    He's definitely a pro because he can teach as well as work at the same time but I will be swapping it out for a used motor. I know that the water pump will go on the used engine as well but it's not worth the hassle of putting used trimming guides and other parts back on. Thanks alot thought

    Nice job Joe.very much detail
    Couple of things,hope you don't mind..
    If you are doing just the water pump you don't need to removed the phasers..especially ls bank..
    for the right side just stick an thin 8mm wrench behind the phaser to back out enough the bolt and guide and water pump is able to come out..
    The chain does have marks. double link to crank,tan link to r/s phaser and other to l/s..But that requires many turns sometimes in order for all to match. I like your way better. lol.
    And lastly for some of the guys here..Engine does not have have to be removed for this job but I do agree removing it does make for a much easier job instead of fighting with back bolts and aligning the cover without making a mess...

    Technically, Duratec 30 V6 (3.0L) is the most powerful and newest Ford FWD V6 engine you can get with water pump outside driven by belt. It was last produced for 2012 Ford Fusion and Escape. Maybe this is a highly-desirable used car now to transport your loved ones. The RWD 3.5L and 3.7L (F-150, Transit, and Mustang) are excluded from this problem, since it's a longitudinal version with its water pump located outside instead. Can you believe that?

      @Bigsteve123 Před 3 lety

      I pulled all the plugs out to let the pressure off and cut small wooden studs to hold the cams still, I marked my own timing marks just in case it moved a bit. But if it does move, you actually have a little bit of play to turn back right. The problem with these water pumps is that there is too much tension pressure from the chain causing the water pump bearings and seals to prematurely fail.

  • @tbl8560
    @tbl8560 Před 4 lety

    To remove valve cover without possible damage (after all fasteners removed), cut around the VVT actuator seals and spark plug tube seals. I used an exacto blade to cut the soft seal rubber between the seal lip and seal outside housing. This will allow you to lift the covers without issue. With covers off you can remove the lip (reinforced with wire). You'll see why it's almost impossible to get the cover off with the seals intact. HTH

    • @pinpointautomotiverepair1592
      @pinpointautomotiverepair1592  Před 3 lety +1

      It absolutely does NOT. You can do it in vehicle for sure, but removal is my preference for an ease of service and risk management standpoint. If you smear the sealant on that timing cover when you're trying to install it it's going to leak, and the engines come out so easy it's a no brainer for me.

  • @rfreeman37
    @rfreeman37 Před 5 lety

    Question, I assume the only reason you removed the cam phasers was to access the secondary chain guide correct? I did not see a need to remove them to change the water pump itself. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have plans to do this repair with the exception of having the ability to completely remove the motor. I don't think it is required to be removed. One other question, are those timing cover bolts TTY bolts? Or did you simply reuse them?

    • @timowallin8020
      @timowallin8020 Před 6 lety

      It looks like those flats are not only for holding the cam on position, but allso for timeing the cams to those VVT pullys. as that VVT pully can spin on that cam shaft freely.
      On belt driven engines that i have done this(i dont think change dose any diferent). These VVT-pullys middel bolt is freeking uber tight, so that tool aint any good if it aint heavy series...

    • @timowallin8020
      @timowallin8020 Před 6 lety

      My bad. Watching again the video it seems that these camshafts has some location pins so maybe its posible, but just maybe. If that location hole(on VVT-pully) has some play for "finer timeing" (takeing away chain manufacture length fault....) then you cant do that or your timeing is of.

    • @pinpointautomotiverepair1592
      @pinpointautomotiverepair1592  Před 6 lety +1

    WoW too much work.........I changed mine in car took weeks. I realize now I will not be buying anymore new cars for remainder of my life. too complicated and expensive to service. Why would anybody pay 2k to change a water pump. I can change a water pump in my 90s Jeep in 30 minutes for about 30 bucks. Car makers are getting slimy and corrupt..........obviously

    Is this insanity? Drop the engine to replace a water pump! Don't by a used Ford!

    More Ford junk. . I guess I miss the first part . When you pulled the motor .most people cant afford to pay a mechanic to do this job . And as all just for a water pump . Like I said Ford sucks . Shitty diesel engines shitty gas engines.
