- Disney claims its dumping $60 billion into its theme parks to compete with Universal... but it seems like its mostly overseas parks, and not Disney World and Disneyland. As the opening of Epic Universe gets closer, they're ramping up the PR so people know that SOMEDAY their prince will come...

They lost their magic when they went woke and fired John Lasseter
What did John Lasseter even do? I’ve heard what happened, but I’ve never bothered learning the extent, and if it was at all resolved after the termination.

@@Ebonheart2319 Iger saw him as a competitor and wanted him out, and booted him with the thinnest of excuses.
Where are they even going to get that money? With all of the failures Disney has had over the years, I doubt they have that much money anymore.
Do you have a savings and retirement fund? I advice to to closely keep an eye on it. I have a feeling 1929 and 2008 will be repeating very soon.
The last time I checked the company was still profitable. Remember that with a company like this the original entrepreneurs and early executives build a machine that earns money, and then suit-wearing bureaucratic executives coast off of the momentum their predecessors built. A lot of big companies are like this.
DEI money until it dries up?
Mostly the Blackrock and CCP money
The parks will rake in most of that money and disney will simply draw less profits from it for the next few years. Its very smart because they wont need much if any extra capital to achieve their goals.
Disney will have a rude awakening when Epic Universe opens.
word on the street is they are working on another new park as well. to be announced After EU opens. they don't want to take away from the hype of this new park.
Compete with Universal?😂😂 Universal has Harry Potter.👑
And they are making a how to train your dragon park and that will also make bank.
And Super Mario
And it has How to Train Your Dragon. I can promise you little kids today would rather see Hiccup and Astrid before they see Mickey and Minnie.
And they is the potential universal great Britain which seems to be going well so Disneyland Paris may loose it's monopoly on Europe even though current European parks do some fantastic thing like Voltron that has just opened at Europa Park
"B-but... Disney has Wish..."-IDK a Disney investor.
Central Floridian here. Worked at Disney for a few years, got in for free. I think I went twice and it wasn’t worth it to go in for free. Feel bad for people that save up money for years. Spoiler: it’s not worth it, it’s expensive and all you do is wait in lines. Disney Springs on slow days is worth going to.
Edit: And it’s so hot in Florida. If you’ve never been, you probably can’t imagine.
All I see from Disney is a lot of flailing, and trying to make magic on spreadsheets. I see a company with no idea of what creativity is, except when it comes to accounting and publicity spin.
You hit the nail right on the head, and it’s an absolute shame how far disney has fallen.
Why would kids want to go to Disney World over Mario World, Harry Potter Experience and Universal?
Disney is seen as the out of touch company surviving on its legacy rather then its future.
Not even surviving. Iger wants to tear down Walt's legacy to replace it with DEI, namely Frontierland.
Universal is opening its epic universe with New Harry Potter lands, how to train your dragon, dark universe, Mario world, and its celestial land thing is coming soon.
How to train your dragon is what sells it for me.
Which legacy? They spend over a decade destroying said legacy.
(I agree with everything else you said, though.)
But we have Smellephants.

@yourenotmarywelcome8693 hey, they could loan them a lantern and we see what happens...
All that money and the same terrible management. In other words, nothing will change.
Everything is talk until the cheques are cut and the shovels hit the ground.
Exactly currently Igor & Co need a win so they can talk down the investors from replacing them next year, but really this is just a stopgap measure to look like they're doing something to be more profitable when in reality this isn't really going to help astronaut doing s*** for the American parks the rides haven't been properly maintenance in years the parks are unsanitary they also keep raising the price to the point the average American family can't even afford to go to Disney world or Disneyland it's almost to the point is going to price out upper middle class families as well
So sayeth the Space Pope!
What a waste. You could fund a war with that.
Yes, where have you been. They ARE funding an ideological one for years now and we are neck deep in its results.
My parents had an old vinyl album by the psychedelic rock band Steppenwolf, when you opened the cover the inside had a gatefold picture of all of these charging soldiers, only their heads had been replaced with angry Mickey Mouse heads;it was quite a revelation to my young psyche. 😂
Incidentally, there is a war that needs funding right now...
@@Attmay Who would that be?
They previously reported 60 Billion over ten years amongst all of their parks around the world. That amounts to less than 1 Billion per park per annum. That doesn’t even cover their routine maintenance costs which are increasingly getting more expensive and breakdowns more frequent. This is all smoke and mirrors folks, Blue Sky or B.S. for short.

Does Disney even have 60,000,000,000?
And on what IP do they want to waste this money. They have nothing of value any longer. Their real problems go even deeper than money now.
Too little too late. Thing is snowballing out-of-control. Everyone was warning them years ago what was coming and to get their house in order.
One, where is Disney going to get the money? & most of this is going to go aboard- not Disneyland & Disney World- both which need repairs badly? I know Universal's smiling at this too- which also has theme parks aboard too- some located not far from the Disney theme parks too!
I wish Universal would come to Australia.
58 billion of that will be spent on all the different gendered restrooms. The rest will be spent on research about how to squeeze even more cash from what few customers they have left.
Don't forget the litter trays. If they're oversized they'll need to be custom made.
No 58 billion gets embezzled into executive pockets the rest goes to a crappy theme park.
Had Disneyland annual passes for years. It isn't worth it anymore. Going to Universal Studios this year for my daughter's birthday in June and really looking forward to it.
Really speaks to Disney's pockets that they have been consistently losing money for years, and their answer is "We aren't losing it fast enough"
Have they been losing money ?

@@tafadzwamanzini5463movies had. reportedly Disney hasn’t made back the 5 billion they spent for Star Wars as the movie production costs are insane and the movie viewership collapsed. The parks make bank however, if the park attendance goes down Disney can’t afford to fund movies/tv shows that lose hundreds of millions dollars. Essentially plans for future projects collapses due to loss of expected income. Essentially Kennedy’s Star Wars plans announcing 30 projects and only a handful see the light of day.
1. You cant 'just have' 60 Billion dollars forever if everything else keeps failing.
2. If your best ideas are only funding more Smellephants and Animal Kingdom Pretty Much Drag Shows disguised as 'Life Festivals' that look like an out of place Circe de solei show. It's a Bad Investment and its fruitless to spend it if THAT is the Best you can come up with.
I want to see a U-Haul moving Cinderella out of her castle in the Magic Kingdom and another truck moving Princess Peach in.
If the shareholders complain, they have no one to blame but who's reflection is in the mirror. They voted for this glorified book shuffling. So they'd better get used to low returns going forward.
I don't know where this sixty-billion is supposed to come from, but it sure as shootin' won't come from the average customer when they can get a real bang for their buck at Universal.
Wonder how many smelephants $60 billion can buy? Answer: One. The rest is all spent on DEI and ESG.
Isn't this the same billions they been discussing about for the past year or two? How many more announcements of "we are going to do this" before people start saying "haven't you started yet?"
Pretty sure it is, which is confusing as to why it's worth covering in a full video.
You can have your own country with that much money.
Idk,I think that Zachylvania would be pretty chill. 😂
They effectively did, for decades (Florida bylaws didn't apply in Reedy Creek, Disney policies did). Iger managed to screw that up too.
like 15 Liberias
Either they are desperate or got some kind of inside knowledge. I'm leaning 99.9999% into desperate. Because this seems so stupid.
Simple question: What IP do they still have, that is worth even spending one dollar on for the theme parks? This will be just a massive waste of money. They have nothing worth mentioning now.
If only they dumped that 70 bil from fox into it.... oh well
Disney has lost our families money some years ago. We used to vacation there almost every year since the late 80s. We finally got tired of the price hikes and continued lowering of quality of the experience and customer service. Tried universal for our big family vacation one year and we had such a great experience we just kept going back. Universal’s customer service has been much more similar to the Disney of old than the new Disney. Unfortunately I do not see Disney doing anything to earn our business back. But if it wasn’t for Disney’s quality going down we would have never went back to universal!! So I guess every dark cloud has a silver lining.
A reservation system was used at most theme parks during the pandemic to control the size of crowds. That article is FoS
Waiwaitwait. I thought Igor said mean old DeSantis took away all the money Disney had for Florida
Yeah and there was a report about Disney losing 1 trillion dollars when they lost against the Florida government.
Of course, we all know the real reason, they keep producing flops left and right. Anything that happens to them will pretty much be their fault.
The original Imagineer, Walt Disney himself, didn't go around doing surveys of what Disneyland should have, he TOLD America what they were going to like and want. And he was 100% correct with Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland and made Disneyland an overnight success. Disney needs to stop going to the IP well and start getting creative again. Epic Universe is full of IP, but the entire center piece of the park and a major coaster are all original concepts.
Where does Disney keep finding money?
Blackrock and Vanguard. When huge hedge funds stop investing billions in wokifying Fortune 500 corporations, there's going to be a lot of sad companies who suddenly regret alienating their customers.

I’ll be honest I went to Universal Studios last year as well as Disneyland and Universal takes the cake by far Disney was honestly dirty for crying kids and a horrible wait times
Hilarious…they can’t compete. Can’t wait to see Disney close it’s parks forever
I expect that won't happen in our lifetimes. Short of nuclear war. But would like to think there constant failing is going to lead to a lot restructuring, or a hostile takeover. One day.
I find this comment about as ignorant as the people who deny anything as wrong at the company. I know things go away sometimes, but we're still talking about Disney here.
How? From what I can tell about their finances, they don't have 60 billion. I'd be surprised if they could scrape together 16.
If Bob Iger didn't spend 70 million on his stupid propaganda effort to thwart Peltz , Disney could have more staff at the parks. Yeah, the investors will be stupid to trust Bob Iger would do his best for Disney since Bob Iger care about nothing except himself! The investors are clown for trusting Iger!🤡
Where's the money coming from ? Disney is losing Billions in everything else. The parks can't keep supporting all these other failures. I am wondering how long till Disney has to declare bankruptcy and start selling their other IP's at massive loses.
Blackrock? $10T doesn't look that big anymore if Disney is burning money at that rate.
@@c0d3warrior Yeah but investors by and large don't give two shits about the woke thing. They do care if Billions are being lost and nothing is being done to stop the train wreck. At some point all the big capital investors that keep Disney afloat will run away.
@@c0d3warrior Blackrock is not going to just hand them piles of cash. They'd have to get a loan from a bank, and even the DEI crowd is going to hesitate to give failures like Disney that much money. At a certain point, they will decide Disney is of no more use to them and cut them off.
@@c0d3warrior I'm sure China is also funding a lot for Disney to be in Hong Kong, same with Tesla becoming big. It'll backfire in a few years when they confiscate the park or the US Government tells them to pullout though.
A part of me wants them to last until 2028 for Mickey’s 100th birthday. Once that comes and goes, I no longer give a damn what happens to them.
Nah.. I will stick with my local attractions
Too bad it ain't gonna work out well!
Let's all go visit Epic Universe.
I have to say, the weeks leading up to the big Proxy Battle has been the best theme ride I've seen from Disney in a LONG TIME!! 🤣
Let Disney waste money like they did for Indiana Jones 5.
They shall fail...
Why does it take Disney ten years to implement when Universal does it in a couple of years. I think it too late for them.
Disney has made a laughingstock out of themselves and their IPs. Meanwhile, Universal has managed to keep themselves in the good graces of their audience and treated their IPs with care. Once again proving that it isn't about quantity, it's about quality and good old fashion respect for your audience.
They'll probably use this to justify jacking their prices even more.
Disney Does NOT stand a Chance!!!!
Biggest difference I’ve observed myself between Disney and Universal (from someone who lived in LA until 2020-and now is closer to Orlando parks)- is that Disney may act like they want your opinion as a guest and walk around with the iPads, but they really don’t care what guests think. It’s all about the bottom line with them. They won’t make changes to make the guests experience better. In fact, things are getting worse and worse every day.
Universal on the other hand… when you give your honest opinion, they actually put all that in the iPad, and they actually freaking LISTEN to guests, and change what needs to be changed. I’ve participated first hand from giving my opinion, and then experiencing the change for the better the next time I go back.
I forecast billions spent on longer switchbacks in the wait lines, new gender neutral bathrooms, one new ride to cost 5billion and take seven years to construct, retheming the Seven Dwarfs Minetrain to be “Seven gender neutral Magical Creatures and the Stalker”, and probably six more Dumbo rides.
Do they even have money for that?????
I'd love it if Blackrock and Vanguard just went broke one day...
When Disney actually does a good job, I will believe it. Epic Universe is coming and Disney isn't ready.
My one criticism of Epic Universe is they need ten thousand themed hotel rooms (Harry Poter, Mario Bros, How to train a dragon). The hotels sustain Disney. Compete.
Slightly disagree. I get what you are saying, but themed hotel rooms cost more for the customer and even marked up hotels cost less when adjacent to the parks. Epic Universe could see more consistent attendance if they don't have a bunch of expensive rooms for rent. A middle point might be to have their own hotels with competitive rates and the ability to have a level of theming involved.
Build a New Motel AFTER The 'We Dont have enough Rooms year round' Problem emerges. That's a Good Problem to have before you make the Solution to it.
@@FluffehStuff274 I agree with different tiers. I used to dog sit the VP of Disney Hotels pet. After a few discussions, I am convinced Disney thrives because of the hotels.
After taking my kids to Great Wolf Lodge and Legoland, a well themed hotel makes the experience that much better. My kids wanted to go back not because of the parks, but the fun of the hotels, in particular Legoland's Castle hotel.
My opinion is Disney needs to up their game too. Their hotels are for the Grandparents. I told Disney's VP of hotels this to his face. Politely, with good wine.
Spend 60 billion where the money does not come back to the US. Sounds like embezzlement
It has to be. And if it isn’t then someone will embezzle somewhere and cut corners. There’s no avoiding it.
Universal is better than Disney
I prefer Universal over Disney
Okay, seriously, that Fairly Oddparents episode with the anti sea monster crew shoveling piles of money into a furnace to try to prove they're not a waste of money has become the best analogy for Disney.
Where are they getting the money? They don’t have any, having lost billions on bad movies and failed projects like the Star Wars hotel. They also have 46 BILLION in debt as of September. They are in poor economic shape. I guess they can’t afford not to.
Digging around in the couch cushions of Black Rock and Vanguard, probably State Street too,to a lesser extent.
Don't believe it for a minute, under current regime of baffoons.😢
If it were up to me, regarding the parks (whichever Disney, Universal, other) my top priority would be to come up with a truly functional virtual queue to work with smart phones at no additional cost to the guest. Where guests would check in for a ride or event, then when their turn comes up, they have x amount of time to arrive at the location and have ten minutes or less of actually waiting in line.
Not only would this greatly increase guest enjoyment, but you could then reallocate all of the real estate previous taken up by the queue area for other attractions, booths, vendors, etc.
They can dump the money all they want but I think the newer generation care very little about Disney IP comparing to Nintendo or Harry Potter. Also Disney keep rolling out questionable contents have keep lot of parents from introduce Disney to their kids.
This is like that scene in Shrek the Third where the frog king is on his unlife bed. You think he's done but he just keeps going
$ 60 billion towards the parks, when's that taking effect?... 2050 maybe?
3:00 what stories, Josh? The SW sequels and Galactic Starcruiser? Wish? All the live action shit?
Bob Iger (singing to the tune of "A Whole New World" from "Aladdin"):
"We'll expand Disney World
Shiny, shallow and silly
Tell us, cash cows, now why do
You keep saying that we lied?
"Let us empty your purse
Squeeze you upcharge by upcharge
Make the lines even longer
Waiting for our broken rides
"A whole new world
A new fantastic fee to pay
No Ron to tell us 'No!'
Or where to go
Or sue us for corruption
"A whole new world
A gilded lemon just for you
To pay us lots more dough, for the same show
Just with a ton more 'woke' thrown in for you!"
To lose money, first you have to spend money.
~ Bob Iger, probably.
Disney were going to build lots of new stuff!
Florida you got planning permission for that? No? Good luck getting it
14:00 reminds me of the free "theme park" I made during quarantine. All I needed was to arrange some fans around my rowing machine and pulled up ride through videos on my TV. The only thing missing was some of those Magic Candles that Offhand Disney is always shilling for the olfactory experience and some churros.
I don't have much faith in Disney's ability to innovate at this point.
Does Disney plan on selling Star Wars and Marvel comics to get said money?
Imagineering is now Imagining. They don't DO anything; they just have ideas.
Years ago I joined the Disney movie club for my kids. I got my free DVDs and have been trying to cancel the membership every since yet I've been repeatedly ignored. Well, I received a letter last week that stated Disney would be closing my account because the Disney movie club is shutting down for good. All I could think was 'finally, no more sending those stupid refuse cards back to them'. I also took it as another sign that Disney must be really hurting and cutting corners wherever possible.
They don't even HAVE that kind of money.
Here comes more price increases to pay for nothing coming here
Now that’s funny Geeky Sparkles
Where is Disney going to get the billions they've already lost.
Hollywood is scared as Comcast can make money on Netflix and Amazon just as much as them. 😂😮😢
I was a loyal Disney fanatic fan. Now I want this company to go bankrupt.
It's amazing what stiff competition will do to large companies
“Why make $1 billion, when you can make $1 million?” -Dr.Evil, AKA: Bob Iger
So far Disney has given bland, sub par, malfunctioning, closed down(star wars hotel) and smelly updates to the parks, so I can only imagine what other lackluster and uninspired things Disney plans for them. I'm sure that whatever budget they have planned, we will only see a fraction of it while the rest goes into their failing streaming service.
Nothing magical about how $$$$ everything is at Disney parks. No thank you , universal is customer friendly
They still haven't figured out what the problem is. People won't go to Disney theme parks if they don't have the THEMES people want.
Let them spend Clownfish, let them spend....
I'm pretty sure that is meant to say they'll be *charging* people $60B to get into the parks so they can compete with other parks. 😅
Disney’s so far behind the curve that’s it’s done a full 180, come back around & slapped them in their woke faces, like; 💩 DUMP MONEY INTO THE PARKS NOW!!!
A park line simulator is a fantastic idea for an indie game. You wouldn’t even have to call it “Disney.” Easy to avoid copyright issues.
They were already slow at doing anything in the US parks even while they literally controlled Anaheim city council and the RCID. If they even have the money, how do they expect to compete in the amount of time that matters?
I live a 15 minute drive from Enchanted Forest in Oregon. I like to support local business so I will stick with my old friend.
It might not be as fancy, is a much smaller park, and not always open because Oregon can get pretty wet for a good part of the year, but it has all the classic fairy tale favourites, a haunted house, Wild West town, European village, Ice Mountain bobsled roller coaster, Timber log water ride, and more.
You can do everything in one day, quick and easy. There are some lines but I never experienced anything close to what I hear about Disney.
Plus it is family owned and created. The guy who built it had four kids and not many places in the area to take them for fun so he bought some cement and set about making one himself. Been adding to it a little at a time since 1971.
Disney's problem ISN'T money. It's time. Look how long it took them to clone the Tron ride compared how long it's taken Universal to build Epic Universe. Disney used to be the masters of stuff like this. They got way too comfortable and have lost their way.
So they're going to borrow $60 billion... excellent. This'll kill Disney for good.
Where all this money comming from?
The problem isn't where the money's coming from, but what are they going to spend it on? At this point they've pretty much bled their available talent pool dry, so while it might be possible to make repairs on things that badly need it actually running a park well or creating new attractions are no longer things that money can practically be spent to make happen.
Do they even have 60B left to do that?
Its not 60 billion. Theyre not counting the current operating expenses. Its not taking into account inflation and other expenses. Theyre planning on investing more but the parks have been neglected for the last few decades while disney focused on other business ventures. Disney is making up for the past neglect of parks and rightly so because the parks are the only guaranteed income they have. They havent broken even on star wars yet. Their movies have been much less successful than expected and disney + isnt even expected to break even for years. High interest rates are hitting their property businesses as well.
Disney won’t do anything they just say crap
I'd rather have successful IP, its visual aesthetics, recognizable characters, and epic soundtracks than generic stuff. Pandora and Galaxy's Edge are fun to escape to in a way that Americana and Western genre themes aren't.
A bigger park can translate into longer hotel stays too
People can't even afford current-day Disney and you seriously try to spin that people could stay _longer?_ Newsflash: Ain't nobody got money for that.
Disney in this case you got to spend the money to win the money.
After closing and laying off thousands last year in their parks bcoz they were nowhere near making money? Weird but okay 👍
I went to Hollywood studios the other day. It was my day off and I just wanted to walk around…… I left after an hour. There was nothing to do!!!! Mickey and Minnie’s mind train wasn’t even open until after 1130! I walked around and nothing! I was actually thinking I would be so pissed if I paid full price to just come to a theme park just to walk around and do nothing! Disney is dead …..
Since Geeky mentioned great Disney finds. I recently found a Haunted Mansion sweatshirt from the parks with the tags on it at Goodwill. My size too. I don’t wear it much because Disney depresses and frustrates me. But I hope things will turn around eventually if not it was $5.
My mom also found this Mickey statue a few years ago. Disneyland wanted $100 for it and the cast member was shocked when I said my mom found it at a thrift store for $8.
My other nice Disney find was from an antique store in Vegas. Can’t remember how much but I remember it was cheaper than I thought (so probably under $10) but it’s this beautiful Disneyland Castle trinket box that has Tinker Bell inside. I wish Disney made more stuff like this today.
The new Disney store for all the unsold Galactic Starcruiser merch, "Ollie's Adjacent ". 0~o
I agree with other people can they even afford it at this point? They still have to pay a few more billion for the hulu deal.
