  • Meradalir Volcano Eruption on August 5, 2022. Today I have made my 2nd trip to the new eruption site in Meradalir where I met my friend Julius. The way there was easy but on the way back we got into a bad rain storm with wind. Weather deteriorated quickly. Still it was worth it. Some stunning videos coming soon.

    This eruption started out producing over five times what the eruption was producing a year ago. Last year it ended up producing about 9cubic meters per second. This new one started at 32 m3 per sec. And that looks like it's grown a bit! So lucky to be there! Just amazing!

      @@sumiland6445 Iceland is very similar to Hawaii in that it _CAN_ produce explosive eruptions but rarely does. Usually at the start of an eruption there is a chance of superheated groundwater flashing to steam. (As a side note: Honga Tonga may have put up enough water vapor that it could be partly to blame for the heat waves we are seeing, water vapor is excellent at holding heat in. That eruption sent up ten times what was originally predicted, and way up into the atmosphere, so it will be interesting to see what comes of that). But I digress.
      These are probably the safest eruptions to watch. So yeah, I'm jealous.

    To be the boring Icelandic guy! There are some big issues regarding poorely dressed tourists visiting the eruption and more importantly Icelanders (that can get litle crazy or more crazy than foreign visitors). Some get too close to the lava flowing and or take a walk in to the valleys near the lavaflow. That is very very dangerous because of posionous gas. Its very exciting and breathtaking to see this happening but you also have to be extremely attentive to the ground you are walking on. The Icelandic and foreign scientists have detceted heat under some of the very ground some people are walking on. A map that shows dangerous ground has been issued. Be careful guys but enjoy nontheless. 😊

    • @Benson_aka_devils_advocate_88
      @Benson_aka_devils_advocate_88 Před rokem

      It's from two things. Iceland sits on a hot spot like Hawaii. Iceland is also a tectonic rift zone that is pulling apart. That combination melts the overlaying rock as it's being pulled apart, creating these long cracks.
      Once enough lava builds up we can't see the crack, just a plume of lava. This is what happened last year, and if geologic history is looked at this may be the beginning of a short eruptive cycle lasting a few years or even longer.

    • @reneedavis7132
      @reneedavis7132 Před rokem

    • @Benson_aka_devils_advocate_88
      @Benson_aka_devils_advocate_88 Před rokem +3

      Think of the lava like it was hot, liquidy peanut butter, and the ground is a stack of crackers. The crackers are like the Earth's crust, and the space in between are like fault lines. The pressure builds underneath as the space between the crackers grows, until the peanut butter can ooze between a couple crackers.
      In a way it's a lava tube, but it's coming more or less straight up from directly below. It's just that the ground has long cracks that ever so, so slowly form as the Earth's plates pull apart. Plus, Iceland is literally heavier than oceanic crust, so it's pushing down on the mantle. This creates pressure that pushes the magma through the cracks. It's a cycle still being teased out. But computers are doing amazing things with seismic tomography data.

      This is not a stratovolcano which can be explosive. This fissure eruption is producing basaltic lava which has a low viscosity relative to that of a stratovolcano. Thus the lava keeps flowing and doesn't clog up the vent. Think Kilauea which also erupts basaltic lava.

  • @ronibark5804
    @ronibark5804 Před rokem

    We need to understand that being at the top of the pyramid of creation means that everything we do trickles down the structure, from top to bottom. When it reaches the bottom, the inanimate level of reality, from which everything grows, it changes it. If we ooze ill-will, it creates negative changes throughout the system, which manifest in increasingly extreme climatic and geological events.
    In other words, when human relationships go out of balance, everything goes out of balance. When our relations become extreme, everything becomes extreme; when we become violent, everything becomes violent. Each summer, the ramifications of the linkage between our relations and our world become more extreme, until we acknowledge that everything that exists, exists in a connected, hierarchical system and that whoever is at the top determines the state of the rest of the system.
    It is not as if previously, we were better people than we are today. It is simply that there were fewer people, and therefore fewer elements that exude ill will.
    Also, relationships between people in the past were less toxic than they are today. While there are fewer wars today than ever, the levels of suspicion and alienation between people are skyrocketing, to the point where people can no longer trust their own family members. As a result, wars between countries are rarer than ever, but divorce rates, domestic violence, and violence in the community, are at an all-time high.
    Even the internet, which we invented purportedly in order to connect people, is being used to abuse, deceive, and exploit people. The world-wide-web proves that everything we create, we use against others. When there is such a negative element in a system, and that element is at the top of the system, how can the entire system not go awry?
    Therefore, if we want the weather to cool, the sea-level to drop, and the storms to subside, we must cool the fire and calm the storms between us. Mutual concern, mutual responsibility, or at least the knowledge that we are dependent on each other, are necessary in order to restore balance in our world at all levels, from the ground we walk on to the hatred in our hearts.
