- Berserk 1997 is one of the best animes I have ever watched. It has a wonderful and tragic story filled with many lessons in life. Furthermore, the main protagonist, Guts, is one of the best characters I have ever seen. I finally understand why he is so popular. He is both an awesome demon killing machine and a complex character that elevates his humanity.

97 Berserk is the first anime I watched as a kid because of my brother. Then I tought "whoa anime is so cool", but looking back at it, I just started with the coolest anime, and although theres definitely very good other animes, nothing surpassed Berserk.
There are definitely better animes, but nothing beats the manga.

It’s true. Nothing beats the 97 anime when you really look back. Lots of things become childish and cringy , but guts and the struggle remains constant throughout the years.

My dad introduced me to this when I was young and, along with a couple others, it has proved to be one of the few animes I've seen and liked.

I'm 29 so I watched this for the first time I think when I was 15 so awhile ago. I was late to the punch back then too lol. Once you watch the 90s version you see why we were all so upset at how absolute g@rbage Berserk 2016 one is and how insulting it is to Miura and Berserk.
Yeah, I see a lot of negative comments about the 2016 version. I will definitely watch it and see for myself!
I like the 2016/17 versions, lots of good philosophy in it. It actually inspired me to go to India and learn about yogic spirituality. I think people just don't like the animation, but I thought it was mostly fine. People just like to complain because it's the "in" thing to do.
@Hypothic That's good for you but it's unacceptable to everyone else. You can teach philosophy and all that with good animation as well and people will actually take it more seriously. Bad animation just puts people off and is a disrespect to the author who puts so much time into a single page to see their work turned into the slop that was Berserk 2016.
there's no season two that has the same animation as the 1996 version? damn they really did an anime really poorly :(
Yes Berserk really is a hidden gem that is slowly being uncovered to the world.
I too did start it late and really loved it when I first got into it and that was in 2017. I seen Berserk content for years before that floating around probably since 2006 or so. The fact it was started a year before me really shows it really did start a long time ago going unnoticed

@@johnplaydown1975 u might want to read it from the beginning. There's an arc before the golden age arc, and the golden age arc itself has a very important character to the story that was left out in the anime

reading the Manga now started in College- on chapter 49 ish / 50 slow but steady. . . baby souls borne player got Molly rocked by cleric beast in BB but the story , humility and interactions is warming and inspirational

You should definitely read the manga, but from the beginning, a lot was left out in the anime, about 40-50% at least I'd guess including a very important character, and also the art is just built different
Honestly the anime is so boring besides a few episodes.. But reading it in the manga is so much better for some reason... I fell in love with the manga.. How could the leave the slug count and wyld out of the anime?? SERIOUSLY!!??
@@ryanr9299 instead of incorporating more fantasy elements they chose to focus on the politics of medieval times and the nitty gritty of battle. So when something fantastical does happen, like seeing zodd for the first time. It’s a shock to the system. Same for the eclipse. While I’d love a full adaptation of the manga in its entirety. I really really think they did 97 well man
Honestly that was the wrong decision in my eyes... I mean they even changed the jailer while the jailer in the manga was way better.. Kind of sums it up overall really.. They left out roseine too.. Im only on chapter 117 of the manga rn.. I havent watched the 2016 version of berzerk..
@@frado9194 I watched the anime first before reading the manga and i was so bored i skipped to the eclipse episodes which were done really well.. My coworker convinced me to start reading the manga while i had down time at work. Even tho i knew what was going to happen up until the eclipse it was still so much better to read for some reason.. Leaving out crucial demons like Wyld and later on no Roseine or Slug count is such a crime to series!! The anime did not do the manga justice WHAT SO EVER! In my eyes at anyways.. Not sure why they would leave out characters that make berzerk better.. Big mistake on their part..

The art is getting better, but in that chapter you couldn't see Casca's eyes half the time. The same "Black Eyes" that drew Guts in! 😅

Its honestly 100x better than the anime adaptations
Idk if this is just my own personal view or not. But when i look at griffith now all i see is someone who had a person they viewed as a brother. Perhaps even apart of them leave and only wanted to show that they are still his. Its why griffith hasnt tried to kill guts its because thats not what he wants. He wants guts to stand by him again. Just like he did then. Thats all he wants. Griffith could have had zodd grab guts in recent chapters beat him down and take him just like casca but he didnt. Griffith hasnt changed much from back then. For the white hawk the match they had for the black dogs freedom never happened and the black dog must simply return to its master.

I heard about berzerk and watched the 90's anime.. Besides the eclipse and zod ep. i was absolutely bored stiff from the anime and didnt see what the fuss was all about.. Then i started to read the manga at work to kill down time suggested to me by a coworker and fell in love with it.. Not sure why i loved the manga so much while the anime is straight trash..
