  • If you are looking for a little help when it come to removing old window tint from your house windows then check this video out..
In this video I experiment a little - let's call it science. If you have ever removed window tint film before you'd know that it's labour intensive and takes time.
I was trialing a method using ammonia to dissolve the adhesive that holds the window film on, a first time for me! and maybe the last... the results are debatable.

If you are looking for a low cost window scraper, try one like this amzn.to/3zJP8uY it comes with 10 spare blades. (I used 4 blades to scrape the windows in this video)
    Protective Gear:
3M has quality respirators at good prices and this gear will last for years amzn.to/3CJDVjl or eBay ebay.us/pufY0J just make sure you have filters that are suited to ammonia such as the '3M Respirator Cartridge 6006' amzn.to/3pZsah3 or ebay.us/PvKhuB
(Ammonia is an inorganic compound so make sure your mask rated accordingly, a dusk/particulate filter is not good enough).
I bought a ‘half face’ mask from my local hardware store that is compatible with 3M filters - (1 Pair) 60923 Respirator Cartridge/Filter, Helps Protect Against Organic Vapours, Acid Gases, Chemical and Particulates amzn.to/3MeAB3y
Latex Gloves (available at your supermarket or) amzn.to/3EXW3V9 or eBay ebay.us/PiyDTD
    Ventless Goggles for chemicals/smoke amzn.to/3RrOziE

Thanks for this video, very useful. About to try it on about 30 windows 😔. Have you got any advice on the amonia mix please? Ratios or something. Thanks.

Hey Philip, the ammonia that I purchased was from a supermarket (not commercial strength) so it was already diluted at '20g/ltr Ammonia', and also contained some soapy additive 'cloudy', So I used it neat (undiluted) in the spray bottle. It's pungent! Especially when airborne so make sure you look after yourself with the right PPE. Regards, Kent

G'day from across the ditch. I'm about to embark on removing the tint on our veranda concertina doors...there's roughly 15 square m's of tint, so a fair bit to come off. So, what do you recommend? Ammonia looked like much more work than using a heat gun? I have a wife who is seriously allergic to ammonia fumes, so even if she would have to move out for a couple of days (which wouldn't be a bad thing...lol...only joking). Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Hey Beazle, yeah the ammonia is definitely rough on the lungs if not wearing the right mask and filters. So far I’ve done the heat method, and the ammonia method. Next windows I’m going to use my 90mm razor blade scraper to do the lot and see if overall it’s a better option. I think heat and scraping is the way to go👌Let me know how you get on. Kent

After you pull the tint off spray more ammonia on the adhesive and it will easily scrape off!

Well, where were you with that suggestion when I was removing all these tints 😂, that’s gold - I’ll try it👍 thanks, Kent

I will stick my nose in and say to remove the tint left behind. Get a heat gun and warm it it up which might make it peal easier (less scraping)
