Building A Hexagon Wooden Wedding Arch: The Ultimate Fail | Part 1

  • So Let me tell you how I failed at building this Hexagon Wooden Arch. This was a huge undertaking because i had never built anything with angles so important before. I mean, if these angles weren't right, it would not be able to stand up. Once I figured out the angle, I had to scour the inter-webs to find out just how to make this angle work. This was part 1 in a two part series. I will be rebuilding this in a second video to which I will post here when completed.
I used this website to figure out the correct size of my Hexagon.
    hexagoncalculator.apphb.com/
I also visited Brian Mclogans page to really come to grips with the angles. Who said High School Geometry wasn't important.

I made a very similar hexagon, (almost identical size) for my son's wedding. For mine, I created a second identical hexagon to sit behind it. I attached the two hexagons with 2"x4"x12" pieces at each joint. The two pieces attached together gave it great stability. We were easily able to hang flowers from it. It now sits as a feature in our garden and we hang flowering pots from the cross pieces.

I think I’ve seen a few like that. I do like that design too.

I respect it bro! Not as easy as it looks. I’ve been wanting to do this myself! Just hope I can pull it off lol! Salute.

Peace king. I’ve actually rebuilt it out of 4x4’s. I have a video on my channel documenting the rebuild as well as plans available on my website.

An octagon is much easier to construct than a hexagon. I’m finding that out now.
