Couldn't afford one until my late 20s but by then most were in poor shape so I ended up with a new car instead. But I always, always have a soft spot for these 4th gen SS's. Also, live rear axle, Bilstein shocks and 3.42 gears stock.
    I remember reading a Hot Rod (or Car Craft) back in 2001-ish and they dyno’d the stock LS1 at over 300hp at the wheel. Obviously GM was sandbagging the numbers a little. Very impressive numbers back then!

    Another thing regarding the horsepower rating disparity vs the C5, they did in fact make the same horsepower of 345-350. Chevy deliberately claimed less horsepower on the Camaro for the reason you stated, internal competition. They both dyno at about 290hp at the wheels from factory. Some later camaros after 2000 received the LS6 intake due to parts shortages giving those particular camaros even more hp.

    great video.
    A few nitpicks;
    Unless I am mistaken, the radio/deck was a period Chevrolet deck, so the Sunfire would not have received it - that car would have received a Pontiac version of the deck. I belive that GM streamlined their decks a couple years after this generation F-body was released.
    Also, SLP did the pre-1998 SS conversions - for 1998-2002 the SS (and Firebird WS6) package was actually all done at the factory.
    In your bit about the price of these cars, most of the listings shown are pre-1998 cars which were LT1 (non-LS) cars - these cars are less desireable than the 1998-2002 cars because the different older gen engines.
    I am Firebird guy, and remember when the WS6 package debuted - which is also around the time that the Camaro SS package came out. The inital cars had the hood actually connect to the airbox, which is why the hood is ducted as you show it. I still am a Firebird guy, and have heard no hate on the Firebirds of this time frame, so I was quite surprised to hear of the hate that the Camaros of this period are getting.
    In all this was a great video, and I like how the writing and presentation is consistent with the goofy/loveable style that James does.

      Nothing broke or breaks (easily) and only one stand out part is actually bad. Quality was not that bad... Except that 4th-gen F-bodies were slapped with GM's cost cutting cleaver and bad apples did crop up frequently, although most issues were easily fixed. Also try to be more specific Ford and Shocking Chrysler at the same time were their own issues and generally very good as good as the Japanese even if people though the Japanese were better made.

    In 2020, I was just starting at the post office and I was looking for a right hand drive vehicle to do my route in. On the way from Georgia to Alabama, I stopped at a little used car dealer because out front, they had a 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary Edition. It was the orange with the silver stripes that faded into checkered flags. It was the rarest Camaro they made that year because it had all the options you'd want, it had the higher horsepower motor, the better suspension (it was the WS6 on the Trans Am) and it had the cool center exit exhaust. The only thing was, it had been ridden HARD. Only had like 90k miles, but every interior surface was worn, the mats were gone, the carpet was worn, the wheels had curb rash, etc. It would've taken $2-3k to get it right, but the most major thing that was worn, was the SLP sticker. It was gone, so there was no way to know if it was real without calling SLP. Nonetheless, I test drove it and fucking loved it. It chirped the tires in 1st-4th gears. The dealer wanted $14k for it which, had it been in good shape, would've been a great deal, but not in the shape it was in, and not questioning its authenticity. I told the dealer I needed a couple days to research and he said he'd put it on hold for me.
    So I called SLP, gave them the VIN and they printed the report, it was real, it was built on 9/11/01 and had every performance option they had. I was on my WAY to the bank to take out $10k for an offer the following morning when I got a call from the dealer. He asked if I had accidentally kept the keys after I test drove it. I said "No why?" He said "I was afraid you'd say that. I'm so sorry, but someone stole it. The keys and the car were gone when I came in this morning." He said if it was recovered he'd sell it to me. But I'm not an idiot. I know that guy drove it into the crusher to collect the insurance money because he never would've gotten what he was asking for it.

    I have a black 6 speed 2001 Camaro SS in mint condition. Best purchase I have ever made buying a car. The 4th gen was waaay ahead of its time. My 2001 Camaro SS is modified from suspension to drive train. The LS1 is now modified to 427 and it's pushing 824 hp AT the rear wheels at a cost of 10k, and that includes everything. Every time i get out in public with the car people LOVE it! First thing that comes out of people's mouths are "is it for sale or did I ever considered selling it?" My answer is always the same, "NO!"!! Lol
    One of the best Camaros ever built!! 💪

    The glue on the sail panel is good on the 98 f body’s and some 99’s. The 2000-2002 all used a different adhesive and that’s why it bumbles. If you get a fbody, get a 98 or 99. I have a 99 😀
