I ordered both the echo show 8 and the show 5 today. I have two echo's in my house currently. Both the Echo Dot. So, a long waited upgrade. The Echo 8 will go in the kitchen and the echo 5 will go in my bedroom. Thank you for the review.

Didn’t have much luck with the 3rd Gen Show 8. The screen displayed “loading” and would not advance. I tried resetting, unplugging for 30 or 40 seconds. Nothing seemed to work. Too bad, I was looking forward to the upgrades on this unit. Back to my Gen 1.
How do I get echo show to display the next calendar item on the home screen. The calendar is syncing fine and I can say show calendar and it does but I cant get it to display any upcoming appointments on the home screen that i can see without clicking somewhere. Seems a bit silly. Is it not capable or need someting enabled ?
On the 3rd gen can the clock on the home screen be relocated or is it still stuck in the bottom left corner? My bed blocks the left corner but I can see the right corners. Would be nice to see the clock without having to sit up in bed.
The cards rotating on the displays helps to protect the screen from burn-in ghost images from static images on screen I'd keep the cards on just for safety if i had one.
A burn-In is really rare I will have to say.
Even when there is one background picture, it will do a switch to the same picture but make the clock smaller. I think it may be Amazon’s attempt to help prevent burn in. If it was OLED, the screen would definitely be flipping through photos. Amazon warns against burn in when using widgets on the new Fire TV 4k Max with widgets.
@@CraigsTechTalk they should do what Samsung did for their TV's by putting a screen saver type of feature where after some time of the display not being used it would switch to the blackened screen saver with only a clock and the clock would switch to a different spot on the screen every minute or two , or the display should be like the Echo Spot which dims down into a very dimly lit clock when it's not being used.

Thank you Andrew 🙏 I am sure it will. I can’t imagine they won’t put it on sale. Unfortunately they will be trying to clear out the 2nd gen 8, so I don’t expect as deep of discounts. The Echo show 5 has been on sale for half off and it came out in May. The 8 could do the same thing
I do not understand why they do not add battery which can hold for few days, to charge and keep anywhere, without a cable.
Does is come with international warranty?
I have the first generation show 8. With my pictures showing, no matter what pic. there is a full screen pic with a smaller pic in the middle. Is there anyway to have just the full screen picture ?
I just got an echo 5 on prime day and like it so far but I'm noticing it's not very practical in the kitchen since it's so small. I'm thinking of getting the echo 8 now since it's on sale for $60, i don't mind the "ads" at all since i'm nee to the device it shows ne a lot if tips and things i could say...
it also cycles through news headlines and let's you know you can watch it hear that headline...
not to mention it acts as a sirt if screensaver considering if you have a generic picture for hours everyday you could eventually develop screen burnin.
It would be nice if it would display a picture from the google outside camera. worked 6 hrs trying to do just that no luck
I want this exclusively to be used as a photo frame for my nan who lives in a different town.
I'm going to turn off the mic and camera.
Is there any reason to buy this over the gen 2 for that reason?

@ 6.22 you showed a Smart Home Favorites widget. I don't see that on my gen 3 running US 7.5.6.1 (PS7561/3832) in the widgets gallery.

I just removed my smart home favorite widget from the top of the screen. I had a hard time finding it to after removing it. I went to the widget galley, clicked all categories, scrolled down to smart home and it’s there.

Glad it is working for you now. It is weird that the favorites widget is not on the first page. You should not have to go into different menus to find a native Amazon app.
Should i get this for my bedroom or do people get the show 5 for the bedroom as its more like an alarm clock, i I'd like your advice please @@CraigsTechTalk

Thank you for checking out the video. I hope you are doing well. The 8 is a solid update. I am curious how the Echo Hub will stack up to it.
Have recently returned my Echo Show 8 first Gen as a Trade in, preparing for the Echo Hub. The third Gen is slightly more interesting now that it has Smart home support and also Zigbee and Matter on board. Will however wait until the Hub is released to see what it offers more for the extra few bucks. Amazons adverts are becoming a big turnoff for their system. Would love to see Aqara offer some speaker/screen options and then I would drop Amazon products completely.
Would like to see some comparison videos of the Show 8 3rd gen versus the Echo Hub when launched to see the differences they are offering.
Hello Gary, I will definitely do a comparison when the hub comes out. The hub has some nice smart home features. Like being able to map out your house in the app. It sounds like a smart home controller and less of an ad machine.
I look forward to seeing that review. Since the press info that the Echo Hub was going to be released have not seen much information. I have several Echo products such as the Show 5 1st Gen, some of the original tube Echos in my bottom drawer not being used. But I also have the Echo show 15 and the Echo Studio 2nd gen being used. Both of which I see has premium Echos but neither very good. The Studio has no hub so I have an older Echo sat next to it with mic switched off just to work as my HUB. Even the Echo show 15 has no HUB so it just sits on the kitchen wall to take commands and play radio, as it seems to be not good for anything else, and never got developed further on the software side.
Not a fan off them wanting to map out my house with the new Echo HUB this may be a turnoff for me. Combined with the new Ring cameras it seems they want to have some big brother overview of my property.@@CraigsTechTalk

Thanks for the detailed review. I'm upgrading from the gen 1 to this one for only $50, with trade-in promo. The improvements seem iterative, rather than having major innovations, but that's the norm nowadays (e.g., Apple & Samsung).

Craig, great review on the new Echo Show 8. I have a couple year old echo show 10, I know it doesn’t have the hub, but wondering if it’ll have these newer feature? With the new thread/matter feature, how do you know if the device your trying to connect will work with this hub if it’s matter capable? Thanks
I highly doubt there will be updates to the 10. It is driving me crazy that Amazon is holding back on features between the different echo shows. Why no Fire TV option on the 8 or 10? They are trying to use those little features difference to push people to buy the different products. It is disappointing.
Thanks Craig for your true & candid reply. Not being able to update the software or OS on a pretty expensive & not very old piece of tech is way more than disappointed and needs to be pointed out to the many users of these devices!

i replaced my echo hub to the new echow 8..which seems to be better than the hub, well depends on how its being used...so decided to return the echo hub, then replaced it with the echow show 8 which the sound is bouncing nback from left and right when playing music...
I just ordered the Echo Show 8 on Amazon last night but for some reason it’s still showing that the 2nd generation is the current version of it here in Australia and I don’t think it’s coming to Australia which is annoying! But this is my first echo show that I’ve bought before as I’ve got an echo dot 2nd generation I think which I’ve had for awhile now and it’s been great but thought it was time for an upgrade to a screen this time! But wish they would release the 3rd generation in Australia!! 😡

Unfortunately not. That is the one thing Echo Show owners have wanted for years on the Show 8 and 10. It is so silly it doesn't have it.

Not a fan of picture-in-picture at all, so if they got rid of it or even just a way of turning the feature off I would consider purchasing again.
Everything by default for cameras and doorbell comes up full screen. From my experience all the video options I picked came up full screen.
Movie on echo show, lol. I just wanted a large clock on a echo device, thus echo show 5 is better since the clock is larger. If you could customize the main screen more, as in make the clock larger, plus add other stuff possibly...
🤣 I love it. That is what I have wanted for years. Amazon has broken that dream. It is so silly you can’t make a better clock at least.

I decided to buy echo show 8 2nd gen with color light bulb for 69 dollars. I just think 150 dollars for the echo show 8 3rd gen was too expensive right now. I will wait maybe a year or so, during Prime Day to pick one up for around 69 dollars or less. The ADS are terrible and getting really bad. Will Amazon EVER listen to us? The Amazon USER reviews on the Echo Show 8 3rd gen is not that good. Many people HATE all the ADS. I'm sort of glad, lots of folks are putting that into the reviews.

I recently got the new Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen). I also have the 1st gen. On my 1st Gen while connected to my bluetooth earbuds I can tap the earbuds and pause, skip or go back while listening to music on Pandora. I tried this on the new 3rd gen and it's not working. Was this feature removed from the 3rd Gen Echo Show 8 or is there a setting I need to adjust?
Update - I just hooked up my old 1st gen Echo Show 8 and even though it's slower my bluetooth devices work properly with it. I can adjust the volume, pause, play, track forward and track back all with my bluetooth devices. This 3rd gen is being returned.

You mentioned that the sound quality is a bit better on the standard Echo (spherical). Do you know how the sound on this new Echo Show compares to the third gen standard Echo (cylindrical)? That’s what I have now and the sound is great throughout my very open and connected kitchen/living room areas. But I’m hoping to have at least the same quality of sound with an Echo screen…without paying $200+. I really just want to see album art while playing music but I’m sure my family would enjoy other aspects of having a screen
Hello, my apologies for the delayed response. The touch part is that the cylindrical Echo has 360 sound. It sounds the same from any position. The Echo show 8 is more directional. I think it sounds better because of the separate speakers and the Spatial Audio. But you have to be in front of it to get the good sound.

Why does Amazon send a white cord with the black device? It would look much better with a black cord.
It is so annoying. it is something the started about 3 years ago. The cords became white and slightly shorter. Thanks for watching.
The only application I see for this, is apparently it works a heck of a lot faster than the slow as molasses Alexa app on your phone... which you have to use to setup... and resetup... devices... (when Alexa loses them). OMG is the Alexa app so painfully slow on the smart phone.
Can't change clock style in echo 8. It's going in the bin.
I have two echo show 8's and I am tired of the constant ads. Yes every thing is turned off. I have gone through all the privacy settings and turned off tailoring ads. I guess some people are having some luck with not seeing ads. I got it to stop for a couple of weeks but now it's showing suggestions of things to buy. It controls a host of switches, cameras, and my thermostat pretty well, but I am done with the ads. I just bought some Google hubs and if they work I will be slowly switching away from the Amazon eco system.
Seems like the ads have increased in the last month or so.
There are some ads that you CANNOT disable. However, a trick I learned that made me keep my echo and not chuck it out the window… Set the language to “English: Canadian.” You can still go back and change the Alexa voice to American. And change all the measurement units. And it doesn’t mess anything up. Everything works the same, except NO ADS.
Apparently, they will spam Americans at will, but not Canadians.
My apologies for the very late response. It is so disappointing how bad the ads are. You can turn off the different screens. But one or twice a day I will see a full on ad Pop up. It’s pushing people away.
The spatial audio really affected my hearing,it sounded like it was echoing.I returned both of mine,sounded awful! I've replaced them with show 10's.
I bought one years ago and noticed I could make the entire screen a digital clock…. Can I still not do that???
With the Echo show 5 you can. Unfortunately not with the 8. It is annoying that it is still not an option. Thanks for watching.

I just can’t see us getting a new echo 10 and 15 especially when all we get stuck with are these ads I wish they would just made due and get rid of them

Amazon is shooting themselves in the foot with all of the ads. Regular users are getting frustrated with the ads and new users will just stop looking at the screen.
It's my biggest disappointment with these. Just stopped using it as even when turning off via Home Screen they come back like a bad rash!
Go to settings, then Home Content, uncheck the ad boxes and rotate continuously and that should take care of it
Same here I have 3 echo shows in my house 2 show 8s and 1 show 5 . I can’t count the amount of times that I have went into settings and turned off every option eventually even the ones I did use like the shipment notifications and weather , turned those off too and then they just come right back with ads randomly and I’m sick of it . May switch to google home or preferably if able made a HomePod with a screen I would buy that , Siri sucks but I know Apple won’t shove ads down my throat

I have only used HomePod Minis and Echos in the bathroom without any problems. I think you would be fine. You might get a little condensation on the screen. I guess it comes down to how moist the bathroom gets. I would not have a problem in my house

Yes it does. You can setup do not disturb times or it will auto dim in a darker room.

I wish it was waterproof so I can use it in the shower.
Just buy a jbl clip... You'll have to use your phone obviously via Bluetooth but the clip is waterproof and super light so a basic commandstrip hook holds in in the shower no problem! It's what we've used for the last 2 or 3 years and love it! I use it every morning while getting ready for work
unless they cut a deal with google for yt and chrome, it's worthless imo.

4 months after its launch it is still NOT available in canada ! And dont talk about the language shit, all others echos have both languages. I think they just need to lower the inventory of unsold 2nd gen. We canadians are definitely not important, and I do understand. A little 30 millions people country that barks like a wolf internationaly but run with the tail between legs everytime they get a tap on the nose.
Still not here in Australia either. At least they've added the adaptive content and home screen widgets to the second gen.
How's the sound on it? If you ran this and an Echo 4th Gen against each other which has the better music. L?m
