  • Continuing the 1951 Chevy Budget Rat Truck build, its time to build a custom load bed. We go for a short drive to scavenge the panels from a Ford F250 truck! Will my plan work?

I love this because to me this is how a rat is made. The hood is borrowed so the box and fenders should be too. My first thought was to put the box sides on inside out so the rust was outside. You'd have to cut the top part off because the angle would be going the wrong way. That would really have ppl guessing what those panels came from. It wouldn't be as tall then either though. But I'm enjoying your channel a great deal Diff. Keep up the good work 👍

im glad you went with the running boards. with most cutomizers the boards are the first thing to go. But to me they look better with them on. it gives it a bygone classy look and fills the build out. makeing look wider and meaner. the countryside over there looks like England. wow i thought it would be all dusty and dry with little vegatation. Your English is great mate. you speak it better than some of us over here in England. that line is bang on fits the cab lines perfectly. you have a good eye

    Hey Dif,
In the States we got a Ford Courier, but it was built in Japan by Mazda(Which Ford still owns a piece of) and imported until 1982. Then in 1983 we got the Ford Ranger, which was built here until 2012, when it left out market. And was started to be produced in South Africa, Argentina, and Thailand for the model year 2013. Now the Ranger came back to the North American market 2019, and was produced again in Wayne Michigan. I'm a Ford truck fan boy even thou I can't afford one, at least a new one. I'm working on my 1946, which I think that I might turn into a 1940/41, because to me everything before 1941 were some of the best looking trucks, then you have to jump to 1949 when they introduced the F-series, which was great looking until 1956, then someone hit them with the ugly stick from 1957 to 1960. Then then created one of the most weird trucks, the Unibody F-series from 1961 to 63. Which in a way was kind of cool. Then in 1967 to 1979 went back to what I would say is one of the best body styles since the 1956 pickup. Then again in 1980 to current, they only have a face a mother could love. Not that I wouldn't take a new Ford F-150 Lighting if someone gave it to me. But it just does not have the style of the other years of trucks.
    Bart

    Hi Duff
If you can find another set of beetle fenders
You can weld them fro to back back to front
And it will give you the width needed to resemble original
Also the Ford quarters flip them around
And the bevel in the middle will arch
Outwards and take away the ford truck look

So anyway i don't know about building Rat Rods. But to me in the humblest way Dif, it looks like that the line to have the back tied in with is the bottom of the door window me finks. Maybe worth a quick adjustment just to see that I'm completely wrong?!.

I was a dispatch rider down in London in my youf. And we all had black bikes, black leathers, gloves, helmets. WD40 the number plate once a week to catch all the shit the London buses and Black cabs was kicking out, so that the number plate couldn't be read.
Two inches sawn off both sides of the handlebars and switch gear moved inwards. The coppers didn't know who was who, nor could they catch us cos off the gaps we could squeeze through. Good times man.

      CHICKEN COURIER
      I remember back well,
      flying all around,
      our capital city,
      earning some pound.
Me mate talked me into it,
      7 years the professional,
      walking A-Z that boy,
      so ears my confessional.
      Quite naughty back then,
      not girlfriends mum's like,
      waltzing round London,
      on a fast motorbike.
      Delivering anything,
      that'd fit on my steed,
      collect from the punter,
      take where they need.
      Once had a chinwag,
      with one called Kate Bush,
      autograph all signed up,
      my birds hero, all tush.
      Didn't let her know like,
      compliments bin delivered,
remember you from top of pops,
      you must surely of shivered.
      Look at you now,
      20 years from 1st hits,
      filled out just fine love,
      wow great pair of tits.
Think i got a fan for life,
as she beamed out her smile,
      now this here's my number,
don't be too shy to dial.
But back to the every day,
      all weathers were found,
      all covered in black,
      just earning there pound.
      Often coffee on Monday,
      dark times would land,
      hear about long gone,
got it wrong on The Strand.
      Races would happen,
      just with a look,
      we all looked alike then,
      we all under took.
      Chain lube the number plate,
      collecting the shit,
      no one could read um,
      no 3 points would hit.
      Handlebars sawn off,
      2 inches each side,
      coppers can't get through,
      the gaps we would glide.
      What about cameras,
      there right on there game,
      makes no dam difference,
when you all look the same.
      Of course we had enemys,
      wernt all plain to sail,
      we called um red devils,
      you know royal mail.
The fun that we had tho,
      a right propa blast,
      upto 70 round town,
      outside was yeah fast.
      Twas a leap of faith,
      just ignoring the fear,
      the faster you go,
      the more gaps appear.
      It was just so amazing,
      adrenaline central,
      if you aint tried it,
      its just propa mental.
      The summer was lovely,
      scanty clad galore,
      look for excuses,
to get sun on there pore.
      Night lifes to die for,
      pubs and the rest,
      rave clubs all packed out,
      with Sheila's half dressed.
      Plenty of times,
      only had an hours kip,
      out all night clubbing,
      Then through traffic I'd slip.
      Always amazed me,
      from all countries they piled,
      headed to London,
      all people just smiled.
      Sometimes were serious,
      not always just fun,
      carrying organs donated,
      known as the blood run.
      But mainly documents,
      legal need signed,
      wait and return boy,
      both ways paid kind.
But it all went a bit quiet,
      the dispatch rider scene,
      when some burk invented,
      that dam fax machine 😎

I like the plan, the tall box might be great for parts hauling one day, and yes, we in the US had a Ford courier, it was replaced by the ranger when the full size truck was changed to the F150, F250 and on up the gvw scale,

Steel prices there seem pretty comparable to what they are here in the states. As far as the price of petrol , it has gone down to $3.59 per US gallon (in my area) The little red truck in your salvage collection was quite interesting.
