ubisoft, those greedy bastards will try that scheme.
Team Fortress 2 were visionaries and we just took it as a Meme.
in 2020, fmj for 9mm were almost $1 a pop. After the election, everyone bought ammo because democrats like to ban everything, so everyone bought all the ammo. I used to be able to get 1k rounds for $160 shipped before the fire nation attacked. During covid they were like $700-800. Prices never dropped that low since.
Only melee run let's goooo,... Or until they paywalled melee attack
We gotta get through $1 per magazine first
The fact that they already have the dlc named, means it is most likely content cut from the game, and should not be dlc. People got really pissed at BioWare for doing this with Mass Effect.
Yep, they clearly had the big wigs up top telling them to cut the game up to make DLC's & season passes to get as much money out of the customers as they can.
Best thing we can do is not buy anything from Ubisoft anymore but that won't stop other studios pulling the same trick.
is not even cut content, they make the dlc at the same time with the full intention of being dlc

Can we go back to the time when the premium price was justified because the set came with bundles of physical items like a hardcover art book, an original soundtrack CD, apparel and a figure?
No! You'll buy our day one DLC loot boxes with only a 1 in 100,000 chance of getting anything you want and you'll like it. But don't worry they come in bundles of 10 for 1,000 platinum coins which can be bought for 1,900 for $10 or 10,999 for $60, what a deal!

@@DefensiveLimestone Yeah the entire point of the comment from Ubisoft was that if subscription services are to take off in gaming, than most people need to get comfortable with not owning their games. A compromise people have already decided in the movie industry and others, but not the gaming industry. That's why gaming subscription services haven't really taken off. Even Game Pass isn't doing the numbers Microsoft wants, and that's literally the biggest gaming subscription service. Shit, most people that DO have it mostly have it due to it being coupled with other benefits. Like the ability to play online, for instance, considering most gamers play a handful of games or less.

I bought BG3 on steam for less than 60$ and then later I bought Physical copy of BG3 again in a "big box" with a buch of phisical goodies (like sound track CD) for less than 60$ (including transport fee). Larian and other (usually smaller companies) are proving it is still possible. It is the share holders who want you to think that it is no longer possible to provide decent product for decent price and developing games costs more & more.
At this point, if some one charge 70$ for a game that has additional micro payments in it or is not a "full bug free experience" with all the DLCs/Expansions - then it is a scam. Sorry to say, but it is what it is.
There are some companies (Ubisoft, WB, Gearbox etc) where the only way to get any enjoyment from their games is to wait 2+ years until they stop working on the game and buy the definitive edition on a deep sale for like 20-25 bucks.

some of the old star wars games were really fun. tie fighter was my favorite. first battlefront was awesome, hard to describe how good it was compared to everything else. original dark forces series, was like duke nukem / doom / rise of the triadd / heretic style graphics with some system shock for good gameplay. pretty much anything before early 2000's when game companies started wondering how they can make some money.
Buying one tank in world of tank cost between 30 up to 70 $ (not exact prices, but approximation).
When games were on cd or dvd, the whole game price was around 30$ . . .
People used to make fun of the fact that one day we will have day one dlcs. Now, it's common practice. If a game comes out and you need pay extra for the full game then the game is 110$ and you can chose to pay less for less of the game
That argument is only gonna make devs release the DLC later even if it's finished so it doesn't look like we're paying "less for less of the game". So they can still find ways to screw us over.
@@cHowaitothe point of a dlc always was extra content that was developed after realising the game and not to hold back some content from the game to sell it later as dlc. Also usually the dlc is separated from the main story, but this sounds like they just looked some story mission from the main story behind a 40 $ paywall.
Personally for me the worst thing is regional pricing for example palworld, hades and other indie games have regional pricing but triple games are always 70$ even after 2 years they go on at most 50% sale after the game is dead
Not that people care about discs anymore, but does anyone remember the alternative version of DLC, Disc Locked Content. I.e. content that is already on a disc (or today, in the game files), but can't be accessed without paying more.
People really should start using this term again, even in the days of downloads. Its spiteful nature should please those of us who abhor dlc as a concept. (bring back the days of actual expansions ffs.)
@@llukas0906 I think your argument would be correct if you were talking explicitly about full expansions. However the stuff called "DLC" was originally about small things that often looked as if they had been cut from the game so they could be sold later. This was a hallmark of early dlc. They were little things that at the very least appeared to have been cut and then parted out like a stolen car, regardless if they were or were not. They were low effort crap churned out to make more money. Their small nature was why the term 'microtransaction' could legitimately apply to them (somewhat, it should refer to transactions under a dollar or under a couple of bucks, the amount changes depending on who you ask, but is always very small, smaller than you would use a credit/debit card for at a store... think minimum purchase amount).
Somewhere along the lines people have conflated these little tidbits (think horse armor) with actual proper expansions (to keep with Oblivion, think Shivering Isles) and since it is all downloaded these days, just started calling it all dlc. When you look at the individual words, it is accurate as it is downloaded/downloadable and it is content. However when you look at what the term was used to describe prior to this conflation, it is clear that it refers to a very specific type of content and that it wasn't being applied to larger pieces of content like actual expansions until later on.
DLC should only be used to refer to the small stuff (if at all tbh). Expansion for the big stuff. If you want an encompassing term, something akin to 'plugin' could be used for the whole spectrum of post-launch content. (hell, using PLC, Post Launch Content would work pretty well)
It is a very simple psychological trick used in so many other markets already (eg. Popcorn prices in a cinema): The "small" version costs a somewhat reasonable amount, then there is a massive gap to the "medium" version with very little extra content. And for a smaller increase you could get the "big" version with so much more content. The middle version will only very rarely be bought and is simply there to make people buy the big version since you get a lot more stuff and the increase doesn't seem as big from the middle one
Ikr… all of this to force their customers to purchase their subscriptions, unless you’re a gamer speed runner that can finish the entire game under 1 month and then cancel the membership that would benefit some people who are like that
Or like George Carlin says; " poor people exist to scare the shit out of the middle class"
that was their intention, but it was extremely poorly executed

Them there's the fact them and other developers offer most times an art book / soundtrack as a deluxe edition bonus now with not much else. Hey genius, games are cheaper now than before. $60 in 1996 is equal to $110 today. Most new AAA games are $70…. I almost forgot people online are shit when it comes to basic math.
The context matters tho. The case for a general price-increase on new games can be made, and with good arguments. That can be true at the same time as condemning this kind of monetization and artificial price-increases.
Eh, considering the recent inflationary spike and the fact that game prices were artificially capped at 60$ a pop for a long while, I'm not super upset about the rise to 70$. What I AM upset about is the predatory monetization practices triple-A studios often practice IN ADDITION TO the 10$ price increase.
even me. even when there is just extra content locked behind the same price as the game.
In brazil we have to pay 350 for a AAA game in launch, the more expensive version of star wars outlaws is 650
Ubisoft has been on my blacklist for years now not even worth pirating due to how trash their design is.
Always a character or mechanic that spoils the entire solution for a puzzle in their games
lol. Design so bad that AC Origins and AC Odyssey feels like a real world that even non gamer can find joy for just walking around.
Ubisoft has not released a good game since Assassin's Creed Origins.
Just a few weeks ago ubisoft literally deleted a game that I bought. I had a copy of anno 1800 on my uplay and a copy of anno 1800 on steam to play online with friends. But one day their system somehow decided that its a good idea to link the steam version of the game to my uplay and now it is inpossible to run two SEPERATE copies of the game at the same time. Moreover, the steam version doesnt even seem to exist because when you run the game from steam it still opens my Uplay instance of anno 1800 with all the dlc that I dont have on steam. The worst part is that the support doesnt see a problem and refused to fix it in any way 😂

Those people never seem to realize that corporations will always try to see what they can get away with if it gets them more money.
I knew that was a lie. They were just making excuses to justify a higher price. If anything micro transactions and ultimate editions are getting worse
That was a decade ago before inflation made it way worse realistically if they were to keep in line with game pricing in the past games it would cost $120+ at this point. Relisticaly the budgets are multiple time larger and the games are cheaper (adgusted for inflation)
@@clintshidwood4511 honestly, and this might be controversial, I don't think microtransactions got worse.

Dude, you didn't notice that the season pass includes 2 more story DLCs, which is why the difference is so huge
In marketing, its called decoy prices. The fixed prices are artificially high to make the monthly subscription looking like a better deal. The reason this works is because humans have a very hard time internally calculating the value of goods (i.e. in absolute terms) without reference points in mind.
I love how they go through all of this effort of psychologically manipulating the human mind just to squeeze an extra 4$ when the best solution is to just make a good game without all this garbage attached to it
so in reality they just want people to subscribe and not buy?
@@johndank2209 even if you pay $110 you still don't own the game, the ultimate checkmate
Yes.
@@johndank2209 Yes. Its also much more costly to make physical production of copies compared to selling digital subscriptions. So its more cost effective. On top of that, if Ubi knows people are not going to buy the hard copies at a higher rate than subscriptions then they also avoid have to sell to retailers at lower costs which also includes distributional costs to the retailers as well.
The fact that we're paying the same amount we used to pay for the Collectors Editions of games like Halo and the Witcher (the kinds that came with a full strategy guide and other physical rewards, on top of the DLCs), just for a few pieces of downloadable content that aren't even fully guaranteed because they haven't been developed yet is absolutely mind blowing.
