    The guy next to her is Damon Albarn, the mastermind behind the music of Gorillaz and the voice of 2-D. The mastermind behind the visuals is Jamie Hewlett, these two are the creators of this band

    • @michaelhall8440
      @michaelhall8440 Před 2 lety +6

      And Jamie Hewlett is probably Banksy. Maybe.

    • @michaelspink1479
      @michaelspink1479 Před 2 lety +34

      Indeed- 2-D is the blue haired guy with has vocals on most tracks.
      Désolé isn’t just French for sorry- it’s an entire feeling of remorse that motivates your action such as the line “Désolé drives you home”. I always took it that it’s repetition through the song is kind of a metaphorical representation this feeling is ever present no matter what you do.
      The location is lake Como in Lombardy, Italy.
      I’ve always taken Gorillaz to be derived from the term “Guerrilla warfare”, a method of fighting where small skilled groups use hit & run tactics to hit large, less mobile targets. Damon Albarn set the band up as an anti mainstream outlet to showcase his love of world music through highlighted genres that don’t get radio or TV airplay but are innovating more than major label releases. Gorillaz gives those main stream production values to highlight the talent- effectively hit & run pop going up against bigger known acts in the west.
      The featured artist here Fatiumata Diawara is originally form the west African country of Mali, but currently lives in France. In 2019 she was nominated for a The best global music award at the Grammys.
      She also lends vocals on fellow British band Disclosures track- “Douha-(Mali, Mali)” if you want to check out more.
      The song machine project this comes from a UK lockdown project in which Damon collaborated with global stars via video conferences to make random collectives tracks- The pink phantom with Elton John & 6lack is worth checking out.

    As a french person : this could have been recorded in France but it wasn't! Though we have similar looking places.
    " Désolée " means sorry. And while I don't understand Fatoumata's african language I can tell you that the french lyrics deal with one apologizing for taking their distance from someone who has hurt them deeply, that they'll need a long time to heal and process the hurt. It's a " I love you but I can't do this anymore " It refers to 2-D, the singer, and Murdoc, the basist. They have a very rocky couple relationship, Murdock being very abusive and violent at times while 2-D is a peaceful man who can't take it anymore

    This song has really similar vibes to El Manana. It seems to have a really similar chord progression if not the same. El Manana is like the moody teen who grew up to be Desole. That's like the only example I can think of from the Gorillaz where two songs are immediately distinguishable as being from the same band, and they came out 15 years apart. Both songs are absolutely great though.

    The man in the boat with Fatoumata is Damon Albarn himself! He is the co-creator of Gorillaz (along with artist Jamie Hewlett) and is the amazing voice of 2D, the blue-haired one also in the boat, so the consistency (if you can call it that) between songs comes from him. The characters aren't really supposed to serve as 'masks' there's nobody 'hiding behind them' other than voice actors and singing voices. (I love Murdoc's (the green one's) VA Phil Cornwell because he also voiced Mog the cat in Meg & Mog lol) The characters are whole, fleshed-out characters with their own dynamics and personalities and lives, and the Gorillaz fandom would die for any one of them!
    Well most fans have mixed feelings about Murdoc due to his long history of abusing 2D, and him not being the best to the other two in his band either. He seems to be trying to get better and be more kind (he also has his share of childhood abuse I'm pretty sure) but he knows he's still got a long way to go, and probably will not ever be able to make up for all the hurt he's caused. Hence why I think this song is from Murdoc's perspective- along with the fact that he has a hand in writing most of the songs, I agree with another comment on here that 'Desole' means more than just sorry, it is an immense feeling of continued remorse, and so the song is likely about Murdoc's general feeling of remorse and guilt for his actions, hence why he is looking for the others and crying by himself in this video- he is seeing that the others can do just fine without him, and that is what he is afraid of. -His main excuse for still being with the band despite everyone disliking him was that he was the creator of Gorillaz and the bassist, and so they 'needed him'. Murdoc realising for the first time that the band are a solid unit without him maybe scares him- he realises he's in danger of losing his band- people who he's gone through hell and back with, and is even shown to care for in some instances, especially Noodle, who he helped raise with 2D and Russel since she was 10 years old.
    I find this song very sad, although I listen to it almost every day for the sick vibes lmao (the vocals and horn section in this kill me every time)
    Love this series of reacting to Gorillaz songs! I think maybe if you'd search up 'Gorillaz explained in 5 minutes' (or longer if you have the time) into CZcams, I feel like you'd really understand and enjoy the songs more.

    Song makes you feel good, except for Murdock obviously. Love that horn crescendo, where do you hear stuff like that nowadays? Edit: I don´t know much about Gorillaz´lore, but in my imagination the four members of the virtual group all represent aspects of Damon´s soul or his musical identity.

    Que pasa contigo from gorillaz. It was a dream for the main person behind gorillaz to make a song with Ibrahim Ferrer. And he was able to.. legendary shit. Great song 🙏🏼🖤 you dont gotta react. But definitely should enjoy it. Beautiful song.

    I get the impression you would love Pink Phantom, and I'd also recommend Momentary Bliss and Strange Timez. 👌
