I have a 2011 Legacy 3.6R and two of my bolts broke as I took the tire off. This video is a life saver bro, thanks!
nice tutorial. Using this as a guide for my 1999 impreza. Seems exacly the same just without disk brake. Doing it to fit 25mm spacers then wide arches
God damn, the production value of this was great!
Good tutorial. My hub was stuck to the knuckle. I managed to get it with a slide hammer. I bolted one of the attachments to three of the (old) studs, and it only took a couple of pulls for it to give up. After that, it was as depicted in the video.
If yours is stuck, and you don't own a slide hammer, you can probably rent one from the auto parts places. Though, a slide hammer is a worthy investment. I don't use mine (OTC 4579) that often, but when I do, it's the only thing that would have worked.
Thank you for making these video. So now i can installed without any doubt. Waiting my arp studs from amazon. I know u hv the best installed video for subaru.
+DK- 1-RI no problem, glad you like my videos.
Thanks again Blake. Used your method for releasing the hub, nice trick. However on a 2017 I had to remove my parking brake guts to get the APR stud on. For those doing this don't forget to remove the 10mm bolt for the wheel sensor before moving the hub. Also, I would keep the hub snug on the carrier when using the BFH to remove the old studs. Less chance of damaging the internals of the bearing when banging on it. 14mm hub bolts are 48-49 foot pounds. Caliper bolts are the same spec. Do it! Cheers, All!
Thank you for the 14mm hub bolt torque specs, I was trying to find them and nothing pointed to a straight answer
THANK YOU!!! SUCH A SIMPLE SOLUTION!!! YOU HAVE SAVED ME SO MUCH TROUBLE!!!
You sir, may have sold me on the idea of getting an impact driver. Would make working on suspension or exhaust projects in my future go much faster.
Awesome video! It's great that you don't have to remove the hub.
I did these on my old FXT, pain in the ass.
Cool! I hope that this will be similar for my Forester
Thanks so much for the video I thought I'd have to take the wheel bearing off completely on my Outback but good to know you just have to pivot the bearing.
dont know if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend for the last few months :)
@Kyle Spencer Yup, I have been using InstaFlixxer for since december myself :)
Great video, I was about to pay someone to do it. I didn't want to cut a whole in the back.
awesome video cheers looking at doing this to my forester 2001 if its the same procedure, what 4 bolts where they to remove so has a little bit of play to work the longer studs in?
Blake, may I ask what you did about the paint crack on the rear wheel well lip area? What did you do to prevent any possible rust? And thanks for all the helpful videos!!
You are so close to 20k!!!
nice trick with a new studs! thanks!
Just the tip ;) ... Good stuff Blake. Time to swap out the rear brakes!!
Good job! And smooth music!
Great detail to the install!
+3 D thanks dude!
Awesome diy and tips. You made this look super easy.
+Perks Garage Thanks man glad you liked it. I definitely make it look easy however it was a bit of a PITA.
Blake's Garage Yeah, I know. Had to replace some studs on my NA Miata.
HELL YES!!!!! Thansk man doing this soon!
so my local mechanic says yeah about $150-200 to replace that bolt. i am going to attempt this myself. thanks bro excellent video
hey great video thank you so much but you don't say how much to torque to ?
When you hit the lock/unlock my dogs went nuts. I guess this is is the shenaniganz that happens when I get home from work before I enter my house.
Ohhh an early video today, up before I am hahaha... Well.. Not first today BUT still an excellent video bro!!! Thx for showing cuz this may come in handy for me someday probably a similar way for my WRX (even for just a brake change) - good job!! Those wheels are soooo nice!!!
NinjaxBart yeah my ebrake is nice and tight again! Whoop whoop!!
Blake's Garage thanks for the video good sir I needs do this on my 2011 sti hatchback
Would this install be the similar for an 08 sti hatchback?
Awesome video. Thanks.
thank you for your instructions!!! :) :D
holy crap i need an impact drill hahahaha! this was way more annoying for me the first time. I gotta buy me a stack of washers as well. I was scavenging my garage for what could possibly work as a spacer when I had to replace a stripped stud hahaha
So what size was that little both you used to separate the rotter ?
might have to try
How many foot pounds did you use to torque down the axle bolts?
What size are these, because I followed every step and my new extended wheel studs dont fit, so attempting to put my old ones back on was a flop because iv'e damaged them.
You sir are the man thanks saving my ass on this one ☝️ hope this works on a brz /frs
Thats_Ery_Day Life did it work? Im about to do my rears tomorrow for my frs
So...after you put the tip in, you were able to put the whole thing in?Nice meeting you at the BBQ!
Hey what lug nuts are you using?
What's the torque spec on the impact you used?
I’m trying this right now and my hub is rusted on I can’t get any play and I knocked all my studs out!!!
What ft lbs do you torque your lugs nuts to?
awsome man......thank you
I liked! I need to get these for the M3!
Genius! 👍😁
one of those mods I'd do only if I was bored, had the hub's apart for something else and had extra cash just to toss.
Great video !!! you make it look soooo easy. hahahaha
hey great video!! where did you get that carbon fiber rear bumper panel?
Dallin Jensen Chargespeed USA.
I think it would have been beneficial to have gotten a nut or lug nut that the stuff could have went all the way through so when you were tightening it if something happened to threads when you were pulling them through the messed up part would have been closest to the wheel and still would have been able to torque the wheel properly cause the threads on the outside would have still been good
If that makes sense
Is the car in gear ?
cheers dude
Wish it was this easy on my 07 hawkeye but the wheel speed sensor is tucked right behind the studs on the back. So you need to take off the axle nut and replace the bearings. I sold my set because the rears were too hard to switch out.
Evlh4x a little dremel love to the abs sensor mounting hole and the studs can slide in through the hole. It doesn't affect the abs operation at all. Easy peasy
+badams0311 boom!
+Blake's Garage I figured there was an easy way for that also.
I don’t know if you answered the question of the torque speck on the hub bolts, but if you did, you should pin the comment to the top.
Where do you set your jackstands? On the pinch welds or what?
+Rex Nelson yeah just in between the pinch welds.
What way do you turn that nob to adjust the e brake tighter
Righty Tighty until the rotor no longer spins freely then back it off a couple "adjustments" and you can fine tune the cable where it connects to the ebrake handle under the center console
Is this a similar install for 02-07? considering this mod
Matthew Tuttolomondo should be basically the same.
I have a 2002 Subaru wrx , will this setup fit my car ?
Josh Reyes yes it will work.
Josh Reyes did u try to install extended stud on your 02wrx yet?? If so give me some feedback please..i like to try on my bug eye too..
Wait I'm so confused, I didn't think any wrx's have drum breaks?
+Shae Smith that's just for the e brake.
Blake's Garage god dammit, I was to focused on you're beard. It's so glorious
Shae Smith drum brakes can't dissipate enough either
Hey man, love these videos... I got my front extended studs in without any issue... the rear hubs were literally solidified onto the axle (east coast, fml ). Tried everything, beating on it with a wood block and a sledge, prying on a wood block (to avoid the ebrake ring).
The only thing I didn't try was removing the axle nut. I've watched your video a bunch of times to see, I shouldn't have to remove that to get the hub assembly loose, correct?
Again, love the videos. Keep it up!
Going to be attempting this on a 12 STI Hatch that has seen a few PA winters. Did you ever have any luck getting that hub assembly loose? What did you end up doing? Thanks
If you haven't bought parts, just go stock length apr studs. You'll save a lot of headache and unless you're building a race car or need the brownie points you don't need extended.
Yeah I thought about it for awhile tonight and really have no need for the extended studs now. If needed ill replace the hubs in the future. Thanks for the advice!
I have a 2012 WRX sedan. I removed the four bolts in the back of the hub but when I try to work it free to give me the extra space to put the studs in, the assembly doesn't move at all. Am I missing something? Or should I just keep working it until it comes loose? Our would it be better to take the nut that holds the hub together?
+Skylar Robinson you need to take all 4 bolts out of the backside of the area when the axel is held on. You have to pull to break it loose. Then you should be able to spin it. It's not as easy as I made it look.
Okay that helps a lot. Good to know i'm gonna have to work it quite a bit. Thanks!
Skylar Robinson I just did this last night on my 13 WRX and if you have rust/ corrosion back there from driving in winters the rear hubs are a royal pain in the ass to remove. I had to take the entire parking brake assembly completly apart, let it soak in pb blaster, remove the axle nut and use an air Chizzle to get mine off. It absolutely sucks and I'm a mechanic by trade. But if you get lucky and there's not much corrosion back there, you can loosen the 4 bolts, then with them partially still threaded beat on the bolts with a hammer with and extension. If this doesn't work its going to be a project.
chris rollins Damn sorry it was such a PITA I guess the weather out here in CA makes it a lot easier to work on cars.
chris rollins Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a shot.
What's the benefit of extended studs?
Panda Nugga Higher tensile strength steel. So less likely to break like the stock Subaru ones. Also if you're running spacers it's a must and because race car.
Blake's Garage hmmm pretty cool thanks for the knowledge...THE MORE YOU KNOW🌈
+Panda Nugga hahaha!!
WILBERT!!!!
Tbone2k12 Woof!
thumb up!
So much easier than the way I did it 😅
jabbajerkeyz12553 how did you do it?
Blake's Garage used a saw to cut a hole in the backing plate assembly
for the studs, no need for press.
Blake we will meet one day, and I will interview you. Maybe a hug too
why could I tell what u looked like before I saw you just by judging what car u had
jacksepticeye J.r cars are an extension of a mans personality
so much "that's what she said" in this video
+Brad Dawson That's just the tip of it. Lol
do you wrench shit for a living?
+Waly Lama No just for fun. I'm a fire alarm electrician.
Blake's Garage thats cool. sparkies need love too. congrats on 20k
go back to greasing hair & growing beards. Hammering out a stud is horrible practice - yes it CAN be done, with risk of warping the hub, bearing damage, etc
You can get a dandy press from a number of sources cheap or borrowed free
Your dog is broken
it NOT an "e-brake" bud. its called your Parking brake
Mitra Persaud sorry e-brake police 👮
