Enormous Lava River spotted at Meradalir Volcano, Iceland! 🌋 2022 August 10

- Lava breakout generated enormous lava flow running towards north western tip of Meradalir. Lava breached out from the upper platform again. Volcanic Eruption in Meradalir valley, Iceland. Fagradalsfjall mountains, Reykjanes peninsula. Today I have made another trip to the eruption site. This time I biked most of the way and approached it from the north.

Absolutely mesmerizing. The river of lava was great, but the main eruption site was just astounding, very active along its entire length and with the center throwing magma up so very far!

That fountain is the hottest since it started meaning fresh mire fluid lave is coming out. I'd expect explosions com ik ng soon.

@@katiehettinger7857 Was it splatter from the end of the original long fissure? The initial lower flow peripheries of the fissure have scabbed over leaving a centralised area to release the pressure.

The lava coming out of that little leftmost vent was probably how much was coming out of the original volcano.

It looks like that's the only point where lava is able to spill out and flow to lower ground amazing to see that it can also push its way uphill in places. When the lava gets to the end it will have to fill the bathtub before it can go anywhere.

What is your favorite volcano so far, out of the ones you have filmed? Do take good care of your skin and breathing holes. Been studying the effects that the gasses can have on human health, and I sincerely pray folks are well equipped. Please please be safe everyone who goes to visit this remarkable event.
Some of those people are a lot closer than you are to the river of lava. If you are burning up, how are they not smoldering cinders?
It would be really nice to have some context. The landmarks are all hills that look very much the same to each other, and the valleys all change so much that there's no way to know if this river is moving north or south, or squeezing out to the east. The sky is overcast constantly, so there's no shadows to give away the direction of the sun. Please find a way to tell us where these new features are, or which direction the lava is moving.
It's north east of the old cone, in almost a direct line from the old cone to Keilir. so in this video it's across the lava field from the base of Stori Hruter, and this lava river is flowing almost due north. After seeing the map it appears that the flow is taking adirect line to the sea.

Adjoining hills are 250 to 350 meters topography tall. Lava field is north south. The river we are seeing seems to be north face flow.

OK GutnTog: What I really want to see is some water balloons thrown on top of that hot red lava flow. Can you do that for us. Pack a couple of water balloon in your backpack tomorrow.

The fact that the lava is pushing itself up and over that incline is incredible.
Lava is way more viscous than water so it in many ways acts like a solid in terms of the back side pushing the front edge. I wonder how the flow has changed on the other side of the lava lake. It might be reduced now that the breech has created a lower spot in the circular dyke. It appears as though the lake level is below the edge now. I am guessing that we are seeing both a draining of the existing resevoir as well as the addition of new lava from the fountains, and from this spot it may continue to flow at the rate at which it is being produced. With lava gravity only rules about 90% of the time.
Are there unhappy landowners that now se their property lost for ever to the lava covering?
It has always been wild land unsuited for building. It will not diminish it's value.

We will never achieve a good result through bureaucratic, mechanical measures.
There are a lot of people sitting in their comfortable offices profiting from the environmental crisis and demanding money and respect. They keep flying from one end of the world to the other on all kinds of missions to make a lot of noise with what they are "doing" and which everyone "needs to hear" as if that alone means something is happening, but in practice we see no real progress. The Earth must also be cleansed of them, of these people who engage in useless campaigns that only cause harm because they mislead the world, leading it away from the real solution.
The cleaning of the planet should start inside out. If we do not clean the planet from within, and continue with our reckless behavior and the selfish nature of our hearts as before, nothing will change for the better. The immense sums invested in environmental initiatives should be directed to spreading an educational process aimed at improving the way we relate to each other.
Humans are the most developed and influential factors of all of nature's levels: still, vegetative, animate and human. Since we occupy the highest level in nature, positively affecting the environment, the climate, and nature in general can be achieved by reaching positive relations among us. On the contrary, by letting our divisive drives tear apart human relations, we also destroy our surrounding environment, the very nature that our lives depend on.
The more we humans are able to correct ourselves by changing our divisive attitudes toward each other into positive attitudes of mutual support, encouragement, mutual responsibility, and reciprocal concern, the more we will receive positive feedback from nature. And the more we develop without making this necessary correction, the more negative feedback we will receive from nature, as we have experienced in the form of natural disasters, pandemics.
It is of utmost importance for us to organize our thoughts, desires and qualities so that we understand that saving the environment and a shift to a better future depend solely on changing our attitudes to each other: from antagonistic egoism to positive, compassionate and cooperative relationships.
