      Interracial marriage involves two beating hearts where no harm is ever done to either. Abortion involves one person two beating hearts and the stoppage of one beating heart. As a fursuiter, I can attest that your vision and hearing are greatly impacted when you are in a suit. I will also note that mascot costumes are built differently from fursuits. Mascot costumes are generally made for multiple wearers, so the fit may not be right. Fursuiters often get their suits made specifically for them.
    That being said, the character definitely saw those children. If she had just kept walking without any acknowledgement, I would buy that they didn't see them. The shaking of the head the the dismissive gesture shows that she clearly saw them. I find it more upsetting that this wasn't a one-off. This is ridiculous and they should honestly be fired. Fursuiters have suits for a number of reasons, but if you are a mascot like this, your sole purpose is to entertain the public and promote the brand.

      I completely agree! Unfortunately, not every park with costumed characters holds the same standards. I was lucky enough to work at a park with very high standards for its performers, which required learning a lot of "in-character" gestures/behaviors, but also meant that they kept our safety in mind. Every character had a handler, and the interactions were one-on-one, so each was special for the guest coming up to get a hug and/or picture. The handlers themselves were also costume performers, just on a different shift for the week, so they knew what could and could not be seen, what was and wasn't appropriate behavior, etc.
      Obviously, a parade is a different atmosphere, but for performer safety *alone* there *should* have been a handler nearby, accounting for blind spots and ready to step in if the performer had a health issue. I worked many shifts as a handler to roaming characters, and it's important that someone's there to lead them "backstage" if they have an emergency! The lack of a handler alone is what tells me this park has very lax standards for their performers, with no respect for the dignity of the character, and the satisfaction of the guests/fans there to see them. I'm disappointed but not surprised that this "Rosita" has a history of ignoring PoC guests.

    Yeah… No. I just had a “conversation” With a coworker who is from my fathers generation, and I was born in 1986. For years I’ve been to defending this person, saying he wasn’t a racist, just “old-school” and a homophobe. And today, just today, He says things about African-Americans that my grandmother says about Asia’s. And I know for a fact that my grandma who is pushing 93 Years of age it’s racist against Asian people.

    I've been in a mascot costume before, and yeah, you can't see little kids. That's why they often have someone escorting them - mostly making sure they don't step on a kid.
    But the pattern...that's on them.

    • @azae00Vids
      @azae00Vids Před rokem +7

      Ok .. let’s say you can’t see the children and can only see the adults.. then yes you would be able to guess the race of the kids around them so umm yeah .. second if you go back and re-examine this particular video you will notice that both character DID in fact notice the kids in THIS case so the argument is accurate, however I don’t believe this should speak for the entire company based on these individual acts and the individuals should be fired and retrain the new & rest of the staff. I say fire these 2 because saying you can teach a person not to be racist when they are is simply ridiculous

      Certain mascots can't see anyone!
      I've been put in that situation before as "The Easter Bunny." I adjusted the head so that I could see the kids, and my boss told me to straighten the head out so that the Easter Bunny "didn't look sad." It's a real thing for the person in the costume to have to wear it in a way that doesn't fit. I needed someone to hold my hand the entire time because all I could see was the ceiling. It's not necessarily the person wearing the costume that is snubbing people, it's probably their bosses making them wear ill-fitting costumes!

If the overturning of the 13th amendment and the reintroduction of the chattel-slavery of Black people in the US ever made it to the SCOTUS, best believe Clarence Thomas would vote for it. Hence why the African-American community views any African-American who supports republican politics as being mentally ill.

Don't we live in a world infinitely more connected than the founders imagined? Can't we get with the times and do with less politicians and represent our selves now by doing more voting through computers ourselves? I mean they have us vote for american idol from our homes, can't we just represent ourselves a little better?
