Now days, pot holes don’t stand a chance against modern advancements in automotive suspension. Whether you’re out for a sunday cruise in a luxury car, or going for the win in a race car, suspension is critical to achieving a faster or more enjoyable ride. Double wishbones suspension is awesome. I owned both a 6th and 7th gen Civic. The 6th having DW and the 7th having McPherson struts. My 6th gen with stock suspension handles way better than my 7th gen with upgraded shocks and springs. Much more stability in corners. It's too bad most FWD cars settled for the McPherson. I guess the extra cabin space is nice.

Could you do a video explaining out exhaust breaks work on semitrucks, and discuss why they aren't used on cars, consumer trucks, or other vehicles? Love your show, I think it's the best on Donut! Yeah, tell Pumphrey and the rest THAT! #SCIENCEGARAGE
Didn't happen so heres my go: It's a butterfly valve that closes to prevent pressure from escaping the compression chamber in your cylinders which means the engine has to do work to compress that air on the next cycle. The force required to re compress the air in the cylinder pushes back on the piston which in turn pushes back on your driveline.

When you truly get in to the finer points of suspension (resonance % f/r for instance), things get crazy. Even the basics of camber, caster, toe-in/out, spring rates, geometry etc and their effect on one another gets pretty wild when you get into the math.

Suspension systems that use coil springs separate from the struts are a godsend, since you don't have to compress the spring and hope it doesn't explode in your face while removing and replacing the struts. Plus it makes the struts much cheaper and easier to replace, increasing the odds that a vehicle with them has had its suspension looked after.
