  • I will take any chance I can get to be in the tractor cab. The cows moved pretty well for us! Happy to have them home, ready to start calving season. What should Grant and I buy next?
Send me your favorite snacks!! Or stickers! Or letters!! Or things that are special to where you're from!! I love it all. :)

I never thought watching someone farm could be enjoyable but it is. At 73 it's strange how things have changed. Things I can no longer physically do just watching brings peace to the time I have left. Than You. Walt

My family used to have cattle too, we lost our farm back in the mid-eighties. That was pretty cool moving them in the comfort of the heated cab of a big John Deere! Its definitely lots better than using a 4 wheeler out in that bitter cold. I've always been amazed at how all you have to do is get one cow, the boss cow, headed in the right direction and all the others will follow out of curiosity I guess. By the way, I'm 65 years of age and live in southwestern Missouri, 2 1/2 hours straight South of KC, Mo. I work part time for a farmer I've known all his life who farms around 1200 acres or so plus hay acres. I get to drive lots of great John Deere tractors helping planting and harvesting his crops and baling his own hay plus a lot of custom baling.

Farmers really never get a day off. Winter or not. Hard and often dangerous work.
I'm so grateful that you all do what you do and keep us all fed.
You have a wonderful family and Grant is a lucky man!
Our trick here to get cattle to move or come to you is to beat on a 5 gallon bucket. They usually associate that with feeding time and they will follow you around like the Pied Piper.

  • @bernardheisdorffer5566

I take it you like your John Deere tractors. I learned how to drive one as an underage driver at the 4H for dad's farm bureau insurance in 1977. Weird transmission gear pattern, but it works and my great uncle liked it. He had a B from 1930 and he also bought a barn for $2000 with FDR's new deal with a 50 year loan-cool.

Had the same color tractors (started out red) and the same color cows ( except for that other color). Talking about scratching.....call you local city government that uses street sweepers with big brooms...like an Elgin street sweeper. Tell them you would like a used main broom off of one when they change it out. It has a hollow core and will set right over a fence post driven in the ground. Your cows will LOVE it!! I bet the public works will love to get rid of them!!
