CHASING CLASSIC CARS IN AFRICA - BARN FIND!

- Join me as I chase classic cars in the towns of the Great Karoo. We find old tractors, vintage cars and classic trucks in various states of repair. Some are too far gone to bring back to life and others are not what I'm looking for. After driving hundreds of kilometres and visiting many small towns, I'm close to giving up... Then I stumble upon an amazing barn find!

Thank you Div for showing us the incredible scenery in this video, things I have not seen nor will see in person. Great stuff
what a beautifull country TY Div for the grand tour,,its stunning crossing the river 25 times through the valley...the car id be concerned about bits missing before you can go pick it up. cheers mate..
Great video. I enjoy your road trips and commentary and learning about your beautiful surprising country. This is my new favourite channel, thanks Div.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Fun trip around South Africa!!
WOW
Very interesting keep it up
Very Much Enjoyed your Road trip! I Laughed Remembering when I got Home from overseas, Took a drive at night and after about 20 miles I Realized the signs were curiously backwards and I just barely avoided an extremely abrupt meeting with an eighteen wheeler as I was a bit too accustomed to driving on the left. South Africa looks like a place I would really enjoy riding my old Harley!
Thanks! You would love riding the Harley here! Some amazing roads
Good to See You, Thank You So Much for the Road Trip Across a Small Portion of South Africa.
Wau good one
Totally cool with pink Floyd yeeeeeeeeeepppppp
Yeah man!
Lots of beautiful vintage tin..
What a fantastic country to drive around. The mountains are spectacular and abit scary! Wow 50s Fairlane it's gotta be the only one left. It would be a very valuable addition to your garage!
@ 14:05 that's a '38(?)-'42 FORD "big truck". (The trucks weren't actually larger but the front grill and running gear was different from the '39-'40 "small series" version, which were VERY popular trucks to 'rod stateside, [I hear Chevy S-10 mini-truck frames fit them ok,]). Get it if you can please! Also, was there no windshield wiper motor on that '58?!? All I saw was the hood latch! That's so cool!!
Very cool find
Glad you were able to get that car that would be awesome to see you bring the old girl home
Unfortunately it turned out that the car is part of a complex estate case which might take years to resolve...😪
Now that's a true barn find Awesome
I really like it when you take us with you on your road trips, I'm from Nova Scotia Canada & I like seeing the landscape in South Africa...🙂 love your show man...👍👊
Thank you!
Full size 58 Ford they were popular in NZ years ago but Ive never seen a 6 cylinder car all our local assembly cars had V8s
Thank you talking us along , wow love the birds,
I had a 1958 Ford Fair-lane Convertible, with a V8 352 police interceptor motor.
I took the automatic out and put in a Cadillac lascal standard Transmission.
Nice ....pity its not a V8 ...but its still beautiful ! Come visit us in Zastron next time and we will show you our old cars and stuff ! Just ask for JANHOENDER , in the main street lol
Would love to! A looong way though...
Thanks for sharing, text me back to my childhood. I’m 68 years old and my father had a green 1958 Ford two door three speed on a column six cylinder just like the one you showed except our steering wheel here in the states is on the other side
David. Brown bought out Aston Martin and Lagonda in the early 50's and built the Db series Aston Martin.Db5 the original James' Bond car.
Interesting!
That David brown is an english built tractor.
Thanks for the trip around part of your great country. Wow, what a find, I've never even seen a picture of that model Fairlane. Thanks Div.
l had the Australian 1960 fairlane many moons ago. it had 332 ci v8 the front on the Afican model is quite different. that one is a great find.
Wow so beautiful !!!! Awesome world that you live in
Hey Div, I know I am a year behind! Just watched this and interested in seeing if you pick up the Fairlane in the next video, so off I go looking....
Unfortunately I didn't get it😪
Would be Awesome to see a 1958 ford fairlane hopefully will see him doing a restoration
Very interesting Road trip bro, it's very similar to driving in out back Australia. The overhanging rocks as you drove through the pass, keeping watch for falling rocks would be daunting.
What a score the 58 compact fairlane, so rare even in Australia or the states for that matter. Grooving to Pink Floyd on your stereo what a buzz. RHD so good to see, got to get over for a look see.
Come! I'll play you some Pink Floyd 😂 Unfortunately I didn't get the Fairlane, tied up in complicated unfinished estate. Those things can take years to resolve...😪
The body looks in good shape, they usually rust out around headlights.
Looks like my roadtrips😂 you been to Bowes dorp NC. There's lots...
Never even knew such a place existed!
Just outside Bitterfontein....old car graveyard. Lots 2 see.
@desreliebenberg9301 Yes, looked it up. Gonna have to visit one day. Thanks
Fair lane, your doing great mate, nice find. Thanks for the site seeing, saved me a lot of money on a trip, more money for old junk, beautiful country. Cheers.
Thanks Rock. You still gotta do the trip man, nothing like the real thing!😀
Beautiful car, like to see it back on the road ⚡️
i really liked your road trip and hope you pick up that 58 soon. I'm in Canada and our classics tend to be a little more rusty. BTW maybe your David Brown tractor comment was tongue in cheek but, for those not aware, that David Brown got on to Aston Martin....that's where the DB designation of their cars started...another supercar marque associated with tractor manufacture!
It’s a fairlane that you can drive on a four lane.
Can't wait to see the new video of you fetching that Fairlane!
Unfortunately the Fairlane is stuck in a complex will that might take years to resolve...
Enjoyed it fairlane
Dankie vir die great storie!
Bly jy het geniet. Lekker om te hoor julle kyk daar vanuit Aus!
Thanks
That old Fairlane is cool it looks like it is great shape too. It's got the old mileage maker six the 223ci or in metric the 3.7 liter engine What a awesome barn fine
Yes, awesome car. Unfortunately it turned out to be stuck in a will thats not concluded yet, might still take years...
SA looks like South Australia or western New South Wales
Beautiful scenery awesome adventure as always !!!
Cool video my brother has a 58 Ford custom 300 two door sedan.
cool video
My parents had a 58 Ranch Wagon when I was a kid - six cylinder with three-speed column shift, but I don't remember the aircleaner looking anything like that. Of course I don't have any photos, but maybe the Export cars or African Fords got different air cleaners?? Anybody got any idea? IIRC the air cleaner our Ranch wagon had was round and sat horizontally on top of the carburetor.
In some of our western states in the US, three trailers are towed behind the semi tractor. Probably 80 feet long. Maybe more.
Just watched George car show and seen 2 holdens hq and hz are there many Aussie cars there keep up the good work 👍
Yes, there are actually quite a lot of older Aussie cars around in South Africa. Sometimes with different names though. Like the Chev El Camino pickup. I think you guys called the Holden Ute?
Lekker!!!
Dankie man!
9:33 to 9:45 What kind of trees are those on the left side of the road? I am not a Ford fan, but that Fairlane is badass!!
I dont know unfortunately. Interesting though!
@@ratrodsafrica Well, dammit! 😄
Olá.
Essa mão de direção é boa para andar com a sogra, em ruas com bastante carretas no sentido contrário.
Abraços.
Vc que é feliz.
Dá uma voltinha e acha esses projetos maravilhosos.
Aqui no Brasil. Acabaram os carros para fazer os projetos.
Another great vid, subscribed from New Zealand.
Thanks mate! Greetings to the Kiwis!
great buy!!
Thanks for the input! Hoping to go fetch it this weekend!
@@divdevilliers4875 she looks like an unmolested proper barn find... lets see what is reveled in the next episode
@@StreetTruckGarageJa, very excited! I can't wait to get her out of the barn and take a good look. Dim light and a lot of dust...
Thanks
Absolutely beautiful!
I have a question my daughter collects license plates and I thought it would be wonderful to start getting some from other countries. I have a Michigan I believe 1929 plate I would send you if you’d be interested in a trade. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Send me a mail at ratrods4africa@gmail.com
David Brown is Aston Martin! That is where the DB prefix comes from on all Astons since the 1950s.
Interesting! Thanks for the info
Netjies Div!!
Dankie Jacques. Maak draai by jou Sondag.
Mooi man , nou wag ons vir part 2
Dankie Manie. Hoop om daai beauty hierdie naweek te gaan haal...
Thanks
We're you able to purchase that Fairlane
Baie geluk wat n fonds.....
part 2?
Unfortunately it turned out that the car is stuck in a complex deceased estate case. Might take years to resolve...
15:15 Daii chevy is soos om 'n kers geskenk oop te maak
Praat jy! Ongelukkig later uitgevind die kar sit in boedelsaak wat jare gaan vat om uit te sort😥
Great find!
We're these American cars built in South Africa converted to RHD?, shipped over in knock down kits? What's the story on them?
Beautiful drive through the mountains BTW!
Ford opened a factory in South Africa in 1926. As far as I can find out, many parts were shipped out from the States but the vehicles were factory assembled as RHD.
A little constructive criticism mate, the background music was loud enough to be foreground music & it was difficult to understand what you were saying a lot of the time.
Thanks mate. Yes, I learned since then😅 My more recent videos should be better!
Hallo hoe kan ek n Toyota MR 2 MK1 vind in so manier
Maar net aanhou soek...

😄
Bro the music is too much.
Yes, old video... I've learned since then...😅
