      C. Ronaldo is by the far the most complete offensive player. Messi can't do everything. He does not dominate all aspect of this game. He has poor physique. Not a thread on headers. Many people are faster without the ball. Prime Ronaldo on the other hand dominates in every aspect. I'm not saying Messi isn't better than Ronaldo. Messi is the unique talent, Ronaldo is the guy who made himself have the allround offensive game by hard work. Ronaldo is the guy scoring 10/10 in everything offensive category, Messi is the guy who breaks the scale in the technical aspects and is mediocre in the physical aspects of the game.

    Its nice that Messi took a stop to drop a master class in England. Have the whole nation humbled with all this "Hazard is getting to Messi's level". But in all seriousness, as someone who watches La Liga week in and week out, this shouldnt surprise you. I have become so desensitized to these Messi performances that it baffles me how Prem watchers are in amazement how well Messi plays. Truly the best, with the ball at his feet, there has been no player that has ever matched his talent.

    • @barletbeqiri1125
      @barletbeqiri1125 Před 5 lety +47

      Couldn't agree more on every single point you made.
      As someone who follows very closely both Laliga and EPL, I can't help but see England as a very isolated county football-wise:
      They see their league as the "best toughest hardest" without having the slightest of clues what happens in the other ones; they consider Manchester United (which happens to be my favourite team btw) the biggest club in the world 😂 according to their pundits, the prem has the best goalkeeper and striker in the world (De Gea and Kane); they are enthralled by this "new" concept of building from the back as if they have discovered America, completely oblivious to the fact that it has been used for ages etc etc etc. I'm sure you're well aware of these and more.
      Anyway, let's cap it off with one of the many hilarious quotes I just read from the legendary Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis. On rumour linking Hamsik and Lavezzi with England, he responded:
      "If they want to go to England then in the end they're going to go, but they need to understand this: the English live badly, eat badly and their women do not wash their genitalia. To them, a bidet is a mystery."
      Cheers!

    • @andyw9255
      @andyw9255 Před 5 lety +14

      Informed English football fans and pundits are fully aware that "building from the back" has been around for ages outside England, but you should understand that for a long time English football was refereed differently (and, to some extent, still is), so it's hardly surprising that the game is played in a different way.
      For a long time English clubs had a comparable record in Europe to Spanish and Italian clubs, but unfortunately the isolation began due to the bans relating to hooliganism (again, all informed English fans see this as a low point in our footballing history). It was around this time - the late eighties and early nineties - that English football really started to evolve differently from continental football. You might be surprised to know that in the early eighties it was often Spanish teams who were known for being violent thugs (including Barcelona, but especially Athletic Bilbao).
      This forked path caused the English game a lot of problems - it became insular in its mindset, it became almost a different sport. It meant that successful English teams would often struggle in European competitions because (a) they couldn't attract top foreign players, (b) players and managers had missed out on several seasons of European football, and (c) referees would penalise English players for challenges that were allowed in the Premier League.
      And then from around 1999 onwards (Man Utd's treble season), English football started to recover. From 2000 to 2018, the Premier League has had the 1st or 2nd UEFA coefficient in 12 out of the 15 rankings produced so far (the rankings cover overlapping 4-year periods). From 2004-12 the Premier League was UEFA's top-ranked league in Europe. It is currently second behind La Liga.
      The Premier League is, in many ways, no longer a "tough hard" league because it has started to fall in line more with international rule interpretations, and to the realities of playing in European competition. There's no point in playing "tough hard" football if it just gives away fouls and red cards.
      English football has introduced a ton of foreign players and foreign managers (hardly the sign of an "isolated" football culture). Most informed English fans would still agree that at the very top level, Spain (Madrid, Barca), Italy (Juve), Germany (Bayern) are often superior to English teams. But the Premier League is clearly the most competitive league - 4 different clubs have won the Premier League in the last 6 seasons (compared with 1 in Bundesliga, 1 in Serie A, 2 in Ligue Un, and 3 in La Liga over the same period). 5 different English clubs (and 6 British clubs) have won the Champions League or European Cup - no other country comes close to that spread of different winners.
      Regarding the racial slurs, the English eat quite well now, by the way, and you'd be surprised how many English women wash their genitalia. (I suspect your only experience of female genitalia is Pornhub videos, anyway, so not clear why you are concerned with genital hygiene.)
      As for the original comment about a 'whole nation humbled with all this "Hazard is getting to Messi's level"'... Spurs are the 4th or 5th best team in England, and last time I checked Hazard doesn't play for them. This savage burn makes no sense.

    Cristiano Ronaldo is a goal getter, your jaw drops at his raw goal output and the consistency in which he's been doing it. Stick him up front in any side and they have a chance at winning games purely because his off ball movement is godly. Messi is on a completely different level to him though, not only is he matching Ronnie's goal output but he's arguably the best in the world in every single position he plays, whether that's up front, as a winger, central mid or inside forward/attacking mid. His dribbling, technique creativity and above all else awareness on the pitch is on a different planet to everyone else. I hate when people say Messi hasn’t done it on the international level. Bullshit. He’s led Argentina, an overall weak team coaching and defense considered, to three huge finals. He’s won Player of the Tournament for the World Cup. Just like Modric. Now would you say Modric hasn’t done it on the international level?? No. So why with with Messi? Then people will say well la liga is a bad league getting those numbers is easy. How come he controls games against every epl team Barcelona plays then? Messi has been the best for every team, against any team. If you WATCH him play and look at what he's done, there will never be a doubt in your mind that he stands alone above every player that has set foot on the pitch. He’s the greatest.
    Edit: to the people in the comments, y'all gotta stop. Messi hasn't "shown up" during big games? So has every player literally ever. If y'all wanna cherry pick games, I could go on all day about big games where C. Ronaldo has not only not "shown up" but has been legitimately damaging to his team. But I'm not gonna do that because I don't care. Every player EVER has not shown up during big games. It's a feeble argument to try to discredit any player with. Messi has proven that he CAN show up in big games tho (multiple UCL playoff and final games, clasicos, and international games) and so has C. Ronaldo! ...What I care about is the fact that Messi's style of play is more beautiful, engaging, and dominant than any player's to ever live. He makes his teammates better, but he doesn't need all-star teammates to be amazing. It just so happens to help that it's a statistical FACT that Messi is the best, most complete player ever.

      Spurs were missing Rose, Aurier, Dembelle, Erikson, Vertonghen and Deli Alli meaning 5 of them are big players for Spurs at the moment who are hardly on form.. I think Spurs did great but Barca are going to have the advantage with possession play against the best teams in europe and that includes RM, Juve, BM, Liverpool and MC.. The game was so open and that's why Messi had 4 to 5 chances.. He hit the post twice and could of had a hatrick against a weakened Spurs side.. Dembelle was missed because he usually dominates midfield and people forget this. Erikson unlocks defenses creating chances plus he's very good from set pieces.. Vertonghen our best CD was out and it showed as Sanchez looked unsure even though he tried his best but he'll come good. We missed Rose speed at wing back and Deli Alli's support for Kane who had to make his own chances and scored one.. Aurier was missing to and he is getting better all the time. The only teams that can play Barca at their own game in the PL at the moment are MC and Liverpool and both teams are on form at the top end of the PL table.. BBC pundits need to do their homework.. We're also playing away from home at Wembley which is another factor not taken into account and the purse is also tight with the new stadium nearing completion..

    Messi is the type of footballer that makes everyone (opposing players and coaches, teammates and spectators) rethink the way that the game should be played. CR7 has been phenomenal, no doubt, he has shown us the peak that an attacking footballer can reach by honing his body to the last mascular fibre and making use of every type of technological advancement humanity has to offer the elite athlete. But what Messi shows us is what football would look like if it were to become an art piece. Where passes, dribbles, goals, crosses, work rate, defensive plays, even moments of standing still on the pitch are all brush strokes, colour palettes and splashes of paint on the canvas that is football.

The corollary is that the big clubs have never been stronger, with some exceptions e.g. AC Milan early-90s are still the best club side ever for me.
      We will never know how great Ronaldo would have been injury-free but considering how great he was with injuries, I think we can say he'd be on Messi and C Ronaldo's level. A different player and arguably not better, but definitely on the same level.

Aurier was also missing as one can easily see that this was a severely weakened Spurs side who could of easily scored 4/5 goals on the night as the game was so open.. Whereas Messi has retained his dribbling ability, become the best free kick taker in the world, improved his already great playmaking, and adapted to a much deeper role while still out scoring all of Europe. Comparisons of him with Ronaldo, especially in recent years are just mind boggling to me, he’s clearly levels ahead.

    Since WC 2006 I have been a fan of both Messi and Tevez. Truly gifted both of them. What Messi can do with a ball, I think it will take a long time before we see a player at that level. Truly the best.

    Must burn all those Messi haters that even when the balón de or marketing trophy doesn’t nominate Messi he still outperforms everyone and he is recognized by commentators coaches and all his opponents. Messi is the best player in the world and has been since 2007.

    Lionel Messi literally is a combination of Hazards dribbling, Xavi’s playmaking, and Beckham’s free kicks all into one player who additionally is the greatest goal
    scorer of all time. There’s no comparisons save for Maradona and Pele

    If you are comparing Messi and C. Ronaldo in the Ballon d'or, I prefer Messi winning it more than ten (10 ) because Messi always showing it to the world that him and C. Ronaldo not even equal on the pitch but UEFA president always in Favour of C. Ronaldo because UEFA president is a real Madrid fan and him has a share in real Madrid.

    PSV isnt a guaranteed win home or away for Tottenham, especially so since Spurs so often bottle it against the "smaller" teams and/or if the pressure is on.

    I’m a 40 year old bloke from Barcelona living in UK that has always supported Barça (F.C Barcelona) for as long as my first memory can recall. When Messi retires I will cry like a little girl. What an honour we have we can all say to future generations ‘I saw Messi play’

    For me the best player I've ever seen was R9 at his peak (before his first bad injury) he was incredible, he was stronger and faster than CR but even at a powerfully built 6ft he carried the ball like Messi and could dribble past players as well as Messi and he could finish from anywhere with either foot. He was an absolute beast and was head and shoulders better than any other player on the pitch. But obviously Messi and CR have been incredible for such a longer period, but for that short time when his fire burnt the brightest R9 was unstoppable.
