Perfect.
Hmm I'm started to thank these two are sponsors by sony hmm I feel like this a honest review I'm definitely convinced that they sponsors because he said the bravia quad sounds almost better then the theater snh I'm done
A 20 minute review is uploaded and in like 10 minutes you have a whole bunch of comments asking questions that are actually answered in the review. That tells you everything about social media these days. 🤦🏻♂️
So true. There's a level of self-importance happening that's hard to believe.
Is this a review of the Sony Bravia Theater Quad? How does it compare to the comparable Wharfedale Elysian 4 with the $5,000 center channel? Which one is heavier and requires more space? If I have the HT9, should I upgrade? Does the Quad produce more bass? What would happen if I put the Elysian 4 on top of the Quad speaker and the center on top of the control box?
HAHAHAHAHA
@@techsamurai11😂😂
@@techsamurai11 I don’t think it’s self importance it’s the goldfish attention span
Sony has to be up there as a legendary electronics manufacturer. Not every product is perfect but whenever they hit... it's homerun!
I really think Sony's about-face a few years ago, focusing its attention on fewer products and making sure it's always top performers, was the right move, and this system is a great example of this.
@@robinsonbrand I would like to see a redo on center channel sync with the new Bravia 9 tvs coming out. Their speaker setup looks pretty decent on paper.
Only company which can rival sony now is tcl
The only problem with this channel is that you cost me money by finding products I never knew I needed. Thanks😅
Awesome to finally get some relevant thoughts and measurements on the SW3 subwoofer! Been searching for ages for a frequency response on it, glad you included some measurements in this video. Awesome review as always Andrew!
Drew! You nailed this review. This is not a product I'd ever buy, but after watching and LISTENING to this review, I feel like I have owned the system for years and could walk anyone through proper setup.
Thank you Andrew and Kristi, I enjoy your videos very much. Quality is always excellent.
Thank you!!
Great review Andrew. Thank you!!
An interesting comparison might be the QUAD system vs a 5.1.4 AVR/separates system using one of the affordable bookshelf speakers you mentioned around 13:35 but using a new Sony AVR that has the 360 spatial mapping feature.
Thanks a lot for the review. That seals the deal for me. Based on the previous model, it was pretty clear it was going to be good. Your review confirmed it on all points. I’m excited to use the system myself.
Great job. Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching!
No Subwoofer and no center channel?! 🤔 Hm, the two most important speakers. 🤷
This is for the noobs that don’t know better 😂
Ive had both the 900C and the HT9 - The A9 is better - personal preference but once you used the phantom centre no going back - I can handle voices locked in a box anymore .....more immersive this way
Nice review, Andrew! I sense your excitements about this package. I'm really surprised about the size. Nice form factor!
Love the new profile pic!
I have literally goosebumps before watching omg
Good afternoon Andrew and Kristi. Excellent thorough review of the Sony and the benefits vs a soundbar based system. Agree that not including a sub especially at the $2500 price tag seems counterintuitive to a HTIB system especially one that features such bass-shy speakers. Thanks again for all the great reviews and looking forward to Friday.
What a great review! I wish more reviewers were able to entertain an inform as Weil as you did here. Bravo!
Thank you kindly!
I had a chance to listen to this for a few minutes yesterday. Very impressive. Pricey, but impressive.
The Quad theatre looks amazing. Exactly what I have been looking for :)
Did Andrew just say 2500 dollars? That’s real amp and speakers money
Great review 👍🏻 now i want this Setup for my living rooms.
Hey Andrew - Love the content from both of you. You sang the praises of the Ambeo soundbar a while back. How does that praise stack up against the Theatre Quad considering bang-for-the-buck?
Thank you, thank you for this review. Andrew, you are truly one of my everyday hero's. I love and appreciate your content and delivery. Well done and keep it up!!
I appreciate that!
Great reviee I've been waiting for this one. If I were going to go smaller this system would be at the top of my list.
So glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the extra support, we appreciate it!
Killer review. Way to go. I'm not looking for a HT right now, but if I were, the would be the top of my list. Thank you
Thank you for watching, Aaron!
Fantastic review!
Was looking forward to this! Thank you Andrew for your honest review!!! I'm happy to hear you enjoy the M2 while watching movies.
M2? Sorry, I don't follow, but I may just be having a brain fart moment.
@@robinsonbrand Sorry. It's the Sony HT-A9M2. I just call it the M2 since it's the next step above A9. Hope that helps.
@@SynjynB Ahh, thanks for clarifying.
Kristie and andrew, your the best.🎉you both bring so much talent, passion and knowledge to this community. You tube's true power couple. Thank you again for sharing your time with us all! Each video is a masterpiece. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Cosmo! Thank you for joining us today!!
Thank you as always Andrew... I am still using old school SA VE 705... definitely need to catch up to the recent decade. Regards
I’ve had some other brands as my audio system. I currently have a Sonos system that I built with Sonos Arc, 2 subs third Gen and 2 Sonos SLs and I don’t think I’ll find something that will top this off. And I love the fact that you can control all of it thru an app.
Another Sunday treat. Sweet!
Enjoy!
Great content Andrew! Will you review the Bravia Theater Bar 9?
Thanks for another great review!
My pleasure!
The Bravia Quad theatre sounds amazing. Pretty much exactly what I've been looking for
Wow... Love it when Sony continues to push the boundaries through improvements and innovations like this! Great 2nd system set-up!
Love the content! As always. I am having a hard time believing that this product out does the B&O Soundstage when it comes to looks and sound.
As much as i think they look better with the new shape, it does really make it harder to just put them anywhere like the first ones
Spectacular review as always. Lots of details that matter. This Sony system with a phantom center via four speakers is really compelling to me. Would definitely consider it for a living room. One hundred percent agree on the subs. They need a really nice update aesthetically at minimum.
Thanks for watching, Harry !
Great greatest presentations of this SONY Bravia h t. Mr.Andrew&Christie, Wow, we love it.....❤
Very cool. I might upgrade my sound system next year. If I do, I am probably getting this.
I would be interested in a more direct sound quality comparison between the Quad and the A9, since those will likely be the systems people in this market niche will be choosing between.

Just one request ... cud u pls share your quad settings?? TIA
Which brand of stands did you use?
@@BornIn82 The stands are listed in the desx box.
Question:
Is it only Sonys subs that link? Is it possible to use SVS? Or others.
And if you can use SVS. Wouldn’t it be possible to daisy chain multiple sub??
This new system have same power output as my HT-A9 even though Quad have one additional front facing driver per box
That was an excellent video. I own the Sony HT-A9 with the larger sub. I completely agree with everything you said, and I have enjoyed the first generation of this hybrid sound bar more than my other home theaters.
I do have one question. In the advanced settings under manual control I have it set to High. When I set it to neutral or low, it sounds like I’m listening to it in a tin can. lol!
But when I put it to high, it is the most immersive 12 speaker phantom I’ve ever heard along with 360 spatial audio.
Am I doing something wrong? Is it supposed to be set to high and does the quad have the same issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Andrew and to Kristi in advance. I am glad that Sony is giving people more options for home theater, or theatre, with a bow to music. I hope that their next iteration gives me adjustability in the subwoofer contouring and maybe offer the Quads with a choice of fashionable color speaker "sock" covers to provide camouflage or a fashion statement for the customer to express themselves. Thank you once again for the opportunity me to lighten my weekend!
Did you try placing the speakers in unusual ways like with the HT9? Would I fair ok hanging the front two speakers on my front wall? Do they need to be out in the room?
Thank you for another great review
Hey Andrew, thanks for the great and very informative review!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you found it useful.
Great video as always. Quality stuff. I agree with Sony updating the subwoofer and including it instead of the add-on option. I am also wondering why Nakamichi still hasn't extended a Dragon for review. I'd love to see your comparisons of the Dragon, Q990C(D), and the Bravia Theatre Quad.
Love your channel and thank you for all the great content 🙂 How are the wall mounts, do they mount the speakers flat on the wall, or can you tone them in a bit? I can see that you tone them in a little.
Love from Denmark ;-)
Great review great product. Seems many in the comments are missing these are wireless and kinda a life style product with the design. Basic and non intrusive design. Perfect for a living space that doubles a home theatre.
Great review! I've been waiting for the 2nd iteration of this system. I never understood though, is it possible to hook up a receiver to the control box? Or does Sony expect you to plug all your HDMI devices into the TV?
I purchased the HT-A9 System following your review, and I have absolutely loved it. I have it paired with a Sony A95K Oled, and I can confirm that the audio is far superior when you opt out of using the TV as a centre Channel.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Awesome! Was waiting for the reviews. Have been thinking of what to get for my new apartment and this might be it. I just don't wanna deal with all the wires this time around. Also the night mode will be amazing as to not piss of my neigbhors above
So glad you found this review helpful!
I've been waiting for your review of this exact product. And I'm not disappointment!
*disappointed
@@oblivion_007 Yikes! 😳
Also, I agree about your subwoofer rant. If Sony created dual slim subs that fit under sofas, it would be heaven!
I prefer the A9 size, those M2 are too wide and won't always fit where A9 would.
I completely agree. Those speakers have a terrible form factor. Way too wide. I have an HT-A9 and speakers are just the correct size. I could not put this new speakers.
As somebody who has been rocking a 3.1 speaker system for almost a decade this has me excited. I’ve yet to read or watch a review of wireless surround speakers that weren’t plagued with connection or sync issues. Hopefully Sony will carry this reliability over to the next pair of wireless speakers and their A/V receivers.
Keep it up andrew ... thank u for ur review
Appreciate you watching.
And now that I’ve watched the whole video- wonderful ending rant, Andrew. I can’t be the only one waiting for at least a short comment from Kristi on the next Unplugged. BTW, loved the last Unplugged/ Livestream -
Thank you for watching until the end! See ya on Friday.
@@KristiWright Maybe Katie can take a bow as well.
Thanks for the review Andrew. This feels like a step towards "third time is the charm" for Sony. An included subwoofer, a few more inputs, and a pinch of user-control... then I think they've finally finished the product.
Your comment was included in today's Unplugged. Thanks for contributing to the conversation! czcams.com/video/cuF3F3I_g_g/video.htmlfeature=shared
I think it would be a good idea for Sony to have a combo center speaker with the control box. I know the phantom center is already very good but I think a center speaker would really push many enthusiasts (who are currently still uncertain) into this system. At the same time, might as well have the center combined with the control box with more inputs/physical controls as well.
First of all, great review as always 🙂
Sony, honestly, expecting people to spend a fortune on your system here to get better sound and then saying they can just use the terrible sound from the TV as the center channel is completely insane. People are buying a product like this specifically to get away from TV sound. I simply don't understand it.
Why haven't they addressed all the issues that existed with previous products, such as connectivity problems and missing sound in some channels, etc.? Why don't they just include the option to connect everything with cables if desired to ensure 100% stable connection between all channels? It's a complete mystery to me.
There should be one subwoofer included in the box with the option to purchase another one if desired, and give people the option to buy an additional speaker to use as the center channel. There is simply too far to go before this is a "finished" product, with too many overlooked opportunities to lead the market.
Thank you Thank you thank you! Finally a good review
Thanks for watching!
Great review! Probably the best solution for those with a UST projector. I love my Q990 but this looks great, as does Dragon😅.
i love how they released this literally a month before i got my 5.1 soundbar upgrade rip
So glad you mentioned that about the sw3. I imagined it was adequate enough for smaller spaces
The SW3 impressed this time around, proof that the room is as important a component in any system as any amp or speaker.
Great content 👌 👏
Question, is there anyway to incorporate a multiroom setup with this ( sonos like) maybe by connecting something to that module thanks 😁
Thank you for a great Review Andrew. Do these still work well if your sofa is on the back wall please? I only have a 10 x 22ft rectangular living room and sofa has to be against the wall. I'm worried these might be a waste if you can't place the surrounds behind the listening position?
Great review. In-depth, concise but informative. I have a Sonos ecosystem at home and love heck out of it. The powerful Sonos app is very good as well. But, I love the look of these speakers and if it sounds close to the Sonos system and it comes with a good Sonos style app, then Sony have a winner. I've always had a spot in my house for Sony products. All my TV's are Sony's. My headphone are Sony's although, Sonos has just announced their brand spanking new headphones which I am going to watch every review on YT before I throw cash on the table as it is not a cheap device. Anyways, Good job on this review :)
Thanks for review
Thanks for watching Craig!
Do the rear speakers have to face forward? Or can the face in towards the couch from the right and left.
Thank you for the review Andrew, lots of great info for future buyers.
Quick question: After calibration, does the sony app show the in-room response chart from your video?
It does not. That graph is from Room EQ Wizard, using measurements I took before and after calibration. Unlike Dirac, Sony never shows you what it is doing when applying room correction.
I’ve been waiting on this review from you specifically. 😂
I hope it was worth your time. Thank you for watching!
This is top praise. I wish you could add your own sub(s).
I assume we can expect a Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 review is coming soon? 😁
I hope so! Also hoping for a comparison with the theatre quad. Pretty sure Stop The FOMO was saying the bar 9 was actually better at spacial presence than the quad this year. Not to mention, if they update the optional rears again this year, it could make for quite the competition- and also quite a hard decisions for us consumers 😅
I would also be very interested of the theater Bar 9 review and how it behaves compared to the theater quad . Thank you
Thank you for a great review as always. I love and hate your reviews. I want to buy every product you show. I'm currently rocking a samsung q950a. I love it for movies, but I find it boomy and not detailed enough for music. This sony would fit perfectly with my needs. Too bad I live in Argentina, where it's not available yet and the price will probably be absurd (and my wife would kill me). Looking forward for Kristy's opinions on friday!
The plasma TV comment cut deep....still rocking a Pioneer plasma as my non projector display.
This actually had me wondering for a minute if I should buy this!
Come join us on Unplugged when you're done here!
Agreed, having to buy a subwoofer separate doesn't make sense, especially when you are charging 3K cad for the speakers. How does the Samsung Q990D fair? Will be waiting for your video
What's the required overhead clearance required for atmos? In case one wants to place them on a shelf
how does it compare to the samsung q990d?
I suspect i will be putting one of these in our showroom soon.
Thanks a ton for the review, surprised they sound so good with how thin they are, there is basically no cabinet volume. Contemplating an upgrade from my Sonos Beam setup. A quick question...I think in your review, you said they had wall mounts? Do the mounts have a tilting or turning feature, so you could toe them in? Or are they flat against the wall only?
This and the older hta9 are excellent for console and PC gaming. Might be the best option available excluding serious HT multichannel systems.
Thanks for the review. Looks like Sony is gunning for Sonos with this setup.
Great video - really exciting tech. Can I ask how you run your trailer tests - as in what platform do you play them through for maximum sound/picture clarity? I find streaming content even through LAN cable often takes a while to get up to full bandwidth.
Also! Been thinking about a pair of Klipsch fives or this for movies and music? Given the date of the fives - would you recommend this newer tech?
Great review, and I'd certainly consider the BRTQ, but for one issue - each speaker needing power. I feel it's much easier to hide speaker wire than it is to hide power cables, especially if you don't have outlets near where the speakers should be. The speakers look great mounted on a wall near the TV, but they're not as easy to set up as they look.
This. And because years ago I ran (and hid under floor) speaker wire and sub RCA cable(s) for my 5.1 system, I'd never have a reason to figure out how/where to plug in all 4 speakers like with this system. However for some it might represent a good option.
So is this system limited to single source streaming (say an apple TV) or can it be combined with Sony's ES flagship receiver or other processor so you can switch between a streaming box and 4K blue ray player? Now if Sony only had allowed four of their wireless subs to be used and yeah, subs that are cylindrical that match the four main units.
DOH! I asked the question less then 2 days ago.. and here we are! .. Pretty sure Carl put you guys up to this... thanks for the follow-up on only being 1 sub supported.. gonna wonder how Hanz Zimmer's 'Rain Man' soundtrack would sound on it
That Carl, man. :P
Andrew; where is your profit sharing from Sony?! I loved your review, as always. Am a first-gen adopter of the HT-A9 as My Mrs was not into a sound profile requiring constant change to my receiver/speaker configuration, tearing apart the viewing space for the umpteenth time, stands, wires and (to her) ugly pieces of audio gear sticking out of every corner imaginable. After “letting go” to keep peace on the home front (granted this cannot match discrete channel separation/isolation) it was a pretty damn good compromise for the HT-A9. I just bought the second gen a second ago after watching your review - keep up the great work as always!!
You willing to sell your first gen unit?
So glad you found something that works for the whole family!
@@d.carter3850 just seeing this; brother-in-law got dibbs - that was the trade-off to get the new….
Best tip for those with the quads, try using "sound height higher" after calibration. The bass and overall presence is demonstrably better. Had for two weeks now and have played around with all of the settings.
Thank you for the great review.
I have the HT-A9 and SA-SW3 since launch and it impresses me still a lot. The only issue is the weak connectivity. It's very, very sensetive to WLAN. Downloading an album on my iPhone totally distroys the A9-Connection and brings a sound-kebap.
I don't know if I like the new speaker design...
Was definitely curious to hear your take on these speakers! Thanks for the great review. I know you touched on how it compares to other soundbar systems like the Samsung 990C and Sonos atmos setup but I wonder if you could speak more to how comparable it is to the Samsung 990C in terms of value. I feel like the Samsung is often on sale for lower than it's release price, sometimes as low as $1,100 within months of it's release. In that case, it would be at least $1,400 cheaper than the Sony (without purchasing a subwoofer)... is the Sony still competitive in that regard?
Ok, you got me. I was interested in the first gen Sony HT system but proceeded with my plans to update my AVR and front LR speakers in my 5.1.2 system. Now I'll evaluate the QUAD as a true alternative. Our usage on this system is 99% HT and dialogue is important.
Hope I don’t lose reception thank you guys for posting this video
🤞
can you do a video on the best subwoofers?
Hi Andrew and Kristi, thanks for doing the review. I enjoyed it. How does it compare to nakamichi dragon? If i have to choose one for my living room , which one do you recommend?
I'm wondering the same, I'm sure someone will do a comparison soon😊.
They will not send us a review sample so I cannot answer that question for you.
I’m considering ditching my 5.1 Focal Chorus V speakers for my move into an apartment (but keeping the Centre, SVS SB2000 Sub & Yamaha RXA2050 AVR). This has piqued my interest….would you recommend I try out this system?
Thank You for including names of bands and artists that you listen to in your reviews of components and systems. I often have not heard of some of them and discovered new bands and artists that enjoy through your curation. Being a little older than you guys it is sometimes hard to find new artists to listen too. How would you say the music listening experience of the Sony system compares to larger floor standing front speakers. I currently have a surround system with Large Definitive Technology Bipolar towers that have built in 12 inch subwoofers. They do seem to dominate the living room and would like a smaller footprint in our Livingroom but hate to give up the rich full sound when playing music.
The Sony system isn't going to compete with large towers like the DefTech, but as I say in the video, modest two-way 6-inch bookshelf speakers and a sub are totally comparable.
Hi Andrew, great review once again. 👍🏼 I’m currently using HT-A9 system and I’m wondering to know it’s that significant improvement on music listening and surround soundtracks movie quality? Is it worth to upgrade from HT-A9? Thanks in advance 🙏🏼
