  • Back at it on Wednesday morning, I found my lost door, got some body line work done, suicide hinges on a new pillar, and the door handle placed. Sure does fill up a video fast, and if you all are like me, your attention spans can't take much more.
    If anyone actually read this, I'm considering doing a short CAD video once a week, and see if I can't pass along some basic, and not so basic skills. What's everyone think about that? And are there things you'd like to see?
    Go out and build something, and enjoy your day, right after you watch me mangle some metal.

      I have way more fun building low tech. But know that the high tech has some serious value. A very good friend of mine told me the other day that the ability to switch back and forth between makes what I do easier to understand, I'm planning an entire series of weekly videos to show more CAD work and high tech stuff, to hopefully help open doors for people to be able to make use of the tools people have in their own communities. Pretty much every guy with a plasma table will cut your brackets if you give him a file. I want to make that easier for people.

Still suffering from poor sound... you need a mic on yourself or one of those big fluffy jobs so we can still hear you when you turn away or the camera is further back. • @LiveOff-Road
    @LiveOff-Road Před 2 lety +2

    I appreciate your ability to know when something is good enough for what it is. I’ve followed your work since the Pirate4x4 days. Like you I really enjoy designing things in CAD, but sometimes that ability combined with my personality stifles creativity and progress in a free form way. It’s hard to convince the mind that not every project needs to be designed for production and to be easily repeatable by any fool. Repeatability and accuracy is great, but will often never pay for its time/intention cost in a project that’s only getting built once. I could have spent a whole day making a fixture for your hinges that would ensure their linearity and would consider it bonus points for making it applicable to the other side of the car… but in reality you’re not a fool who can’t with some effort sneak up on good enough without all the planning, and the effort spent chasing perfection and repeatability would probably not pay off against utilizing your talent to make it good enough on one side and repeating it for good enough on the other side. Such pursuits can suck me down the rabbit hole so bad that I get stuck in analysis paralysis and project burnout.
    I wish I could have a bit more of the artists mind sometimes, and hopefully following you show your mix of styles/talents can teach me something and inspire me to take these projects a little more for what they are and need to be.
    Thanks!

    • @kingofbootyfab
      @kingofbootyfab  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, I've been making bad decisions for a real long time 🤣
      This project is super healthy for me, because I seriously get what you're saying. I went into this with the complete expectation that is was just a pile of junk, and who cares. I've built so many things where I worry about repeating the hinge bolt patterns if it ever needs repair, and skip over the fact that I'd have to find a set of 38 doors first.
      Hands down, this is one of the most fun projects I've ever done. But pretty quick it will bring out the tools, we're building the beadroller and belt grinder I designed, and I've got some cool stuff on the way, the TIG will get wired....I can wait to see it roll

    • @kingofbootyfab
      @kingofbootyfab  Před 2 lety +2

      I could still point the handle forward. I'm not completely sold either direction. And I hear you about the windows, but once I had sectioned them, proportionally, they where all wrong. I actually built one side with the window originally, and it was almost a kidney bean, and just deterred from what I wanted. The 39 beside it still has them so it made what I saw even worse.
