FOR USE ON GLASS WINDOWS ONLY (inside surface) DO NOT apply to plastic or plexiglass windows
Instructions for applying the window tint to windows 1. Application Area
Please choose a dust free area away from wind and out of direct sunlight.
2. Pre-clean glass
*Thoroughly clean the outside and inside of the window that you will be applying the window film to with a soapy water solution. Be sure to wipe away dirt and grime from the surface. Note: Do not use a household cleaner or ammonia based cleaner to clean the window prior to installing the window film.
*Use a lint free cloth to completely dry the surface prior to applying the film.
3. Trim window film to fit surface
*Unroll the window film and identify the backing liner and tint sides. Note: The backing liner side of the film is slick and the film side is sticky.
*Place the liner side on the glass that you wish to apply the film to. You may lightly wet the surface to hold the film in place while trimming.
Note: Be careful not to apply too much pressure as to cut the property behind the film.
4. Remove Backing Liner
*Carefully remove the backing liner from the window film while still in place on the outside window. Tip: Use 2 pieces of adhesive on opposite sides of the film in a corner and peel apart. Spray the inner sticky side of the film lightly with the spray solution. Wet your fingers also to prevent leaving fingerprints when handling the film. *Now that the adhesive side of the film is exposed, handle carefully to avoid creasing and crimping.
5. Applying the window film
*Spray the inside surface of the window thoroughly with soapy solution.
*Carefully remove the film from the outside window surface and place the wet sticky side against the wet inside window surface. *Fold up the excess window film at the bottom of the window so it will not pick up and dirt or grime and trim.

I watched this to learn how to do my own home window tint myself, but I also learned that baby shampoo can keep snorkeling goggles from fogging up 😱🤯
Haha, a bonus tip you didn’t know that you needed😂 good on you Roxette. Kent
What other shampoo product can you use?
Hey CA B, great question mate, because we are using it as a surfactant- any shampoo could be used, baby shampoo is recommended because its is relatively clear, neutral pH, and doesn’t negatively impact the adhesives in the film like a detergent may. Best of luck🤙 Kent

Very helpful video- gonna give it a try. In America !
Hey ‘not applicable’, best of luck mate, let me know how you get on🤙 Kent
When I installed mine a few years ago, I didn’t even realize that there was a removable film so I ended up putting it on with the tint side facing the window and the removable film facing towards the inside of the room. It still stayed on there and sealed properly, and when I wanted to remove it, it came off with no issues. I’m sure that it was not intended to be installed this way, but it seems like film still worked just fine. Just another idea on getting tinting that is easier to remove since you mentioned that in your video.
Anyway, thanks for the great videos! I’m going to install some more soon so I wanted to brush up on how to do it when I came across your videos. Great content!
Hey Jak, thanks for the lovely msg mate, great to have you on board, let us know how you get on with the bedroom you are tinting👍 cheers, Kent
Thanks mate.
You’re most welcome HK🤙 Kent
awesome

Thank you!
You're welcome mate.. Kent
Great video. Almost every other video talks about doing the reverse roll method which seems a bit daunting for a beginner. I like your method of sticking the film to another window and completely removing the liner before placing the film onto the target window. Seems a lot more forgiving. Don’t think I’ll attempt it without some help though! Cheers.
Good on you Jack, thanks for the comment and all the best with your tinting project, it’s definitely easier with help👌 Kent
fabulous video and tips and tricks Kent as I will be doing this myself to save money did you purchase your tint from Bunnings or somewhere else
Hey Vanessa, I’m guessing you are in Oz used off your question (Bunnings) If so try these guys, this is what I used in this video www.polyfilm.com.au/home-and-office-window-tinting its mirror tint, minimal light lost, and good privacy and UV protection for carpets etc… or elsewhere in the world this is the same product amzn.to/3m7OJ1O best of luck, Kent
Hi Kent. Thanks for the shout out! So glad it actually works - I must have seen it somewhere (obviously!)...would you believe I still haven't tried to do it myself, it's on 'the list'
Well it worked well Maree, thanks for the comment 👍Kent
I'm about to do my windows after being reassured by Kent's first vid and your hint has just made the workflow SO much easier.
Wow. This video is literally the prime example of Constructive Criticism lol
Good stuff!
Yeah it is mate, I love it! Good tips from trades and DIYers and we all learn something 👍 Kent
Thanks
I was ready to give up on installation. Couldn't wrap my mind around reaching underneath to remove the coating. The 'backwards' tip - GENIUS!!! Using that tip, the film went up easily. I am encouraged to take on a couple more windows. Thank you!!!
That’s awesome mpringle 👌 good on you - and thanks for the lovely comment. Kent

@@InspireDIY I would not cope at all ☺️
You're welcome Kent 💜 love your videos! ✨
Top video Kent, just wondering if you have any trouble with birds flying into the windows? I’ve been looking at ultraviolet window decals that are supposed to prevent window collisions, but I’m not sure if they work behind the mirror film, or if they only work behind the regular tint..
Hey Tamara, I only know from my limited experience, prior to tinting we had one collision, and since the mirror tint went on we’ve had one in a couple of years.. so, not sure if that means anything 💁🏻♂️ good luck mate, Kent
I can relate to your snorkeling comment
I absolutly love the Austrailian accent. #2 for me to the English Accent. Tops are English, Austrailian, Scottish/Irish.
Hey Tim, I don’t have an accent🤷♂️ I think everyone else does 😉 where in the world are you? Kent

Which is better to stop heat, frosted or sparkle frosted?
Staring at the sliding doors I need to do... any tips for the larger 'glass' please?
Need to get the inside house temp much lower than 39 deg this year!
Hey Carmen, sorry for the late reply, How did you get on? Kent
thanks for the tips, how much heat you reduce
Hey mate, that's a great question, stay tuned to this channel as I have a video coming up with a measured temperature difference showing before and after. czcams.com/channels/YgHdCyiwS9Oy6Lp2r74POQ.html

Is this a permanent film? thank you for the instructions
Hey Tina, yeah this particular film I used is a permanent one, if you want to check out a temporary / removable type, have a look at his vid.. czcams.com/video/sUwbOa0K9vA/video.html Cheers, Kent
Any thoughts on rolling the tint onto a cardboard tube (maybe a little more narrow than the window) and unrolling the film as I spray the window and separate the tint backing?
Hey Puntabachata.. you sound like a genius! I would love for you to try this idea out and let us know how it goes🤔 good on you mate. Kent
why not put film on the outside? does it make a difference. my skylights need film and to put film on the inside would be much more difficult. Great video I am new subscriber
Can you put this on vinyl windows?
What is the brand of window tint you used?
Hey Lucyliu, if you go to the ‘description’ section of this video you will see links to everything used in these videos👍 best of luck. Kent
May I ask which type of film, static cling or static non-adhesive, you used?
Hey Sam, Reflective window film for daytime privacy amzn.to/3m7OJ1O in silver🤙 all the best
Hi I want to know if this is effective to keep warmth as well?
Hey Hoagnes, great question.. I don’t know enough about window film and its heat transfer to answer, my guess would be minimal extra as it’s only a thin layer of polyethylene. A noticeable difference locking heat from the sun though 👌 let us know what you find out. Cheers, Kent
Is it better to put the blade in between the card and water lining? Or the card in between the blade and water lining like in the video?
Hey kinggabriel, definitely have the card between the blade and the gasket (rubber seal) I learnt the hard way and cut too many slices off my rubbers😬. All the best mate. Kent
what size roll did you purchase or did you measure first and the purchased to size
hey, yeah I measured the width, and then the total length of all windows and ordered roll/s to suit
@@InspireDIY thank you
what kind of spray bottle is that? Looks a lot nicer than a normal spray bottle
Hey Kenneth, I scored this beauty from the hardware store.. I was tired of cheap ones that stopped spraying or working properly and leaking just to be thrown away and needing replacement. A few extra bucks and it’s still going 👌 cheers, Kent
Issue with cc along base is that some older windows have a rubber seal. So be careful on scoring those.
Hey Daver, yeah I have learnt that the hard way too👍 great suggestion. Thanks, Kent
I really struggled with the edges of the glass. Even though there wasn’t any parts pushing against the edges. Somehow the water just wouldn’t leave the edges.
Hey Kornstar, how did you get on 1 week later.. is it sitting nice and flat now? Kent
@@InspireDIYhey man which tint exactly did you use in this video?
Es agua o algun pegamento especial el de tu aspersor
Do this tints give you and privacy at night when the lights are turn on?
Hey Douglas, no they don’t mate.. I haven’t seen any on the market that do, but if you came up with some that did you’d be a rich man🤙 Kent
Do you measure to the exact size of the window glass ??
Hey Casey, measure the space between verticals timber window sills (this would be glass plus aluminium/timber window frame), hope that makes sense. Kent
Whats the ratio mix for the baby shampoo & water please.
20ml of baby shampoo : 1 ltr of water. (A big tablespoon : 4 cups)
Best of luck mate👍 Kent
Hi I attempted one widow and I've got lots of little bubbles despite 20 mins of pushing them out. Any ideas?
Hey shaynemook, has a squid at this👌 czcams.com/video/qCZzH6y2dlE/video.htmlsi=4yIxrDG_46Rd3cSf

Why do we avoid the ammonia-based sprays?
Hey JPJP, Great question, apparently the caustic nature of ammonia breaks down the adhesive used in window films. Cheers, Kent
@@InspireDIY Ahh. Thank you.
is that the charcoal or black coloured tint many thanks
Hey again, it's neither actually Vanessa, it's the '15% VLT Silver Mirror Reflective Glass Window Film' from 'Polyfilm' www.polyfilm.com.au/home-and-office-window-tinting its handy that you get to see how it looks after install hey (videoclip @ 7:30) Kent

can i use normal window squeegee for installation??
Hey hilmoonr, yeah you can, because I’m a bit clumsy I got one without any sharp edges or metal trim. It’s actually more firm than the typical window ones which I’ve found helps with application too. Best of luck mate.
@@InspireDIY Thank you, I'll give it a try
Im just renting a place and its really hot and i want to install a tint like this one. Does this kind of tint easy to remove once my rent is over?
Hey SkidRenz, I would buy a non-adhesive or static cling type of film, they look just the same when installed but can peel off really easily when you don't want it anymore. see this vid czcams.com/video/sUwbOa0K9vA/video.html cheers, Kent
@@InspireDIY thanks kent! Cheers!
Why we are having trouble with buckling when trimming the film
Hey Karen, make sure you always have a sharp blade, and when trimming film to window size after install, don’t start your cut at the edge, rather work from the centre 👍 best of luck, Kent
@@InspireDIY Thank you for the tips.
@@InspireDIY Thank you for responding with your helpful tips
I had a wierdo son (who doesn't even live here) park outside my house while visiting his mother and stare me out, not just glancing, full prolonged wierdo stare out, several times through my kitchen window (about 12 feet away) that has one of those vertical slat blinds. Normally I don't have a problem with anyone else staring only getting the odd wierdo. I've realised my kitchen window is a wierdo detector lol. My sink, kettle etc is beside the window so I think some people think I am staring out at them when I'm just boiling the kettle or such. Thing is I like the light coming in and like to see out just to see the day, not stare at people, so am thinking reflective film but then they will all start looking at it and even though I know they won't see into my kitchen. I think it will be very strange but I may just have to go for it as this last worst wierdo was kind of the final straw and now I just don't feel comfortable in my kitchen as before. He was so bad I reported him and his vehicle reg to the police and I ended up having a bust up with his mother who I think is behind it and now we all hate each other. I'm sure there are many such stories which can get quite serious. I think I will go for the sort of two way mirror film. Think I have to now.
Geez geeeezzzz, that's horrible. if you are unsure whether you want a permanent style of film on that glass, you could always install a 'Static-cling' mirror tint (which is non adhesive and removable) like this one which is popular... KESPEN One Way Daytime Privacy Static Cling amzn.to/43O46PD obviously this link takes you to amazon which also shows you other options - you just need to measure your windows and order the right size. All the best mate, Kent
@@InspireDIY Hi. Thanks. After reading my initial rant I should probably clarify it is thankfully not my son, nor have I ever been related to his mother who lives 2 houses up (to close lol). Anyhow I think I found the solution. I was put off reflective film because I usually need the light and sun warmth in my kitchen in this cold UK climate so I have ordered some of the static film type that has white opaque stipes and clear stripes inbetween. So with that I should still get the light and heat that I want and also retain a little night privacy compared to the reflective film & I still have the full slat blind if needed but I think when I have the film up I will be able to completely open or maybe even remove that blind. I also don't need to film cover the top highest window section as the wierdos can't see over that so I should have even more nice light coming in than I do now. I should maybe be strangely thankful to the wierdo in forcing me to discover this great window invention that I was previously totally unware was available and an option but I will certainly be considering it from now on.
Good stuff mate.. and yeah, after I read your prior message the second time I realised he’s not related but instead in the neighbourhood 👌 Kent
Great video, and thanks for sharing, will be doing my storm door this week. Hope it turns out as nice as your windows.
Thanks Cheri, that’s very kind ..best of luck with your door tinting👍 Kent
Does baby shampoo work on snorkeling masks????
Hey Aisha, yeah it does for some reason… stops it from fogging up and gentle if any gets in your eyes👌 cheers, Kent
Can this be applied from outside as well or will it have the opposite affect if applied from outside?
The reason I ask is that I have mosquito/fly net installed on the inside of the window.
Heat and alcohol spray for easy removal
🤔I’ll have to try it, cheers Justin 👍Kent
I install the film , the part I don’t understand is why at night you can’t see the outside from inside is supposed to block the view from the outside , the daytime is fine , it blocks the view from the outside to inside , and I install the film just like the video, anybody can help me with this issues ?
Hey mate, unfortunately there is no film on the market that you can see out of during the day but blocks the view into the house when it’s dark out and lights are on. Kent
Can another type of soap be used instead of baby shampoo. I don't want to have to buy it and never use it again (I have no babies). I have tons of other shampoos, though.
Hey Sherry, yeah.. go for it! Just pick the gentlest one - least ‘detergent’ like, no dyes and perfumes👌 all the best. Kent
@@InspireDIY You're the sweetest! You from Downunder? L0ove your "accent"
Haha, thank you 🙂
I watched another video prior to this one and he was sticking the film to outside of the window 😮🤔
Oh dear Lorna, I hope he wasn’t charging a customer for that install🤭 cheers, Kent
One step you forgot to warn people! DO NOT INSTALL if direct sunlight is on the window or you WILL screw up!
Hey Mike, if that’s a problem you’ve come across that’s a great tip! I haven’t had any misfortune with that.. but there’s a first for everything I guess 🤔 Cheers mate, Kent
Why exactly is that? Just curious, as I am planning to do my master bedroom soon.
I'm lost. I thought the idea was to put the film in the window to block / reject the heat from coming in?
Why not use it in direct sun?
Yeah I’m not sure either Eddie🤷♂️
@@Eddie-ud4bb I believe this person meant that you shouldn't install the film while the sun is shining directly on the window. Try to do it early in the day or when it's cloudy so the glass won't be hot from the sun. I'm about to embark on this project myself on 10 panes of glass with a southern exposure, and my plan is to get an early start and do as many as I can before it gets too hot. This project may take a few days to complete... :)
What? That's unlike the internet to give you their 2 cents worth.
Haha, good call Lagger, these comments did supply me with a better technique of tint installation though so that's a win! cheers, Kent
This is the third video on window tinting that I’ve watched and still they have not shown what the tent looks like from the outside does it block people from seeing in and see other comments like this like I don’t understand like there’s a guy that tinted the window on his door and then he just ended the video it didn’t show what it looks like from the outside like honestly
Hey Brooke, you sound frustrated mate..? at the end of the video @ 7:28 it shows a before and after glimpse of the windows from the outside. sorry if you missed it - the video is really about 'how to' rather than 'what it could look like' so that is what I have focussed on here. I hope you find what you are looking for, best of luck. Kent
Way too complicated for me
