  • I finally get hold of doors that will fit my Chevy. They came from a burnt wreck, are in bad shape and have many missing parts, but in this video I build door hinges from scratch and make the doors work again!

Nice Diffy! Gott, the rain was woes! It woke me up a few times. My bones are close to the surface and this cold gets me quickly.
Fokkit, that protruding hinge is the perfect spot to hang a steel spider or skeleton hand! Symmetry, like paint, should be insisted on only where it is required. A 3 hour cut/grind/reweld to me means it can fly frightfully fast into far fir forrest... 🤘... where it can spend eternity with the clear coat polisher and wax.

I started watching(and enjoying)recently and have been binge watching this build. Nice job! I used to have a 57’ Chevy PU when I was in High school. Back in the seventies and early eighties it was still cheaper to fix up something like that than to buy new and used vehicles. My Dad called those Screws Butterfly Head or Hourglass I believe. But according to the popular answer in your comments I guess they’re Clutch Heads. Whatever you call them they were and still are a pain in the ‘Ol Tush, for people doing what you’re doing. Keep up the good work over there in Africa. Side note:
I could still get Screwdrivers or a set of Driver Bits for those as late as the 90s, but I don’t know anymore.

The screws on the inside of the door panels are called Clutch Head Style screws. They are used for attaching the sending unit on the gas tank on older Chevys as well as the headlight buckets, and on your truck, the glass channel mechanism. I'm sure they are used elsewhere also. I believe they had a certain amount of torque associated with tightening them. There is a special tool called a clutch head driver to remove those strange screws. Your Rat Rod Truck build is coming out great! I really liked the way made your own hinges... Great idea and a great job!! Really enjoying your videos!!! Keep them coming and Happy Father's Day!

Those evil little bastard bolts are called Torq bit (At least here in the US) or safety torq if they have a tiny nipple in the center. They became popular in the 80’s and are used when the car companies really don’t want us shade tree mechanics working on a particular part. If you have a normal set of Star bits, you can use a small punch and knock the nipple out making them regular star bits. At least that’s what/how I was taught to do them in automotive school.

pickup I had as a teenager. Don't know what they are called , but I had the same opinion of them. Working by yourself can be a great challenge . More time can be spent in figuring out "how" to do it alone than actually doing it.

By moving the position of this centre line closer to the cab means the hinge extension can be less. I hope that makes sense. I will try to send you a sketch of what I mean, if you wish. Having said that. You got it done in a jiffy. Sometimes I feel I am too clever for my own good. Sir, I would like to comment about your attempts at creating something new for a steering wheel. my idea is a rat rod sort of steering wheel. can you some how make a steering wheel that looks like a snake wrapped in a circle? of course I have no idea how that would be done! maybe you would?
