- After letting it sit for nearly 5 years, I'm jumping back into my favorite project car. In this video, I'll give you a brief history of my 1968 Volvo 142, and start the process of swapping the engine.

I absolutely love the relaxed style that you use in your content. In a world where all youtubers just shout at a camera it is a really nice change of pace. Production quality is fantastic and you just can't beat a bit of jazz in the background. Really glad your videos got recommended to me. Keep it up 👍
Wow, thanks. Glad the formula is working for you!
best car guy on the tube
I frickin LOVE this video, the style, the music the everything. I need to see more. Great work sir
Thanks! Hoping to have some more regular videos as time and money permit.
Following closely. 16v+t 142 is one of my absolute favorite setups!!
Thanks, I'm hoping it ends up as good in real life as it is in my head.
CZcams suggested you to me. Not mad at all. Keep it up!
I've been following you on Instagram for years waiting to see the 140 again. I didn't even know you had a CZcams channel till this video was recommended to me. The Internet works in mysterious ways 😂.
142's look so good going down a curvy road. the turbo chugs make it even better
Cool to learn the backstory of this car! I wondered why you went through the effort of moving it up here, but now i get the sentimental value.
Thanks! A rational person probably would have cut their losses with this car along time ago, but that’s not me. The sunk cost fallacy is strong with this project.
Great project and pro quality video. Keep up the great work.
Loving the build, love old Volvo’s. I recently installed a MaxxECU in an old Jaguar with fantastic results, I’m a builder not a tuner so I had help setting up the base file and tuning it via TeamViewer, me in HK my tuner in UK but I’m pretty sure you can find someone Stateside to tune it for you oh and definitely go with a DBW throttle body it’s a game changer.
Good feedback, thanks. I’m realizing now that for DBW, I really need the Sport. It seems worth it to not have to mess with stepper motor idle control.
@@tfrasca142 yes exactly and even better you can setup several throttle maps as well, you can go 1:1 ratio, less aggressive, more aggressive, utilize a SPORT button, traction control, launch control basically bringing your old engine into the 21st century it’s just awesome.
Great stuff. Love the old Volvo. Thanks for posting!
Glad to hear it, thanks!
I'd definitely go for a maxxecu sport as a minimum..
"I definitely don't remember spending the money" 🤣
As someone currently building a B230 16v 92 240 wagon, please keep us updated on this project/that head
That’s the plan.
Ahhh I remember loading that engine in a pallet and hoisting it into a U-Haul truck like it was yesterday.
And it’ll probably only be another 5 years until I can drive it up to Portland to show you.
@@tfrasca142 Might be less if you ever take my *award-winning* (lol) car out for a test drive!
@@FoolishPursuitForce hey mine won best modified 140 at Davis, haha.
16vt swap buddies. Mine has also taken 4~ years. But I've only done a stock b230fb with h beams and fly cut pistons, rebuilt and upgraded head, gt3583r, 4l60e I've rebuilt, kl racing intake with mustang 75mm throttle (so i have a nice iac and position sensor too). I've done a video of my gearbox adaptor on my CZcams.
Rad, I’ll check it out. Sounds like a cool project. What are you using for engine management?
@@tfrasca142 megasquirt v3 on the engine and micro on the ecu
About time you started on this
Now I just have to keep getting started on this.
I like jazz, I love cars and I hope you like new subscribers
Sounds like a good situation for both of us.
Im running MaxxEcu on my B230. The Mini will Work but is Basic and without wideband. Do yourself a Favor spend the Money and get the Sport. Bluetooth and MDash is a Huge plus and you can Upgrade to electronic Throttle body, wideband Controller included too
After feedback from others and doing some more research, I think this is what I’ll do. I really thought the Mini could do DBW for some reason. Thanks for the input.
ah to have rust free cars and no regulations on suspension, wheels, hp and custom engine swaps
Yeah, I'm really fortunate in that regard. I lived in California when I bought this car, and that's the only reason I didn't get a 240. Pre-1976 vehicles there are exempt from emissions testing and therefore engine swap regulations. Now that I live in rural Oregon, the sky's the limit. Pretty crazy, actually.
I just bought nice clean V40, as daily untill i rebuild Lando.
140 turbo buddies 😊
Oh nice. There can’t be many of us in the US…
@@tfrasca142 I'd wager to say very few. I'm in Canada, which means even less. I just did a 2600 km road trip in mine, videos on the channel. It was really cool, and the boost helped as I went up and over the rockies.
As an aside, your videography is on point. Style 🥰
Definitely keep this series going! I need motivation to get my '68 moving again!!
Elite1500 would be my pick. Superior to the maxxecu, capable of DBW, 4D tuning and short and long term knock control as well as a bunch of other stuff. The premium harness is super easy to wire.
This is good info. Now that I know the Maxx Mini can’t do DBW, I’m looking at the sport. And at that price, it’s in the same ballpark as the Elite1500…
@@tfrasca142 Again the Maxx Sport has no knock sensor support. It would be wise to utilise something with knock sensors imo.
Nice work! Been following along on Turbobricks and IG for a few years :)
I'm currently about to wrap up a big rebuild on my Amazon wagon's B20 with a Maxxecu Sport so that I can run E-throttle. Have you considered going up to the Race so that you can add a couple knock sensors to make tuning less scary?
Oh hi 👋. I was under the impression that the Mini could also do e-throttle. Do you need to go all the way up to the Sport for that? And knock sensors would be nice, but I don’t think the Race is in the budget for this car. The channel would have to REALLY take off to justify that expense. A knock sensor connected to a warning LED might not be a bad idea though…
What is your suspension setup? I’m picking up a 145 project this weekend 😅
Hell yeah, love to see more 140s out there! I have GAZ adjustable shocks, lowering springs from Classic Swede, and IPD front and rear sways.
@@tfrasca142 Awesome! Thanks man! So this is a long shot, but you wouldn't happen to have your old intake manifold from your 8v would you?
No, I sold the whole head/intake/injector setup a few years ago.
