This is one of the most epic commercials I have seen in a long time. Don't think Hyundai paid you enough.
i'm just kinda proud they got sponsored by a car company as huge as hyundai
Indeed, fully rad.
Sounded like he said "Honda" at the start
I actually seen someone with a tuned up Hyundai like that one recently, looked pretty sick actually.
Thought he called them Honda
Really should show more on how TT trucks go through the desert so fast because of shocks. The #1 man at fox racing shocks has recently passed. Maybe do a video on him and his work throughout motor sports and even downhill mountain biking. Revolutionized the game with his knowledge
this is a great idea!
Agree great idea
Incredible idea. Then discuss internal and standard bypass shocks and how offroad suspension technology has some of the most abusive use of shocks.
Do it!!!!
Bro go work for donut already
I had a base Kona for about a year. Actually really liked it. A deer decided I'd had it long enough.
They make pretty solid vehichles these days
Kinda wild considering like 15 years ago they were the butt of jokes
The deer decided it was time for you to upgrade to the N version lol
Lmao I’ve been there man. Deer seem to think you’ve had your car long enough
A deer jumped in front of our civic and died. It hit our in such an angle that only the hood got damaged. So we just had to get that replaced.
donut explains things to us like babies but plays it off as a joke to save our ego. i love it

Suspension tuning is real magic. It can "feel" great, taught, and drivable but actually increase tire wear and track times. There is a true balance between making it work well and feel right.
Right
One of the many ways to balance oversteer vs understeer.
Suspension talks to the chassis, the tires, the axel, and most or least importantly your butt
Glad to see James and Jerry are still gonna be weird car guys when they get old. My condolences for Fran though. That's rough Pumph!

This has turned out to be one of my favorite episodes. As a teenager I had assumed being able to control my car and break better would help me go faster being as our chosen race course in high school was a lonely curvy State Road. 17 year old me is vindicated, man I miss that car.

The only channel where I never skip over the ads. That Hyundai ad was great👌🏼
that might have been the greatest ad I have seen on YT lol
The ad was really good, I'll admit that. But the car is absolute trash. It's a Hyundai and it's an SUV, there's absolutely nothing sporty about that. That paint scheme isn't going to fool real car guys. I bet you any amount of money that pile of trash handles like garbage. And 280 horsepower in a heavy SUV is only 200 horsepower in a regular car like a Civic or Focus. Not worth bragging about. It really was a cool ad though.
@@Whats-It-To-Ya holy s***, kona is an suv? What kind of SUV that weights only 1.3 tonnes?
@@Whats-It-To-Ya should take a look at the track reviews. It's no type R or golf R, but it's way cheaper, doesn't overheat like those do, and handles the track surprisingly well.
@@Whats-It-To-Ya also, the civic is 3040lbs, the Kona N is 3340....300 lbs for 100 more horsepower, electric suspension, LSD, etc... Worth the tradeoff

Excellent excellent video! I would totally watch a whole series explaining suspension, please make that!
This is honestly one of the best and most informative videos I've seen on Donut. Explaining complex stuff in an easy to understand format. I've been planning on a project Civic but mainly focusing on boosting power, now I'm definitely gonna look into suspension first.
Always do suspension first. You'll be clapping cars with twice your horsepower through the Twisties. Suspension, traction, gearing and weight reduction will have you beating almost everything without even touching your motor. Ask me how I know 👍
@@Whats-It-To-Ya how do you know?
@@Whats-It-To-Ya I'd like to know too as a novice.
As the old Lotus chief said: "simplify and add lightness" Weight reduction and chassis/suspension tuning are the biggest factors in fast lap times. You could have a million horsepower stuffed in a wallowing pig of a chassis and it wouldn't make it fast.
no really i'm impressed
Love the subtle cut away from Jerry being unable to compress the spring by hand at 04:04, it was a pretty ambitious move
i don't think he was actually trying, everyone knows it's not easy.

I was a 1/4 mile racer back in the 1980's, early 90's... my teens and after... I learned how to do everything myself, "a girl" lol (great dad). But college came and I had to focus, so I dropped cars and started modding computers.. and I mean really modding them, watercooling because of the overclocking.
But then I got my CX7 back in 2007, AWD... and I started to mod it, tune it actually... minor hardware improvements. So I was back, and I got to get me a Speed3, and I did in 2013... ahh, you can imagine how happy this girl is, and how much I tuned it. "Not for weak at spirit", he he
Yeah, not for everyone... but yeah cars are awesome. And I can cook too he he he
By FAR the best Donut ad EVER! 😂😂😂
The visual aids of these videos are what hold the world together, they help me understand it so much better
One of my favorites yet. Amazing job Uncle Jerry and the boys!
With a project car my first things to mod are suspension, tires, exhaust, and good seats. Modern cars have great hp numbers but not so good suspension. By modern i mean 2010s you can easily get 300+ hp but they have not so good suspension and tires so both of those will defiantly help with your track needs as well as not compromising on reliability
edit: in no particular order
Tires before touching suspension. Having more grip than your suspension can handle will highlight major weak points and get you upgrading the right parts first.
I think you are both right and wrong (mostly right) Suspension is very advanced on most cars now a days but it isn't exactly sporty or very thrilling. Thanks for comming to my Ted talk.
@Jay Dee Yup tires and breaks are probably the most important thing to get so you can slow down and not become an airplane.
Exhaust??? If it's just to make noise, what's the point? Doing so will create issues with the OEM PCM/ECU setup...
And then wrong order... Tires are first unless you are making a 100% racetrack car.
But's ok, you just said it in context... everything has a place and order
ZkybiXD
Well said, just the break pads compound... even my SUV has carbon fiber / ceramic pads and it's amazing he he he, but yeah need driving time to achieve temperature.

They kinda did that on that one Money Pit episode where Zach installs new coilovers. He wanted to do the alignment himself, so he explained where the differences between those things are and what they do
Here's the vid I was talking about: czcams.com/video/NZUgNJjUQLY/video.html
agreed... it kinda seems like an incomplete video to me -- like "we're taking to willow springs, and gonna compare it to prior lap times done in og suspension...", but then not even telling you in the description, how well or poorly it affected the lap time, more less include it as the end of video -- or even better for them, a tied in part 2, they can make more $ on with no effort of creating another idea/ topic... i luv the channel, but this 1's not a pass
You guys even do the ads so well, they are worth watching. Best channel on YT

Taking a left corner you'd normally feel the car wanting to go right giving resistance but instead you'd take that left had turn and you can feel and see the car sucking itself to the ground as the turning GeForces got higher. Still blown away at how safe and capable that car was. Granted there where a few that I plan on leaving regular rubber instead of polyurethane but overall wonderful to have on the streets of Wisconsin...
That Hyundai ad is gold 😂
When you're referring to "Cavitation" around 7:25 you end up explaining aeration cavitation is actually voids of nothing being formed in the fluid, this is usually the primary reason hydraulic power steering pumps and water pumps fail. When those little voids collapse they actually cause pitting and damage to metal surfaces as the voids collapsing are actually incredibly powerful!.
Love what you do Jerr bear, as a technician I usually have a strong "dislike" for engineers, you've changed my opinion on them....slightly.
I think he just didn't do a great job explaining but the aeration is a result of cavitation. There is some air dissolved in the oil and the cavitation causes a low pressure area that pulls the air out of the oil as a vapor. It's not really the bad kind of cavitating that violently collapses and destroys pumps and is more like steam bubbles when you boil water.
@@ShellSide I'm far from an expert on the matter but my understanding is Aeration and Cavitation are two different phenomena one is in which air is introduced and the other is in which air is actually restored after being dissolved, so by that understanding Cavitation wouldn't cause aeration as no air is actually being added into the system. That's why aeration doesn't cause the same collapsing of bubbles and pitting of components. I'm fairly certain jerr bear is correct in saying Cavitation as no air is being introduced to a sealed shock absorber assembly, but he explained the wrong process which is honestly an easy mistake to make.
