I bought a Heron White 2001 VX Calais (Series 1) in mid 2008 for $3,000 with 155k km on the clock, (fake) woodgrain dash and dual catback exhaust. It hasn't done me wrong and I smile every time I drive it. You really don't need $7,000 to get a solid one, but I did get a good deal on it as one in the condition of mine would go for $5,000.
Definitely worth owning and driving if you're fine with 15.5-16.5 l/100 km just day to day driving. About 11-12 l/100 km in the country.

We've got the eight cylinder Caprice from 2006 same colour. It drives as well today as it did fourteen years ago and in that time it's cost almost zero dollars in repairs. I've driven about 250,000 kms and I still love this comfortable car but being almost eighty and the wife not far behind me, the rego and fuel costs have her wanting a smaller car, maybe a Skoda. It wouldn't be the same, would it?

If you're seriously considering buying one, do note that they're thirsty to run and to keep an ear on the supercharger snout when they get to 150k km as they can start to make a grinding noise, meaning a snout rebuild is due, which last time I checked is about $500 for the rebuild kit. Apart from that, they make for a comfortable, fun daily
