- Meradalir Volcano seen in the evening of August 15th, 2022. We just returned from our 5th Volcano expedition the newly erupting in Meradalir valleys. Volcano changed a lot. Now we don't have a small crater, it's gone dormant and big cone almost closed itself with just one exit facing south.

Greetings from the BIG SKY. Looks nippy.
Thank you for braving the cold and making your nose drippy for us!
Thank you for being willing to brave the cold and discomfort to bring such great video documentation of this newest eruption!
Bless you for braving the cold to bring us these wonderful videos of the volcano. You Are The MAN ROMAN!! If I was there I would share some hot coffee with you. Thank you !!
The explanation that eventually smaller fissures will simply be buried under the new lava makes sense to me, but it doesn't mean that they are extinct, unseen and below the apparently solidified surface they could still be adding to the total lava outflow despite us not seeing it.
Usually the way it works is that the lava from the smaller fissures takes the path of least resistance and ends up in the newly-formed main vent.
@@GaldirEonai That too.
In last yrs. eruption event a line of fissures emerged from the one that ended as becoming the main one to towards the west (other side of the outlet channel that formed), These didn't last but just as everyone was predicting that the main event was over there came a short time later a new outflow which came from under the west wall of the volcano, which made me think that this indicated a weak spot on that side of the volcano and that more would come from it.
I think my direction sense is good altho I did get a little confused directionally due to the changes in vantage points of the videos I watched. BUT the main lava out flow came from one side and the late revival was on the opposite side.
Phew! that took more to explain than I thought it would! 😓
I appreciate that you do this. The progression is amazing.
Good work!
Thank you for getting all of this great coverage!
So nice to see your face, Roman. Thank you so much for sharing this.
G'day.
Thanks for sharing these with us all.
Don't see much like this in Australia.
All the best to you
Once again, you have the best footage of a volcano. You always give us exactly what people want to see, and for that, l thank you. Plus your commentary is enjoyable, and the view of the surrounding activity, gives your videos the personal touch.
Stay Warm!!
Hope you feel better for your Holiday. Have a great time.
We look forward to seeing your videos. Take care and enjoy, hi to Nina
6:05 shows us the process of cloud formation. Warm moist air rises then cools and condenses to form a cloud.🤙
Reminds me of watching Surtsey with my father back in August 1964!
Thank You Roman so amazing to watch!
Thank you so much for sharing this.
a 3 or 4 hour hike in the rain and wind and up and down hills across a boulder field so ill take my guitar , there is a word for that !.
The bursts are beautiful and frightening. I can’t believe the number of days this has been erupting and the vastness of the lava field. Your videos and commentary are wonderful!
It’s beautiful. Thank you Roman
Love the close up of the volcano. Spectacular eruption. All that magna being spewed out in a fast boiling river. Fascinating. Looks as if those people going into the smoke of the lava/ buring grasses not wise getting smoke inhalation, damage to lungs is permanent !!
Yup! Standing next to that smoke is especially dumb since many volcanos produce a “smoke” which is actually microscopic shards of volcanic glass drifting in the breeze! Really, really bad to breath!
Curious as to what people do there when nature calls. There are not really any trees or bushes to duck behind - just a few rocks. And just about everyone is filming.
Yes, Roman, what do people do?
Just shit in the lava while singing The Christmas Song.
I think I remember seeing a video on another channel and seeing porta potties at spots along the trail. Although that might have been from the one last year.
@@DustinBowen1 perhaps singing I'm a little chestnut watch me brown. That heat is awesome.
Camera man always survives.
Thank you for filming every day! Amazing!
thank you, stay safe and warm. 👩🦳
Thanks for the latest video. The lava is mesmerizing. Would like to be able to see it in person. However your videos are the next best thing
Amazing close-up! I did not think you could zoom any closer so clearly and then.....!!!!!
This is fascinating to watch. Thanks for filming. You’d think it would be warm in that valley with the heat from the volcano. But Iceland prevails!
I was just thinking "a guitar??" and then you paused on that guy and said exactly what I was thinking...lol.
Thanks guys!
I wish it was possible to put a size of a person next to where the lava is exiting the crater for scale. I don’t think that most people understand how huge it is.
You didn't see the video of people that went around the back of the volcano and got really close?
You still make the best videos!!
I'd love to see if the small fissure on the hill ia still producing any small bits.
For those of us that have watched you through now the 2nd volcano, it is awful to see these rude comments this year. Last year everyone was nice and respectful.
Last year it was mostly scientifically minded and genuinely interested people. Now it is a circus. The comment section will be no different. At least it is good exercise and a change from politics.
@@apextroll It gets pretty bad when there are crazies everywhere. It is OK for them to annoy us, but if we say something to them, we could get in trouble for just saying what we think.
Thanks and stay warm
And, we very much appreciate what you are doing for us! Stay safe
You are so consistent in filming the activity, expansion, breakout spills and changes.
Multiple posts daily keeps me informed & entertained. You're doing an awesome job btw so Thanx from California.
I sure wish we had some way of seeing how high the lava has come up the side of the hill. It is hard to tell how high the lava walls are and especially how high the bursts go. Thank you so much for what you do.
Dude really brought a guitar to a active volcano site 🤣 pure meme fuel.
Amazing, Roman. Great video!
Thank you for your work. I like seeing the inner earth and the people filming it.
Thank you for more and more wonderful video. I enjoy your voice so much. Lots of good info. 🙏🏻
Thanks! Not much new to see today, but we appreciate your efforts!
Spectacle, only thing exciting around here is the baby skunk's and a new groundhog in the neighborhood,
There still seems to be a little vent also open to the left in cone
Thanks!
Thank you
❤️❤️🔥 thank you ❤️🔥❤️
It is still very hot here in Houston and it’s not from a volcano. Thank you for filming and sharing your experiences.
IMO Mary, if there is anything in the world that could be "effecting" the weather, it could be the 40-50 volcanoes actively erupting around the world putting a whole lot more greenhouse gases than man ever could...
@@terencefredrick9726 Volcanoes emit about 100 times less CO2 than we do. Even big eruptions like Pinatubo do not emit more than us. The main result of 50 volcanoes erupting simultaneously would be aerosol (smoke) making the planet colder for a year or two, just like Pinatubo did.
@@terencefredrick9726 Lmao, you think climate scientists haven't considered volcanoes? What a surface level degenerate comment.
@@ohhmanitscam climate science is a religion started baby ppl like Mikhail Gorbachev who took over Greenpeace after leaving as the last premiere of the USSR Am Gore and his alarmists have been crying the earth is going to die from the green house cow farts so who is the real moron now? You idiots are embracing your own death.. Look up a movie titled "the Killing Fields" it's about Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge took over.. It's the "Great Reset" put to a test... You'd better wake up to what for "religion" is going yo do to you and your family
Olh, nice, we can see you!
just amazing. it could take a very long time to reach the south road. it could easily start heading north as this thing goes higher and higher. I was not expecting that to be possible.
Maybe that guy goes everywhere with his guitar?
great video thanks!
Thank you sir,, good morning, jeez the levels have risen high,, since the start is their an approx on the height per day?? The valley mass so quickly filling, we've had a heat wave now we have heavy rain s and electrical storm's,, wishing you both safe and well, thank you Mr 4o.an got me back paying geological attention again, helped me with alot bro for real,, predicted thing's here in the UK,, but I'm nothing but a nutter 😂🤦♂️🤣🤣. Have a grand day Mr Roman and Mrs Nina🌌🌌🕊️💖🕯️👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏😎🤗🤜🤛🌌🌌🌌
love your videos.
What's cool is that Iceland gets all of its electricity from this thermal activity, and much of its veggies grow in greenhouses completely warmed and powered by the same energy.
It is amazing how much more lava is coming out this year and then there was last year. The walls of the caldera formed almost overnight compared to last year.
Take care of yourself and don't let that cold get the best of you. Stay home if you need to, you're too dedicated sometimes, LOL 👍🏻🇺🇲
Why thank you, much appreciated! But please stay warm! Your health is most important!
Amazing footage
The lava level wasn’t rising yesterday, nor was it today, in fact there were posts from the Icelandic university that the lava lake dropped serveral meters and the measurements show the Lava effusion rates were between 2-4 cubic meters per second the past 4 days. The eruption is at risk of ending if things don’t pick up with the current fissure or new fissures don’t open up.
This was filmed yesterday (the 15th) and there was a few breaks so yes.. The lake dropped a bit because it was emptying into the area.
That isn't called risk of ending but risk of opening of new vent.
the crater lake dropped because there was another split in the crater that let the lava out at a lower level than the lip facing the camera and there was a small breakout around the back as well , but they did say that the eruption has moved through the different phases quicker than the 2021 eruption (which would suggest a shorter eruption) and at one point even stopped for an hour but they still think it will last for longer as they said the chamber held twice as much as the 2021 event ! , imho the chamber has now been emptied and is now getting filled from a deeper depth which would account for an increased amount of gasses and the time both the big vent and the smaller one were both roaring up like fireworks as new gas laden magma started to surface but thats just mho.
Thanks
Wow I have never seen a safe position to watch the cone volcano burst 😳
It's marvellous stuff,
I cant help thinking that the mountains behind could also become active if feed by lava directed off the main internal push up to earth.
Like veins.
Still plenty of smokey vents everywhere. I've seen people walk over them in other videos, crazy people. Awesome video 🥰
What are people doing on top of the smoke? I don't think it will do them good. The lava is looking very placid today. Perhaps we can order some blue lava for a change. Yes, where will the break occur? Any more injuries amongst the spectators? Stay safe.
WOW!
lol, that dude has a guitar with him, awesome. I'd love to record something near the vulcano
The fire dragon was cool.
You need to get closer to the lave and warm up! Lol
Hi It would be great if you could mention what direction you are facing and approximate distance to the volcano so I can orient on a map. Wonderful videos. tak (is that correct for thanks?)
It's winter here in Australia and I am very cold at 13' C - I don't know how you do it!
Stay safe & be aware of surroundings at all times.
Is there any news on the glacier quakes and any melting? I forget the name. Be safe.
Aside from the lava I'd be worried about toxic gasses suddenly filling low areas. I'd stay well above it just to be safe. You would pass out in just a few seconds if caught in it.
Good with headphones; the helicopters sound great!
Well, someone has to play the volcano some nice music. It maybe doesn't only have a need for drones but also for something nice to listen to.
That's me in the helicopter. I'm disabled and no provision for people who cannot walk so far like a shuttle. Drones are not as dangerous to a helicopter as much as a plane plus they are supposed to stay under 120 meters- 400 feet. Other aircraft are to stay well above that, I think he said 900 meters-3000 feet above the volcano. That is directly over the volcanic area. If pilot goes to side he can drop lower.
is this the long Path A view?
I feel like renting Joe vs. the Volcano after watching this.
i just realized the smaller eruption is 'gone' i'll have to look back to see what happened :)
The Icelandic Institute of Earth Sciences has warned that loading by the 2022 lava is forcing still hot lava to spill out from underneath the edges of the 2021 lava field. It could ooze out suddenly and rapidly, making it very dangerous to stand too close to the edge.
Can anyone explain how the gap through which the lava flows is capable of closing over time? How does it work?
are cold temperatures common in August?
What is the temperature there, you are funny 😄
Is there a live stream of the event?
If you search CZcams for “Iceland live 2022” you’ll find 2-3 different live camera feeds.
Those people are crazy standing right next to the lava, on a steep incline. If the fall, they will get hurt really bad!
Is it winter already?
Something else: Does the "drinking stone" still exist and work or has it been buried by Lava in 2021 ?
Not a single tent. I guess you're not allowed to camp?
Getting frost bites around scorching volcano 😬
I’m sure with it being cold you can appreciate the heat from the volcano. Just not the smell if there is any.
I wish we had an active volcano in my town... We could use one.
Wheres Bjork? I miss her
Please take our 30C temps in Seattle this week in trade. 😂
You just need to snuggle up to some nice warm lava to get warm!
Vogar will be safe.
Call this one "THOR"!
Roman, if you've covered your microphone with a wind-shield, it's done a GREAT job. Or maybe there's no strong wind at this recording. Either way-!!
Also, I'm always fascinated by the 'splatter remnants' on the outside of the cone and, when I see people walking on trails or hillsides, I see the exact same texture of path surfaces.
I asked this question several times , so it must be a secret .
how many volcanoes are erupting in Iceland.
I get several names from videos here and want to know a simple answer!
As stupis as those people are @ the smoking edges, there were people walking on the new lava toward the back side of the new cone on another channel's video. He kind of used his drone to herd them off the lava. What idiots! They'd deserve to get injured, but they'd also ruin it for everyone else, too, in getting injured.
Those mountains around y'all are hot air pockets
mm... looks like it's winding down. This show might be almost over.
"Follow me, and I will make you fissures of men.: Matthew 4:19
"He came here with a guitar...Wow"
Looking for inspiration...or maybe a hippy love fest....hope he found the song.
hello friends
Seeing people next to something that could give a blast of hot enough air to incinerate everyone ... it seems strange to me.
