that's what we all love about him. his story has touched in ways no other story has, I related to him in a lot of ways, even right down to the anger. berserk helped me through a lot, from getting me out of a bad situation to finding something I love and wanting to work in it. berserk and Guts for that inspired me to want to be a better person and to be a better writer. if they ever have the balls to make a berserk live-action, I want to be one of the few that even try to adapt it.

i know this is a fictional history... and thats why people identify with guts.
but lets say he was a real person...
no one would dare to identify with him, because he literally murdered a little kid xD
well, he would "admired" like ted bundy or richard ramirez. probably judged like a war criminal and executed....
but i get it. he is a lonely man in a horrible context. he regreted killing that kid... but he killed an innocent kid bro. a lot of killers regret their crimes when they are caught.

Maturing over the years is mainly thanks to the hardships and struggles we face in our lives while on our way to becoming older. This is also where the traditional norm comes from, that we should regard our elders with respect, because they've likely faced hardships and struggles as well. The more mature a person is, the more likely it is for them having fought personal battles, some of which may even be beyond our comprehension.

Berserk is literature that shows when any force breaks your will you will live as a husk of who you were. Guts is an inhuman force which allowed him to live this long. Most shonen demonstrate the idea of never backing down and being ambitious to an extant that it is boring. But berserk isn't even a shonen and it demonstrates that moral in a world that feels real with apostles and demons represented as humans who wanted power and control over others. With all said, Guts is the only one who is human never giving in to power and trying to keep himself and his comrades alive. I love berserk, showing life is about struggles and getting through them with losing face. it gives me inspiration for it's ideology and morality.

I have a hard time facing the darkest aspects of myself, and feel so discouraged and hopeless when I do. And I've done nowhere near the things Guts has done. Still, I see him as a hero. Of all the demons he fights night after night, the one he struggles with the most is the one he carries into the daytime every moment of every day, that has grown with him his whole life. He doesn't exactly have self - love, but he's still working with the hope of being better, of doing better, and finding his path. He lives with himself, and the consequences and knowledge of what he has done. That's fortitude if I've ever seen it.

The path to facing ones own self in its darkest is also not for the faint of heart. It is a journey that is primed with danger, and can cause the person to fall into a slippery-slope of turmoil and misery. Many have taken upon themselves to study their own darkest chapters, only to get ensnared by their subconsciousness. I personally fought that battle once, and it lasted for years, much longer than any sane person would have been comfortable with. But eventually i found strength through the struggle and pain, it provided an odd sense of meaning to whatever purpose i was craving from life at the time. So i overcame my own obstacles and thawed out victorious, but at what cost? I had traded away big portion of my humanity in exchange for personal strength of willpower.
I may not still be happy in life, but for whatever its worth, at least i retain a clear sense of meaning. I know my path thoroughly, and i must continue walking it.

This reminds me of the Lost Children Arc when Jill gets upset at her crippled veteran father for always rambling about a past battle that he was defeated in.
      Something along the lines:
Jill: Enough already, day after day you babble on about some old battle you lost! Why don't you think about us some?!
Father: Lost battle..? Old babble..? We fought our hearts out so our wives and children could live in safety.
The father was abusive but it's interesting how he shares many similarities with Guts and makes me wonder if settling down with Casca would even solve anything. Guts is not the kind of character to simply let go of a grudge and even if he wants to settle down to take care of Casca I'd imagine that the anger of his "lost battle" would still smolder within him. Everyone wants Guts to have a happy ending with Casca but I doubt that will ever happen.

Berserk Is about many many things. Here are some of the most important ones. 1. Literally all of fate has conspired against Guts to make his life a living hell. So what does guts do? Does Guts complain? Does Guts cry or play the victim and curse the world? NO! Guts rises to the occasion can carries the heaviest burden he possibly can to be the person everyone needs him to be.
    2. Berserk captures the nature of man and the hero's journey better than any other piece can or has done. Guts not only has to deal with the real world demons and apostles he has to deal with his inner demons to meaning his capacity for evil and the temptation to give in not only to give in to his base nature to have sex, but to not say fuck it and go for revenge against Griffith no matter the cost. There is a reason he is nicknamed the struggler in the manga
    3. The symbolism and deep philosophy of the manga. I think Berserk has a lot of symbolism. I really truly and honestly believe that the Berserk Armour specifically is a metaphor for the state of Apotheosis or near Apotheosis. What does that mean? Apotheosis is the part in the story where the here nearly dies after which he or she comes to the realization of some greater truth. Apotheosis is the state of a person being in a state of perfection or near perfection and pushing themselves to the absolute limit. You have all seen the movies or anime where the main character comes back to beat the bad guy after taking a losing to them. Since Guts literately can't die in the Berserk Armour he is in the state of Apotheosis or near Apotheosis constantly. The Dragon slayer is a bit easier I think it represents the heavy burden Guts has to carry.
As for philosophy even though in canonablity is questionable the idea of evil comes straight out of Nietzsche and Jung same for how not only Griffith acts but how he describes what an Ideal friend is. Berserk is definitely a conflict of morals and ideas. Between Griffith who thinks the ends justify the means who would exchange duty for power versus Guts who cares about how he protects people and chooses to forsake power for duty, the battle of free will versus determinism/causality not to mention Guts in a great embodiment of virtue ethics and that why Berserk is a master piece.

Unexpectedly for me back then, in my late 20s (as life unfolds more of its complexity), life began throwing curved balls at me. I began to fuck up no matter how good my planning was, and I also felt my weakest spots being constantly tested. Even when you are at the end of your rope you HAVE to push through. You have to learn from your short comings, if not, you will live a stunted life. But take heed struggler, you were born from a corpse and began your life from death in the mud! You are closer to death than anyone. Thus you excel in escaping it! Struggle, contend, wriggle! That alone is the sword of one who confronts death! Never forget this!."

This is the reason i LOVE Berserk. my personal interpetation is obviously slightly different but still a great video. Guts IS a great role model for teens. i read Berserk for the first time when i was 16 and it helped get a new perspective in life.
Berserks lessons tells me how and why not to be a fucking loser.
Something i feel like you missed is that Guts uses his selfhatred and hatred in general to fuel his life instead of taking away from it.
It is his strong emotions that makes him capable in life.

    • @noahkaa1846
      @noahkaa1846 Před 4 lety +3

@Manek Iridius Really? Thats surprising. Not that your interpetation is not valid.
Guts has the entiere world against him, and he still convinces himself to keep moving. he is at such a low that he can only use his hatred to move forward (a really personal point for me, i used self hatred to get myself out of depression initially and it has saved my life)
he comes from nothing and builds his life up.
The last chapter sbefore the eclipse where he reflects on his life and realises that he has close friends that cherish him almost make me cry everytime when i read them.
He was at an all time low and used his will to fix his life.
i don't know, i just really relate to that and def don't feel like it has a "don't bother" vibe.
again not to take away from your interpetation. i know how annoying it can be when someone thinks their version of the story is the absolute right one

I think your video exactly the way I see Bersek. I binged on this when I was super depressed but no matter how sad Berserk is, it always lifts me up. Like I know I had it bad, but not as bad the Guts and the crew. I always loved how they’d make it through all those calamities and misfortunes. They were always an inch away from death but they gang up and fight. It be like that sometimes but there’s still some good here and there.

@mondays are shit bullshit One Piece is easily the deepest and most creative Shonen battle manga that was ever created. The Wano Arc is great so far whole cake island was excellent, no other manga could maintain its peak after such a long narrative One Piece is still at its peak it is one of a kind and deserves its rank amongst the very best. Its like saying Attack on Titan is just popular these manga wouldnt be such worldwide hits if they didnt offer something to manga as a whole

I really love Berserk mainly due to how realistic it feels. It’s all fantasy but the characters are like real people and behave as such. They make mistakes and act stupid. They do good for others but get tired. I don’t think I’ve come across much media where characters truly feel this real and thought out. The story is all about facing tragedy but learning to fight that experience head on and find peace in your life despite it.

I’m caught caught up with berserk and it’s so good man. My favorite piece of fiction. I loved it so much I read it all in a month. I’m really young, I won’t say my age but you could consider me a child still. It sounds cringe but I think I’m mature for my age. I understand the complex themes of berserk and it changed my life. It helped me when I was at a low point. It feels like I shouldn’t be apart of the discussion because I’m young but media like berserk, red dead, and breaking bad has actually shaped me as a person. They taught me valuable things, especially red dead. Red dead changed my way of thinking. These stories allowed me to stop seeing the world in simple black and white and have let me form my own complex opinions on extensionalism as well as morals. I’m not saying show these things to your children but it’s helped me and many people grow AS people. This is why we should consume media, things like film are so important to us as people. If your child is ready, let them watch the original blade, or Shawshank redemption, or breaking bad. These things truly help us function as a society and for that I wanted to appreciate them past just the great writing. I was just rambling but this is something I want myself to remember as I grow up so read my comment or not I don’t really care, just consider what I said.

You have just released one of my favorite videos I have ever seen. The script for this would read like a holy tome for fans of Berserk. You remind me of a young Movies with Mikey and I can't stop recommending you watch his John Wick videos, then compare your tone and speech rate. Because that is my only criticism in this entire video, and I hope you take it with the support I intentionally put in it. Just slow down. Every point you set out to prove was executed masterfully, but if you slowed down to emphasize your points they'd deliver a lot heavier. There were two or three times you delivered a powerful point only to leap into the nest sentence before anyone could recover from the truth bombshell you just dropped.
I rarely ever comment anymore but this is the first video of yours I've ever watched and it completely pulled me away from my work to watch it twice

@@BOOFIRE191 You'll find the balance, but I really think if you watched Filmjoy's Mikey you'd find that sweet spot because you both talk with a kind of quiet but firm emphasis. If that makes sense. Please don't focus on that one thing, it was just a suggestion to help. This video is honestly a 10/10.
