At the same time I was trying to clean up the door. With Griot's interior cleaner. I used it on the glue that remain on the window, That stuff worked like a charm it certainly ain't no dollar but it worked great for taking the glue right off

    Posted Dec-2022; Daughter bought a 2017 VW Golf with rear hatch tint that had bubbles. She wanted it removed. It's cold here - so no trash bag trick. Tried heat gun and film came off -but not adhesive. Only did a little corner. Saw this post and went to H0me D3p0t and bought LA's Totally Awesome for $3.00. Back home and tried steamer and same thing - just film - adhesive on window. Sprayed on the LA's cleaner and used plastic pad and after a few times all adhesive gone.

    Nice. this was the 3rd video I found for removing bubbled tint, and the FIRST one that actually went over the steaming and starting to pull the film!

Now i can get my Awesome for a dollar and my Joy Non-Ultra for a dollar. I wonder how good Awesome is as a general cleaner for back glass (or all glass) in general, like when it's a new install without removal, if it's loosening up that adhesive it must loosen up dirty glass pretty good. I've gotten away from using slip solution to clean. Good vid man

  • @markdavich5829
    @markdavich5829 Před 3 lety +6

    Thanks for this vid. I called three different tint guys here in Arizona and none of them used a steamer to remove the old baked on tint. One of them told me my defroster grid would have to be scraped and it would never work again.
    I bought a tiny hand-held steamer for 25 bucks - modified it and gave it a hose. It took me a little careful trial and error but I finally got the hang of getting the tint to come off in one piece instead of getting a piece of the backing and having to go back for the dark layer and adhesive. I was able to carefully pull the tint off the entire back window leaving almost nothing except a few traces of adhesive around portions of the defroster grid.
    The thing that pisses me off is that I consider myself an idiot, more or less, and if 'I' could get the hang of it and manage to remove 10 year old baked-in-the-Arizona-sun tint and adhesive off the glass and grid, why were these "experienced" tint guys asking me to pay them to destroy my defroster grid?
    Now... I'm gun-shy and I'm seriously considering buying the tint myself and learning how to install it simply because I don't trust anyone.
    -Looking for a good tint guy in Arizona around the Phoenix area- Better hurry. LOL

      The reason they say that, and would do it that way is time, and quite a bit of ignorance and or not looking to improve their process. Steaming and cleaning like this takes more time than just ripping it off, throwing some Windex on there and using a scraper. Time is money and if you are looking for the cheapest solution, that's the kind of results you will typically get.

    Um so I'm 44 and as far back as I can remember I've been using this around the house growing up. Then fast forward to know as a tinter. Working here and there and seeing what other places use and always wanted to say something but never did I just did it there way. NOW I'm working by myself at a dealership and I do used cars a lot and this was my first GO TO and it works great. Best stuff I've ever used to remove glue. and I get it in the gallon jug at the .99 store. Places like dollar general and dollar tree have it too but the actual .99 here has the gallon for 3.99 can you believe I buy 3 at a time. Also the atr you have I wonder if its the AWESOMES green awesome stuff they have it's a clearer and not as bad smelling but smells the same they have a few other products.
    And I peel film, spray it on walk away come back a few minutes later and spray again and most times I just use slip so get it wet again and boom the glue is pretty much GONE. like its not there/ wipes right off. OR i use a plastic scraper and scrape ti off. but sadly this make the glue more snotty.. LMAO..
    Also be warned it will choke you out or at least it does me sometimes.

    How rough is the scrub pad? I just removed my 10yr old tint so the adhesive is basically a thin layer, but I really don’t wanna mess the heating element…

    I've been using Awesome for years and it's fantastic. It's also great for removing pinstripe glue, but you have to wash it pretty quickly because it will stain paint.

    Is there any reason why my tint place charges more to remove a cars back window tint just because it's from 2010 and below year model car? I smell BS but maybe there's an actual reason?

    You could look at the Material Safety Data Sheet of each product to see what chemicals they contain.
