The Amazon Echo Dot & Amazon Echo Show 5 are smart voice assistants which allow you to control them with your voice. You can ask both devices questions, such as "whats the weather?" or "What's the capital of Kansas". You can also use the devices to control smart home devices with your voice, stream music or even solve a math problem.
The main difference between the Echo Show 5 and the Echo Dot is that the Echo Show 5 has a 5" touch screen built in that can even stream and display video. The Echo Show 5 also has a built in camera that allows you to have video calls.
