When I was a kid my family had a nearly identical car. Same year, color, interior etc. Just ours was a 4 door 144GL.

When I was in highschool, this was what many of my friends got as their first car. For about 1700 - 1800 USD.

In the early 70's (cant recall exactly) I owned a 142E which was different than this vehicle in that it was equipped with round instruments (speedo, rev counter, fuel gauge etc) and not the common ribbon type speedometer. It had a black leather interior, 4 sp manual with overdrive in 3rd and 4th I believe. It was fuel injected. It must have been a rare vehicle as I have never seen one since which I find odd in this day of youtube.
Are any of the viewers familiar with this model?
The injectors were problematic with leaking and the shifter was never right.
I ended up selling it to purchase a 1750 GTV.

Hi Hugh.. '71 was the last year for the ribbon speedo, which was the model I owned and it had the chopped bullet shaped tachometer mounted seperate atop the center of the dash and with external button depression door handles.. in '72 they went to a round dialed dash and flush mounted pullup door handles but the grill and tail lamp work was identical to this one you see in the vid.. they redesigned the front end in '73 with a full width smallish eggcrate grill and wider tailamps which you would immediately recognize as different from the 1st 2 yrs so you must have had the '72 but this dude has installed the R-Sport guage cluster which is different (and cooler) than the stock '72.. go with the '71 or '72 engine for they are the most "worked" from the factory with forged cranks and all the necessary HD components and such required, and the one's for comfortably handling performance mods.. I believe that shortly after these they switched to mechanical FI (cheaper).. the later models, and the 240's, need more entailed and careful restructuring to match the durability of these (and the same engine from '70 for the P1800E/ES).. the computer and injectors are never a problem if cared for by a Volvo specialist familiar with The "E".. your problem and worse was quite common due to incompetent servicemen, not the fault of the design

And leather! Almost te same car as my '71 but the doors are '72 and the shifter is short. The fog lights and tach are real rare here in the states.

Your right hellfire I totally forgot about the vacuum intakes on the Volvos my dads friends 740 estate use to have one. And my dads 940 turbo diesel I think

Thought the integrated door handles weren't until 72. And that wheel looks like the one in my 68 122, where my 71 has a round horn ring. Interesting variations.

Though, for what i know vacuum gauges only came stoc on 240, and the one in the video is made by VDO, but does not say volvo like all other VDO components used as stock in the 140 series

@NotAnotherVoyeur And -71 has black dashboard instead of fakewood. Volvo's productyear changes in july so this may be done in -71 but is still a -72 modell. :)
But great car, in much better nick than my -71 GL!

Great video. The slow drive down the road is funny. We had a 67 and 74 and many more. I had a '74 142E -- forgot they had injection in '72..... what year did they start with that?
