- Lava breakout. Lava breached out from the upper platform again. Volcanic Eruption in Meradalir valley, Iceland. Fagradalsfjall mountains, Reykjanes peninsula. Today I have made another trip to the eruption site. This time I biked most of the way and approached it from the north.

That fountaining in the back is amazing!
Wow. Another great video. Thanks for sharing Roman. This looks amazing.
Good to see the visitors doing what the ICESAR folks ask of them.
Hanno visto lo spettacolo che ci dà la natura....sai che caldo torbito che fa.... vicino a questo fuoco 🌋
Thank you for this savage and beautiful video
I really like that I can choose a much higher resolution on these videos. Thank you! Take care.
It is filling up the Valley.....Good footage
So much fun to be watching another volcano and Roman's videos!
Fantastic, Roman. You must be one of the fittest men in Iceland with all the trekking you do!
Insanely cool!
Wow! Utterly fantastic! That lava falls is flowing very very fast! That lava bed is huge! This is the first time I think I’ve seen the emergency workers there to push back the folks from getting too close. Incredible! Excellent coverage. Thank you.
Guess they don’t want them roasting marshmallows anymore!!
@@barnowlwatcher Yea, sulphur flavored marshmallows probably not good for you. ☠️🤢. 😂😂😂
So strangely hypnotic..this is better than last year's eruption..great footage ! That's gotta be unbelievable to see at night !!
So exciting! Be careful please!😍
I have never seen lava flows on a flatter surface.
The Volcano erupting is beautiful,
I have only seen mountainous volcanoes blowing their top off.
Thanks.
That is an impressive amount of liquid rock being pumped out of the ground! Thanks for braving the elements Roman, and for all the updates for us who would love to see it in person!
Looking awesome. Thanks for the videos. Great quality.
Great footage as ever, but it worries me that none of the visitors seem to be wearing anything to protect their lungs from the gases which I have heard to have a higher sulfur content than last time. Please stay safe 🦄
People are not downwind from the volcano, plus the rescue team have gas meters and would tell people to leave. Don't worry people will be okay
Its fine you don't need protection
This is one of those 'probably ok but if not, real bad' kind of things. Probably no one is going to get gassed at all, since prevailing winds usually have a fairly predictable direction, and you can watch it, and now there is a safety crew who are watching it even better. That said, 'The wind winds as it wants.' Personally I would probably want a respirator in my bag if I was going further than just looking from the top. I have noticed occasions in these videos where the wind is only 30 degrees or so away from being quite unfavorable. Sure, when the wind shifts, you just leave, but it looks like leaving means a 15-20 minute strenuous, steep scramble up that hill with smoke burning your eyes and airway the whole time. You'd probably make it out all right, but it would definitely suck and not everyone would be all right.
@@torydavis10 you don't need masks or anything. This is a volcano without ash
Honestly it’s not that bad at all. Wind shift happened when I was there and I got caught traversing the plume. It’s windy on site, it dilutes the fumes. I didn’t smell a thing and certainly no burning or eye irritation at all
Plz be safe there and always enjoy the content. Thanks for showing everything you do and hello from Florida
Imagine the ground surface that you see being consumed by lava will probably never be seen again until the end of time. Pretty fascinating to think about
mind boggling. I hadn't thought about that until you mentioned it.
incorrect. all the surface of the earth gets recycled as lava at some point in time. Iceland itself is not that old as a landmass.
@@thomasneal9291 if that were true how come geologists take a core sample to see the layers laid down over time? Layers that are millions of years old. And how come there are fossils of dinosaurs? They were extinct long before man and would surely have been recycled by now. If it gets recycled at some point, then it must take millions of years for this to happen and so Dooks is correct. Certainly not in our lifetime, and possibly the Earth's lifetime, will we see this patch of land again and certainly not the way it looks now.
@@warpedweft9004 takes 100s of millions of years for continent change like what Thomas is talking about. There used to be a single supercontinent called Pangea, pretty interesting you should look it up because it's clear you haven't ;)
Exactly, my point, so I stand by my comments about what Dooks originally said and my comments.
The rescue teams are really doing a good job at keeping people away and safe. The volcano is really pumping out a lot of lava and man is it moving fast. It reminds me of watching the feeds of the Hawaii eruption
There is an Icelandic man who's an editor and chief of one of their news papers who went there day 0 and interviewed scientists who grabbed samples. What they basically said is that lava is it's own safety as you will find it way too hot before you even get close enough for them to worry. They are more worried about people not understanding the hike difficulty to the point the gov't has banned kids under 12 y/o
I think people can figure that out by themselves. Only those with authoritarian inclinations always think they need to shepherd other people.
@@goldreverre dude, last year some american asshat literally ran up the cinder cone.
you have no clue what you are talking about. Search and Rescue in Iceland is currently having to rescue an average of 8 people per day.
The dude with the red scarf seemed to be a dit of a tool.
@@goldreverre
Yeah great, natural selection in action
That's how to get rid of the dummies
Film it Film it
Thanks for the update
Alsome. Thanks for another great video.
very cool to watch , welcome back
Awesome footage!! Stay safe out there!
Wow amazing raw footage. Great shots. Thanks.
Great video.
thank you again from someone who will likely never see one in person this is close. It truly is amazing to see and your videos are beautiful and informative
Thanks so much for making the efforts to record so much for us to see, Roman. Always a highlight of my day
yea
Thanks…great video!
with all those guards, it looks like now you must pay to enter the site 🤣🤣.
Great footage mister!
these are volunteers from iceland's search and rescue team
@@viktorsmari9442
Awesome thanks for let me know.❣️
As much I would love to be there to see this, I don't think I'll that close.
Thanks for the great video!
Love your videos, thank you 👍👍👍👍
Awesome 👍
That cone has really grown!
So amazing!
Great video
Just....HOLY COW that's awesome to see.
Thank you 😊
I am amazed that people don't have enough common sense to stay that far from the lava on their own but instead need the search and rescue people there to police the public from getting too close to the lava. Being able to sense danger is an important survival instinct which it appears many have lost.
I don't think that's quite fair. I mean, before they were out there, people stayed about that far back already just because it's too hot to get closer. The way I look at it is that the crews are there just because so many people have been visiting that the odds of a problem go up, and since they're there, well, if the bright yellow safety people aren't guarding the danger, it doesn't look like they are doing their jobs. It's definitely good to have them there with so many people though, as many may not be experienced with walking on the ground and may have all the same problems tourists have everywhere they try to leave the sidewalk.
Of course people have enough "common sense" to stay away from hot lava. It's called survival instinct and it's far more useful than a bunch of traffic police who think they need to control other people.
@@torydavis10 the reason there are safety personel there now, is because more than 10 people per day were having to get helicoptered out by search and rescue before. still 8 people getting rescued daily.
@@thomasneal9291 Like I said, more idiots, more problems. We completely agree I think, I just have slightly less sympathy for dumdums. If you give Jean's comment and my reply a second read, in context I think you'll find I'm defending both the Safety Squad and the average local hiker. Thanks for the numbers, I didn't know them, but it sounds about right. When you put sidewalk-adapted land mammals onto rugged terrain, even the ones that handle it all right forget they have to drink water when it's 170 F / 75 C. It would probably be just as bad if it was the world championship chili cookoff instead of a volcano, just because people suck that hard at going outside.
That was great. Thank you
Thanks
It's mesmerizing.
Our planet is something to behold.
love all your videos, thanks for sharing, best wishes from Australia :)
So weird to me how this flow is slow. Yet it's moving. Changing. Just in awe how it even. Got up the side there of the hillshide at one point. Oh there is a person way on other side. Gesh! Well I am in the states and in Florida. So I feel I'd love this. Windy and cold as heck, but then you get to the rim of the lava and it's hot. Must feel like a Florida day in summer right there! Ha!
AMAZING!!!!!
There's some beautiful high spurts from the main vent in the background 😃
Very beautiful
That is so beautiful
That heavy thick lava is moving fast on the flat field! Any chance of a time-lapse to show how far the lava has advanced in its first week? The perspective would be great for comparison on its volume and speed. Thank you for your dedication!
I just hear the crackling.
This is a big one
I'm always following your videos! It's great to be starring in one of them now. 😆 Unfortunately I didn't recognized you, the volcano is so mesmerising...
Wonderful photography, thank you.
What distance would you say you were from the eruption itself, one kilometre?
Thanks for the awesome updates and footage youve shot. Ive followed this volcano for the months leading up to its eruption. Id love to come and see it but cant so this is the next best thing. Is there any chance of putting together a small video of the walk to get there as ive heard its quite difficult! Thanks from New Zealand 🤙
So excited secenero.... Oh my God..
I was just there last night and it is truly remarkable
Wow…🔥🌋🔥
magic!
I watched the volcano last year just about every day and the amount of lava that is moving since this thing started again is mind-boggling compared to what it was doing. Sometimes we would wait days for it to move and this is just constantly on the move and deep and thick not a little thin layer. And every night it overflows on top of the old floor instead of running through it. 👀🇺🇲
Just incredible how much lava has flowed already. Do you think it will head to Nattagii?
So many bonkers people.....
Sara
Roman, what country are you from? Love your videos! 👍👍👍
I will love to see a drone shot to get a better perspective of the size of the lava field and speed of lava flow.
Magnifiques vidéo merci pour le partage.
Personnellement vous me faite économiser le billet d avion et le coût du séjour cette fois ci.😉
I look forward to coming home and finding new videos from you. This is the highlight of my day for sure with a huge flow so close and lava shooting high in the background. I've gotten used to seeing people walking to close to the flow- there is NO WAY this would be allowed down here in the U.S. I'm about to flip a coin and get a plane ticket if it comes up heads. Cheers!
Go even if it comes up tails! I was there last year and will have the incredible memories for the rest of my life. I may even go back again.
Did you end up going ?
@@meerakotak4686 I did not. And now it seems to be dying down so it's probably best that I haven't gone, but I may still go if it returns to life 🌋
Is that... Snow? My goodness I love Iceland
Awesome! It seems that as of today? The irruption ended.
Roman the Icelandic SAR teams do a great job, I'm not sure if they are all volunteers, but I was wondering if you would consider including a link in the information in 'show more' I'm sure that if ppl. could many would be happy to give them a donation for the brilliant work they do.
Thanks Roman for your tireless efforts even in the rain, keep safe and look after your health.
What do they do? Why are they great?
@@dontcomment6012 SAR? Search And Rescue, they are all unpaid volunteers, but supported with public funding through the govt. So they rescue ppl. who get themselves into trouble regarding their safety often risking their own in the process.
Thank you! How likely is it that the lava flow suddenly accelerates? What would a reasonable time be before people can safely walk on the new lava field?
Wow.. Really wonderful..
Can I ask how much time do u need for arrive there. From park N1?
Or what trip u did..
Thanks a lot.
Tomorrow I'm near there..
I'd love to see a time lapse of this event
Ok honey, just let me get one more selfie... ARGHHH!!! IT BURNS!!!! (Famous Last Words.)
Yay, they let you back in! Amazing how much of a shield has grown while the storm was passing. Looking forward to drone footage!
Is that a lava flow going up hill in the back ground of your video it must’ve been an earlier one.
Was it snowing or raining?
is just because of this new lava stream spilling that people aren't allowed any closer? or is this for all future actitivies? you had some pretty neat previous close ups!
you can't get much closer without suffering heat stroke and burned skin. it's over 170F within about 15 feet of the flow, and those people who tried to roast marshmallows on the lava likely experience over 400f very briefly. that's one of the reasons there are safety personnel now.
How high do you think the fountains are?
Is it just me, or are the lavafountains at the fissure larger and more powerfull now ?
What is the flow rate of that lava?
Will the lava make it's way to the North Atlantic?
Quelle merveille! Ces jeysers de et ces rivières de lave. Je rêve de voir un volcan effusif en éruption. Mieux les volcans hawaïens qui ont des lacs de lave permanents
Its,alive,It's alive !!!!
How far is actual eruption from you
I wonder if it smells the same?
That must be a weird feeling hot and cold at the same time
Where is this lava heading? Does it have a route out to another valley?
Do they measure the glasses?....like La Palma.
Like a crawling monster it is roaming to wherever
@gutntog do you know what the lava volume per second is now? I recall that it was just over 35 cubic meters/sec at the beginning, but then it dropped to 18-20 cubic meters/sec.
How far away from the volcano are you as it appears to be very close?
approximately how hir is that large lava fountain? It looks gigantic. Thanks for your hard dangerous work it is fascinating to watch.
I’d love to know that as well.
@@CharlesPayet
100 m or 300 ft aprox.
Just make sure you have a good escape route. I worry about people being surrounded by lava with no way out.
I will watch my way out all the time if I am there.
Where is this in relationship to the other 10-8-22 video you just uploaded? Where the cone is forming?
IS THAT SNOW?
Seems like the lava is thicker and more organized on this eruption? When Hawaii first started going off the scientists and local You Tubers talked a lot about old lava that had originated since the previous eruption, many years earlier. After 3 weeks or so the lava became thinner and moved more swiftly and was considered new lava…..
R u not afraid of a rock or hot lava chunked on your head?
Thank you for sharing === be safe !
it currently is not erupting in an explosive fashion. very very unlikely to toss lava rocks any significant distance.
Looks like a snow flurry happening.
Is this the fissure or the "older" one from some months back?
nope, totally new fissure that appeared on the edge of the lava flow from last year.
Roman or anybody, what do we call the mountain that was made last year? I know it started in Geldingadalir Valley but just asking. Thank you
