How to take the tint off house windows with Inspire DIY Kent Thomas

  • I try 2 different methods to remove old window tint and show you the results here
    with a few important tips throughout, I hope this helps with your project.

    A window scraper with razor blade amzn.to/3miIKYw

    A non ammonia window cleaner amzn.to/2WdE1wB
    Some paper towels too, I recommend using a drop sheet too.

    thanks for the great video, have 4 windows on my screen porch that have the film on them and was wondering how to take the film off. will give this a try. thanks.

    Ta comrade. A good straight forward vid & from Oz. Ours is baked on. Was going to try turps or isopropyl alcohol for the residual glue? Worth it? Quicker?

    Great video. Would it be beneficial to spray the tint with a solution and let it soak overnight? I'm about to remove tint on 20 windows and want it to go as fast as possible. Thanks!

    + floor steamer will do
    - Karcher SC3
    + plastic razor blade
    > start with a corner edge
    > two layers of film, if you can just remove the tinting later, much easier and just glides off. This will leave the base/security layer which is see through. From my experience about 80% of the time you get lucky and just the outer layer comes off only with no further steaming necessary. If both layers come away then keep steaming and pull the sheet once you have enough to have a good hold of the film

      I removed tint today with 5 inch SS Blades, and moisture. I was thinking there must be a better way. Your description was almost exactly what i was imagining, should be the way of doing it. Im looking into that Karcher now. What industry are you in?

    You will be use break oil on this glue then apply soap water it will be remove easy

    Does the scraper that you used scratch the glass? My windows have tint that will not come off at all!

    Goo Gone won’t work on making the adhesive/glue come off easier?

    paint thinner will eat that adhesive very quickly. Be careful to not soak it to much, you dont want the paint thinner running down into the rubber seals or paint around the window. however very effective.

    i have tinted film baked on the outside of the window. my floor is high up in the 14th floor. is there any good way to take off the film from the outside of the window?

    I placed a film on my window and after a couple of days I noticed along the top and bottom edges it started to shrink a bit.

    What is "detergent"? That's laundry soap in America. Window cleaner like Windex?

      Huh, that's interesting! I also tried it on adhesive residue (not window tint glue though) and didn't work for me either 🤷‍♂️. I wonder if anyone has had success..
