I just picked up the Show 5 at half price. The settings are not what I'd call intuitive but I have two other echos (Dot and Studio) so I was able to figure everything out. So far I'm really enjoying it and you are correct about having the screen. It brings a whole new level of enjoyment to the Echo experience.

I have always bought Echo Show instead of the Dot. I like the visuals. I use my Show for everything: weather, music, alarm, timer…everything!

I agree, when it comes to recommendations. I usually recommend an Echo Show to anyone interested in buying an Echo. I think having both audio and visuals is best thing in this market. I will not be buying an Echo Show 5 Gen 3, because the screen is still too small for me. I do already have two of the 1st Gen models. I use one for traveling. The other one is in my spare bedroom. I am hoping Amazon will be bring out new larger Echo Shows.

I can respect what you are saying about the size. It is easy as a content creator to buy this stuff and make videos. But if the budget supports it, an Echo show 8 would be a much better option. I am hoping to see some larger Echo Shows too. I know we have not seen eye to eye on the touch side of things. But fingers crossed, the make a new, quick interface. I have a dot in every room ever since a while back but just what is the perspective angle in degrees of the Echo Show 5 Camera?
I bought one last night and will arrive today and I hope that the sound quality of this Echo 5 3rd Gen is at PAR or even better than my 3 years and 7 months old Echo Plus (2nd gen) which died recently. I just love the premium sound of it. Lets see how this new echo performs. Great informative video !
The Echo Show does not have the same 360 sound the Echo Plus has. The speaker is more directional. The show 5 is physically a smaller speaker than the plus. I am curious if you see an improvement. I hope you do.
@CraigsTechTalk The echo 5 is now up and running. It is a bit disappointing that the sound quality does not even come close to the Echo Plus. Oh well, better to have an Alexa instead of nothing. Tnx.

Does the echo show 5 hAve gestures? I think thats my only decision point as to whether to go for show 5 or 8.
I would prefer the echo dot because you can play multiroom music while your dot is connected to a bluetooth speaker (like my home cinema system). That is not possible with the echo show (or any other echo device, as far as I know), the show will breakup the bluetooth connection and play the music through the internal speaker. Furthermore it has an ultrasound motion sensor that the Echo Show 5 as well doesn’t have. With that you can cool stuff with your smart lamps. 😬 I bought an Echo Show 5 3rd gen, and with that motion detection isn’t possible. Although I can choose it under routines but it isn’t really working :( Do you know if motion detection is possible with the Echo Show 8?

Hello Joe, thank you very much 🙏 I think you would see an improvement in clarity because of the front facing speaker design. I think the low would be similar. If you are liking the design and want it for that, I think it could be a little improvement. If you are buying it for price, I would consider waiting until prime days next month and get the echo dot 5th and see a bigger improvement.

Yeah, I was thinking about waiting for prime day, the pop might be on sale as well. We have a dot 5th gen in our bathroom and love them. The third GEN is in our laundry room/game room, I know funny, so it’s used periodically. But I think based on what you said, the pop would work pretty well down there (small space.) That is a great price. I can't see that getting lower. Amazon does not usually undercut themselves. Go watch my Prime Day video. That is one of the things I mention. This can always change. But Amazon usually ads deals, but doesn't drop them lower. It could change, but that is a good chance to cancel the order or return the $17.99 one

Just sold off an echo dot 4th gen with clock, had multiple issues where it was slow to response to me, couldn't hear me properly and multiple times it says its not connected to the internet although in the alexa app it shows its connected :(

Pretty good job. Good lighting. At 8:05, your V.O. dropped down in level, maybe correct next time during editing. They axed the 1/8 audio out on the 3rd Gen. So not good in my case because I used the output to an amp, etc. Also, your wasting your time trying to show off more bass. Now, I do have a sub-woofer for my computer setup,,,,, but, almost 70% of people use cellphone, tabs, etc. for viewing. Not much bass, unless you're using earphones which might cut it down to 50% or so. Prices have come down lately, good for all of us.
I just got the echo show 5 2023 3rd gen. I noticed you can't tell it "Alexa off" when wanting to turn off music, you have to be specific and say "Alexa, turn off music" that's going to be an adjustment. You can't say "pause" you have to be specific on that as well.... definitely odd
I bought one a few weeks ago and I can say Alexa, pause. And it does.... So I'm guessing it was an update they did or something
I am in the Echo ecosystem with many devices around me, including my car. These devices have ZERO AI. Sometimes it would say I don't have the requested playlist; but the fact is I requested in the plural form. Subsequent questions on the same topic has no context. But I am still going to buy the Show 5 3rd gen to put on my work desk.
It would be nice to see a true AI in an assistant. After using ChatGPT and seeing how you can fine tune request and build on the previous is nice. Hope you enjoy your new Echo Show 5
$40 right now! DEAL! Buy ASAP! My family just bought 2 of these because they were just $40 each. We have had a pair of the Echo Dot (4th Gen) | Smart speaker with clock but lately have had trouble with the alarm. My wife builds in time to snooze and it just failed too many times so I bought this new Show 5 when I saw the were reduced in price by $50 each. I’m hoping it works like it should. Fingers crossed 🤞!

Hi Craig, can Alexa Echo show 5 can sync with TV CZcams app so we can select any songs from CZcams and play in TV only by voice command.
Unfortunately there is no way. The only way to access CZcams is through the shows browser and the show 5 will not sync to anything. There is no official CZcams support for the echo shows.
Hi Craig, I am think of getting a new echo dot 5th gen with clock, I have the 4th gen echo dot without clock now, is it a good upgrade?
Their sound is a little fuller. I did a video comparing the 5th gen dot to the 4th. It is a little improvement. I don't know if I would upgrade for it, unless the clock helps. I like having the clock.

Does it play a apps like fire tv?
I assume that because my Echo Show 5 is on my nightstand and I only talk to it when I’m in bed, it has no trouble hearing me. It’s mainly my alarm, daily briefing, and my radio.
Ours is across the room in our bedroom and it never has a problem hearing you. Amazon does try to make sure their device can pick up the slightest chance for it to help. This one does a good job.
Echo Show 5 Gen 3 is a good upgrade but if they,
- increased size to 6 inches (5 is kind of small, and they could also shrink the bezels to give more screen)
- new/faster chip for better touch experience (most important update to consider. I have the echo show 2nd gen and its slowwwww to respond to taps.)
- improve screen quality a little. (its a bit grainy watching CZcams videos on it)
- move mics to front of the Alexa (also very important, sometimes my Alexa dosent pick up my voice and my echo dot in the kitchen responds T_T)
If all of these updates were fixed and added to Echo Show 5 Gen 4, I definitely would not mind MSRP being 95-110 dollars. ($55 sale price seems reasonable)
Time will tell, I guess.

I saw this (echo show 5 gen 3) on amazon, having 0 plans on buying one, however, it was listed for $39.95, I looked around to find it selling for $89,99, and this was about 3 weeks ago so I gave it a go and love it, it sounds great, I'm a audio file so I don't use the speaker part much, I Bluetooth-ed (umm, hmm, ok then, it's a word now DAMMIT !) it into my sound system, but still, it's impressive just the same and it being a show I use it for all of my security cameras which is very cool.

I bought it as a bundle with a ring doorbell, got a banging deal on it but only really intended on using it to automatically connect to live stream when someone presses it/motion detected etc. It does everything except alert me, then automatically connect. All the settings are right as far as I'm aware. Alexa on my phone works fine with it. Is it even supposed to be compatible? Seems to be a lot of confusion online
I read the comments on Amazon for the Echo Show 5 3rd generation. People are mostly using this as a bedside clock and with the new clock face its harder to read at night because of the faded numbers. You can't change the clock face. That's a fail for me. 😢
Hello Kelly, thank you for watching and sharing this. I have not played with enough yet. But if adaptive brightness is turned on, Alexa learns the levels it should be at in the room. At night if you slide it up, it should stay at that new level, but not affect the daytime level.
5:17.. Pop sounds amazing, crystal clear, WAY better than 3rd gen. 3rd gen sounds like the speaker has been broken and cannot play High Frequencies
for some reason my echo is not displaying the weather on the home screen, any suggestions how to correct that?
I would go through and check the different clock faces under settings, then Home and Clock.
Please help. Amazon can't help me. They cant figure out whats wrong with my Echo Show 5 3rd Gen even they already replaced my unit. Whenever Spotify is playing, the song always freezes on the last 15 seconds before the end. And its painfully slow even on responding. Unlike my Echo Dot, always fast and seamless. I even talked to Amazon rep and we tried everything and still did not solve the issue.
I would get rid of the show 5 if possible. If it works fine on other echos, I would blame the 5. Since it is doing the same on both. Also check to see if there is an Echo software update before.
Is it a lot faster than the 2nd gen? The 2nd gen we have is pretty slow and annoying

I was pretty underwhelmed with the older Show 5, it’s good to see the new generation making improvements. Ultimately however I prefer how Google utilise the screen real estate on their smart screens vs how Amazon do

It may not be the best, but, I ask for it for Christmas from the dog 😂, and tell him to buy it on Black Friday sale. And for a smart screen bedside clock it’s great. Shame Google hasn’t updated its 7” smart screen for years.

There are some great deals going on
For me, what's most important is the mic. The Echo utterly fails as a device because it seems to barely hear you. Often the show will completely ignore me and echos in other rooms will actually hear me better and respond. Considering it is a visual device that you would be facing when speaking to it, I don't understand why they didn't install a forward facing mic, rather than adding a 3rd to the back.
Yeah I have the first gen echo show in my home office upstairs. I have to really raise my voice to give it commands, and half the time my echo show 8 downstairs in my living room picks them up first 😅
That is a great point about forward facing mics. At least one of them. Maybe the new additional mic could have been front facing.

They used to do dark cords for the first few generations and then switched to all white.

I would agree with that assessment. Personally I would go for the new Echo Show 8 when it is on sale. Maybe pick up the 5 when you see a good deal on it later.
How to set am and pm on Echo
It will set itself based on the time zone. When using voice to set alarms, you say AM or PM

my expierence wiht teh show 5's has always been that after a while they just stop listening to you, and power cycling seems ot help for a little while the problem continues to reappear. Ive had this expierience on 3 show 5's to date at 2 different physical addresses. I dont think I can bring myself to drop another 100 bucks on a 5 again
I have experienced that with A couple of my show's & resolved it by plugging them into smart outlets, then writing routine to restart them once A week at optimal times. "at time " " turn off outlet 1, wait 5 sec. turn on outlet 1" and you can restart it anytime by voice running it by the routine name. Even forcing it to cut it's own power, then powering itself back on since the routine runs from the cloud.
Uhhh, most of us don't know how to write routines and don't care to take the time to learn how. It should work right out of the box.

The 5 only refers to the size of the screen, not the generation. So you will be waiting for an eternity. I seriously doubt that Amazon will waste time making a 6 inch screen device.

Echo dot 5 sounds just a little bit better. I think that is because the speaker faces you. But the screen offers more value to me for the minimal difference in sound.

Great review. However... Amazon products send your data back to Amazon, and do not offer a way to opt out nor delete what they have captured. Same with their routers and mesh networking products. The new Echo may be a good product otherwise, but in a world of options, I'll choose a solution which respects my privacy.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. With all the services your request have to go to the cloud. But Amazon does let you go under the Alexa app and Alexa privacy settings to control any recordings. You can even see and delete every request you have made. I am more an Apple guy when it comes to privacy, but Amazon is giving some good control over the data. They are being more transparent than apple and Google. Which is surprising. I only mention this to not change your mind, but just so other know that the options to control your recordings are there. Hello Ryan, I looked at this device from a technical standpoint. But you have a great point, the ads are so bad. I saw some ad and thought it was a new screen. So I went into home content and every page tab was turned off. It was a non skippable ad.

I liked the big echo show, but I removed it from my living room, because of all the stuff that appears on screen that I didn't ask for. Tv show and movie announcements etc. etc.very annoying.

too bad it doesn't come with instructions since "follow the onscreen prompts" is useless to figure out how to use the thing. still can't get it to do contacts and it can't call a contact that DOES have a number but it thinks there isn't a number. Personally, I think the Asshat that created the program should be fired. It is NOT user friendly.

I can appreciate that. With my use case, I wouldn’t upgrade.
Since the first gen of echo show, no real positives to count. Can't still make a zoom call like in echo how 8. And also no zoom calls out of the US region. And lol the aspect ratio is pretty hilarious. 2:1 is just not decent. They should change that at the very least. And finally add newer Android version with consistent OS updates and more app support. More RAM and better chipset needed too.Needs more newer app support and finally a better touch screen response. And they removed the audio jack in the last gen so bye bye to hooking it up to bigger speakers. Sigh.
I'd prefer to see an improvement in Alexa voice recognition rather than "here is a better speaker" 😅

You can get a degree in lighting. Most tend to be more theatrical technic. The video lighting side has grown. But a lot of it is getting involved with a theater programs technical side. Or finding a lighting company to learn at. I started when I was 17 as a tech and learned the business. I was a lighting designer from about 30 until I retired a couple of years ago. Is it in the return period? The good thing is the show will go on sale through the holidays. You can replace the dot and move the dot to another room. Do the echo shuffle until the house is full of them. That is how you justify it.
After Amazon cut that guy's house off after the delivery guy's complaint (do your own research) - Amazon can go pound sand.

2nd generation mic is horrible, have to speak so loud to Alexa for commands. Is the mic better on 3rd?
I did find that the 3rd did a little better. With both 2nd and 3rd gen side by side, I would speak as softly as possible to see which activated first. The 3rd gen was a lot more sensitive to the lower volume. The extra mic seems to help some. But of course the Mic is not on the front where it would help
