DEBATE: Are Man City The GREATEST Premier League Side EVER?

- Last night saw Manchester City smash Real Madrid 4-0 at home, sending them to the UCL final in Istanbul, meaning they are well on their way to a historic treble season. The lads on The Kick Off debate Pep Guardiola's dominance at City, and whether they are the best in Premier League history. Do you agree?

I far from a City fan but lets not pretend like United didn't spend more and pay more than everyone in Fergie's era, just cos the average valuation of a player was 600k to 16m now makes it look better but when you account for inflation they actually far outspent everyone, and why you can't compare.
Let's not forget that KDB couldn't get into Chelsea's dominant team, Juve wanted Cancelo out, Alvarez was 17m, Akanji was 15m, Gundogan, Dias, B.Silva, D.Silva, Fernandinho weren't the best in the world before Pep worked with them.
This is completely false. Between 1992 and Fergie's retirement, United were only the Prem's highest spenders in 3 of those seasons.
Fergie also won the treble with several academy players in his team, with four of them in the starting lineup for the UCL final. Pep's only academy players in the first team regularly are Foden (who's losing time to Grealish), and maybe Rico Lewis (who hasn't been playing much recently either).

It is more than money and how they spent it, Pep has improved almost every player he has worked with, whilst simultaneously creating systems and processes to fit those players. Let us not forget that this has been a transition year for the team, effectively playing with one less player as Haaland creates almost nothing in general play. This has been a cerebral masterpiece of precision planning to create the kind of control that always seeks.
"It is more than money and how they spent it, Pep has improved almost every player he has worked with, whilst simultaneously creating systems and processes to fit those players"
This is a prime example of contradictory shortsighted nonsense. The ENTIRE reason City even have Pep is BECAUSE OF THE MONEY. Why do you think he went there? Because they were the richest club in England which had already won multiple PL titles even before his arrival. So took over the most talented squad in the country which which had unlimited funds.
The entire reason for City having managers like Pep and a squad of world class players is strictly because of the takeover. Strictly because of the money. They are basically a state owned club with unlimited resources.

It was Arsenal at one point and then Chelsea later on. Both very good teams but the competition and quality Prem has had over the last few years is incomparable to that of 90s and 2000s.
Pep's City has made brilliant Liverpool sides achieve 99, 97 and 92 points in 3 out of 4 seasons but only 1 PL for Liverpool to show for it.

The big issue with the comparisons though is that the Arsenal Invincibles, the 99 United team, etc etc, wouldn't play the way they did if they were a team of today, and City wouldn't play this way had they existed XXX years ago.
The only issue I have is during peps dominance I donât think there has been a squad assembled to complete with them yet. Itâs a miracle Liverpool competed with them with their small squad.
Ty: "but are they the invincibles? They aren't even top 5!" đ
The 99 team didnât have ffp to stop them either.
Aye because city abide by FFP regulationsđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
â@@bensurgenor5355 it was created right after they got bought to stop them and others from breaking through the ranks and enter into the 'establishment'
They get annihilated all over the place by man city, from def to attacking, from goal scoring to clean sheet that the only tactic to stop mcity is them chanting "oil money" đ
the BPL is in fact a famers league now. Italy may be back on top as the most competitive
I would say La Liga has more quality but I think Serie A is the most competitive
Cast on kick off is getting better
Just look at the 2011 UCL final . Barcelona didn't give Manchester United a chance . This City team are not quite as good as Barcelona but they are the second best team Guardiola has managed . And without a doubt the best Premiership side ever
In your mind maybe
Hahaha you can see by the comments how many childhoods United and Sir Alex ruined. You can buy league titles, you cant buy TRUE history
2:05 I agree with everything he said. Yes, the club and the financial staff are completely wrong for what they did. But the players have not done anything besides play to their best!
What happened to the old cast of this show?
What on earth is Brian on about saying Fergie started âdropping titlesâ? In his final 7 seasons in charge he won 5 league titles, was 1 point (09) and goal difference (2012) away from winning all seven. That team reached 3 CL finals in 4 seasons (08-2011) and arguably would have made the final in 2010 had Rooney not got injured against Bayern. Complete and utter nonsense.
City are a machine. The club was bought and manufactured for that purpose. In that regard, well done.
However like a machine, in this moment in time it feels soulless and endearing as day old dish water.
20-30 years from now? Theyâll most likely be looked on more favorably.
I said the same thing about Man Utd of fergie era. In 80s they had problem filling seats. Than came the money and stock market and boom. 20 years of monoply. Now in the bin with lleaking roofa and liss filled bathrooms and a decade of no trophy with grumpy fans living in the past of good ol days getting hammered 4-0 5-0 7-0 every season by rivals. đŹ
Look at their points total over the past 5 years. Nobody else comes close and once they get a UCL trophy it's not even an argument. They're still cheats tho.
At one point I thought the United fan was gonna burst out crying. Was like a little boy whose toys were taken off himâŠ..bless
SAF couldnât handle Barca lone bit. This city team would clap manu in his era
Money doesnât make a team worse?!!! Their legacy will be tainted but you still have to say that they had the best team regardless of how it was formed.
KG tried to go into the charges against City but then realized he didnât actually know what they were
I think they definitely have broke some rules off the pitch not saying itâs 115 times or whatever but definitely something. This has allowed them to gain an advantage on the pitch, why this is just accepted I donât know, seeing them get sucked off this much is frustrating.
I cannot stand Craig. He has such bad takes and speaks like he is the all knowing oracle of football.
pep in every team and every year comes with a different system.....he trains many players with different positions.....plays defender from left to right defender becomes midfielder then midfielder becomes striker.....how many positions which can be played by Foden, Benardo Debruyne, Akanji Laporte, Ake Stone, etc.....
cancelo sane sterling yaya toure joe hart nasri they don't like lots of position changes and may not be able to adapt to a changing system......one example is when cancelo went pep take ake akanji or gomes and it's not their natural position.....
Utd didnât have FFP to worry about so they could outspend anyone as they saw fit so breaking FFP (if it was proven) doesnât take away from what the teams done especially as other teams have spent as much and more over the last 5 yrs.
United werenât the biggest spenders in the 90s or early 2000s.
Bryan you are incorrect, Pep is head and shoulders the best. He has not just revolutionized English football, but all of football as a whole. Look at the effect his playing style has had on the game. No other manager mentioned, apart from Cryuff, can claim the same. Sure money played a part, but all the other managers had bag fulls as well.
Pep beat fergie in the ucl final both times
You canât compare generations there the two greatest managers we have ever seen in this league
4:41 đđđ Mitch
Some people have amnesia, what I suspect it the selective type at that. Unitedâs dominance in the Fergie glory days was suffocating and infuriating.
Pep didnât see off JosĂ© in La LigaâŠJose had Barca figured out and came off winning the league with 100pts
No PL team can come close (to this City team of second half of the season). The only team thats better is Peps 2011 Barca team. And that because that team had better talent. But Pep now is the better version of himself. If this Pep had that Barca team then it would have been madness đ„
Manchester United 1st English team to win the treble 24 years ago cant take that away from united đđđ1stâŠ!!!
Manchester City could be the 2nd team to win it in a different era
But it would highlight the downfall of United even more. Seeing how they held the treble over everyoneâs head for years, and now theyâre cross town rivals are within grasp of something only seen once before
@@georgebardsley7129 I donât think city if they do it or united. Will be the the last teams to win the treble
are we gonna act like united and SAF didn't break multiple world records with his signing? the ÂŁ30 mil they spent on rio Ferdinand is equivalent to 132mil today.
Are you going to act like that wealth wasnât accumulated over decades of football, rather then in an oil state?
Football is a game. Games have rules. If you say the rules are not important you may as well punt the ball forward, have a Mike Tyson upfront to knock out the goalkeeper and LeBron to throw the ball into the net.
The whole point is to be the best within the rules of the game.
Keane would break De Bruynes will within 3 minutes of kick off. Simultaneously taking out De Bruyne and Haaland.
After that it would be a cake walk for the class of 92.
Psg have thrown so much momey at the players but they dont play as a team, pep made those players play like a team
You told us we would never be a big club until we won the league. So we did that!
You told us we would never be a big club until we won the league back to back. So we did that!
You told us we would never be a big club until we won the league 3 in a row. So we did that!
You told us we would never be a big club until we won the champions league. So we did that!
You told us even if we won the champions league we would never be a big club until we won the treble. So we did that!
Now we have done your list.
Here is our list for you...
You will be a big club when you win the domestic quad.
You will be a big club when you achieve a 100 points
You will be a big club when you are unbeaten in 25 home Champions League matches. The longest unbeaten home run by a Premier League club in the UCL ever.
Now get cracking on our list....!
As much as Ferguson is a legend he couldn't deal with a Pep Barca & was shaking pitch side
As a united fan, man city are on course to become the greatest dynasty in premier league history and they will surpass us in trophies as well its crazy
Money does not create style of play though. That's why I think this debate is valid
Doesn't Klopp, have a better head to head.
The team that played against madrid in the second leg is the greatest team of all time I would say (not based on players)
I would love these guys to actually explain to us what city have been charged for. Are we speaking millions tens of millions? Hundreds of millions? Billions? We simly do not know. All we know is 115 charges of those almost 40 are for not playing along with the leagues investigation. Im hoping this weekend we can rest all our starters and play sanchez, kane, Leao up front, we can put Fred in the middle, we'll put van Dyk in defence with Harry Maguire.
Crazy that we have all these guys on the bench. Pep always just gets what he wantsđ
If city are so innocent why would they not comply with the league's investigation. They're so blatantly guilty
â@@jared3049 thats like saying if u have nothing to hide y do u need privacy?
@@senti2175 please could you give me another reason why they would not comply. If they truly were innocent they'd be desperate to provide their finances to prove they are innocent. It would close the case instantly. But they can't show their finances cus it would show they are guilty
@@jared3049 an investigation by rival clubs into thier finances... why would they care? Really? Do u show ur taxes to everyone who asks for it?. Muppet. and right at the time when the UK government is trying to look into PL itself
its so hard for people to accept how good city are. its sad really
These past 6 years they've done what Man United has done for the last 20 before. They are only STARTING to be as dominant as United was, we've just switched manchesters, i feel like there's not a lot to complain about really.
Fergie United never put numbers up like these. They won the league a lot, but they were actual competitions.
Letâs not forget that Chelsea and Man Utd spent more yet no one point that out âŠ.
I think itâs impossible to choose a best team ever because there are different challenges every season whatâs good one season can be not great another season you play different players different teams you canât really compare things that happened more than 5 years ago because the landscape keeps changing itâs an argument you can never win City are the best team currently but I donât think you can outright say any team is the best ever.
More points , better football , 3 peat , beating rivals in the cup final , first UCL
the players on the pitch havent broken any rules or laws ,theyre the best team by far.
