Pocket dimenstions could make this a realistic theory. If Sonic is the only one able to move through a pocket dimension he could travel at any speed limited by the speed of space itself. Nothing would collide with him but only with the pocket dimension around him. This way he could theoretically "tap in to speed" faster than light and travel. he could also be untouchable because of the barrier of the dimension.
These theories give me existential crisis but I’m addicted to them.

Actually this is explained in the comics. He's so fast and powerful because the golden rings he collects and the chaos emeralds he uses have rubbed off their power onto him. Basically he can control fate and chaos or something, but it keeps him from having to deal with that kind of stuff.

Take this example: You're running on a track, and there's a camera at the end of every lap. Once you finish a lap, it takes a photo of you. Then, it waits till you're a bit further forward to take the next picture. If you play these photos one after the other, it looks like a video, even though you looped around before each photo.

Sonic don't run faster then light and that aspect of relativity is commonly misinterpreted. Chaos energy straight break time space. And on top of that time travel is actually major theme of this franchise, explored in many games (classic Sonic is actually his descendent from future).

why humans not run everywhere? well...its because human's running speed is pretty low..like 4-5 times faster than walking and you get tired pretty fast. Sonic's running speed is millions, if not billions times faster than ordinary car. He doesn't even need to run at full speed to be faster than car. He doesn't even need to go at 0.01% of top speed to outrun the car. thing is...we have no examples of creature which has such huge top speed. Still..keep in mind that for sonic in energy usage there's no big difference between walking and running 1000mph.

If we use this theory for sonic’s speed then I would say that he probably is faster. On top of being at the speed of light easy he has the upgrades, the chaos emeralds and all the other stuff to further increase his speed. For all we know, his speed could be untraceable because in truth if he were to go so fast like in the theory it would lead to his demise. So he could be the fastest thing in all universes or franchises but we would never know.
If that's the case then that would explain why sonic never runs THAT fast. He probably knows the consequences, that's why he is careful with his speed.

Arguably a reason why Sonic can move so fast is possibly because Chaos Energy forms a spacial bubble around him, similar to how a warp drive works in star trek. We do know that Chaos Emeralds can be used to manipulate Spacetime, so it isn't much of a stretch to say that those with high amounts of Chaos Energy can form these Warp Bubbles.
