Love the car, I have had many volvos in my time, I now have a 72 142E in pieces and a 81 242 . Live just south of Edson and plan to work on them this winter Would love to have those blue fenders(just saying) good luck Rick
They are super neat. My dad had a 164 or two when I was really quite young. Must have planted a seed. Like him, I never felt kinship with the later 200 and 700 series cars. Too sterile.

@@ivansgirl144 Definitely don't ever sell it. Because you will regret it. And then you will have to corner someone in the rite-aid parking lot and tell them they have a nice Volvo and you regret selling yours. Truly the darkest timeline.
I have a 1967 Volvo 144 that has been upgraded from a b18 to a b20. I have double SU HIF6 carbs that i am going to install someday along with new exhaust manifold and also new springs that lowers the car by 30mm and are stiffer which i think is needed because the car feels very mushy with original spring. Although many people would argue it gives the car some character, but i dont care for the extreme body roll.
To further reply to the edits, it sounds like you have a great plan for it. The twin SUs sound great with an open element, and yes, you DO need to work on suspension. These cars float badly and more power means you need to address that.

In my experience you will want to look for rust up under the dash where it meets the cowl. These cars rust from the inside out. Same with the spare tire well. Check the blower motor and make sure that works, and that the heater core is not leaking. It's a real birch to get to and have repaired. Seat leathers spring things will perish with time. Check that the hazards and lights work. The old wiring may decay. If it is on carbs, make sure it runs well warm and cold. These are all things that will get you a good deal if you use them as a bargaining tool. This one was 3500. Canadian. Obviously before the swap and all the good stuff, but a base car should be cheap enough to leave you with project money still in the bank. And thanks! I will try to post a few more as things progress.

Yeah the guy has had all kinds done, engine rebuild and lots of body work he sent me pictures of the whole build looks pretty good, but its definitely got patina. I think everything you've mentioned is pretty well good, could maybe use a squirt of paint soon. Guy is asking 4500 Canadian, but we might be doing a trade for a atv/snowplow combo worth about the same. Definitely cant wait to see some more on yours!
Sounds like a fantastic deal then! You are getting everything right that was wrong with this one for only marginally more 👏🏻. You got in at a good time. Two years ago nobody cared about the 140 series cars, really, but they are becoming more popular now.
So a rough breakdown was 3500 for the car. I want to say the final invoice was roughly 9k for the swap (all parts all labour end to end). And that sounds like a lot. Like a real lot. But it was an investment over time. The process took about a year, with a lot of idle time as the chosen shop had other clients to manage that were likely a little more profitable. If you bought all the parts and did it yourself you would likely come in quite a bit lower than that. If there is interest I may do a breakdown video before the season ends.
I’m flabbergasted that this video is in my recommended. Why? I did this sort of swap maybe 20 years ago, and upgraded the whole car (142) with GT dashboard, decals, leather, and so on. AND I also worked at four star motors in a far past. Weird coincidence.....

I know the legend of the 240's but I have to ask, were the 140 cars common back then and were they commonly modded? It seems like such a rarity to see them nowadays, doubly rare to see them modified like yours or mine. You'd be welcome to have a look at this one some time if still local.

230ft. Little bit of a larger turbo, K-cam, and otherwise mostly just breather mods. It's a hoot!

Looking at a 142E. Going to strip it, just two seats in front, manual trans. Love this car.
