Fun Fact: The guy with green skin and a long nose is canonically Ace, leader of the Gang Green Gang from the Power Puff Girls cartoon.
Also a Fun Fact: The creators of Gorillaz are friends with Craig McCracken, creator of The Powerpuff Girls
You forgot the whole reason he was there though, Ace was filling in on bass guitar while Murdoc was in prison.

Fun fact about this video clip. The animated version of the band has 4 members with the Bassist being Murdock. But in between the story being told throughout all their albums he ended up in jail and was replaced temporily by a grown up version of Ace ( the leader of the Gang Green Gang from Powerpuff Girls ) I really loved the fact that they used another fictional character from a totally unrelated ficitional universe to fill out the void in the band.
Even more, it means canonically Gorilaz takes place within the Powerpuff Girls universe

Its pretty obvious that Saturnz Barz was a group LSD trip, Like 2-D finds a cake in an abandoned houses fridge?!, Noodle is sure some freeky monster grabbed her in the basement, Murdoc took a bath and ended up in space... Russel ... of course sees spirits lol... And by the end, they all want to go to get Breakfast, except 2-D who is just physically ill from how hard he tripped that he is just like, just peppermint tea pls...

Tranz live was INTENSE. Saw them in Brooklyn 2018 and that song blew me away (the entire evening was the most incredible communal musical experience Iâve ever had)
I have always been a fan of âFire Coming Out of the Monkeys Headâ live, with Dennis Hopper as the narrator.
Dennis' version is especially nice, Matt Berry's version is ... different. Not bad per-se, just different.
When i saw them live, the real performers were the "opening band" and the Gorillaz were locked in their dressing room the whole time. The screen would show their attempts to get out every couple songs. It was incredible though because all the collaborators were there to perform live. So you also got to see Mos Def, De La Soul, and Snoop Dog perform too

Sadly my experience was the exact opposite.
Albarn wasn't there, so the lead singer was replaced with another. And since Albarn is pretty much the only constant in Gorillaz, with no 'band' to speak of, I was basically paying 80 bucks to watch a cover band and some animations on a screen.
I love Gorillaz but god that concert was a waste.

they sound amazing live as well, so smooth. and it's fun to see the actual musicians with video projections of their cartoon characters, sometimes music videos, in the background. they've mastered trans-lating the experiential as invitation. i love this band so much.

I think one of my favorite things about gorillaz is there continuity, from the story told, to the new stuff coming out to continue the story, and even noodle growing up
Iâve seen them live at least 5 times. On their Self Title album to Demon Days they had the characters on projectors singing and acting around as the actual band played behind the screen. plastic beach and all further albums they played live showing themselves play due to the fact they had started using a lot of guest artist in their songs but they kept the magic of the Character acting around the stage while they play. Itâs funny they have a video of the characters making fun of the actual artist backstage

My kids are grown now but I remember the Powerpuff Girls back in the day and if you notice now, Murdoc not in the band but Ace is standing in now. To follow the "Gorillaz' band during this time was that Murdoc went to jail and asked Ace to stand in. Ace is the head of the Gangrene Gang in PPG. Gorillaz and PPG supposedly live in the same verse.

For live shows, maybe Momentary Bliss is my favorite, not only Gorillaz, but the guest stars were also very good on their Live From Kong concert (not on youtube, but you can find it arround google)

not sure you noticed but The Green Guy in this is not Murdoc, the green guy from other videos. this is Ace from the Powerpuff girls which the creator of Gorillaz used to animate for. During this point in the narrative Murdoc was in jail. there was a Facebook event where you could chat with a Murdoc bot and a Noodle bot on messenger to help Murdoc escape. Ultimately in the end Noodle revealed Murdoc lied about being in jail for being framed for murder he was just in for unpaid parking tickets ( and his criminal history probably didn't make things easier) he was also scheduled to be released soon after he broke out and him breaking out was basically him being a drama queen and possibly jealous of Ace taking his place. the evil cartel leader who framed him? just a dude running a spa in the mountains. It was pretty funny.
one of their most iconic lives is the brits awards performance of dirty harry, they are still animated because theoreticly the gorillaz are one person who is in charge of the music, but the performance is still amazing to see!

Someone can chime in, but is the a part of the lore when Ace, the green skinned one that has taken the place of Murdoc, is managing the band musically during this phase? Love it, but this song is suppose to represent just a monotonous & soulless song for only monetary gains. That's why he's the only one jamming out while every else from Noodle, Russ to 2-D are just going through the motions.

I don't know how to explain it that well but this song feels like such a trans anthem, the lyric "do you look like me, do you feel like me" just really speaks to me as a trans man, there's just so much in this song that speaks to the trans experience
